Xinjiang Academy, one of the four ancient academies in Jiangxi, is located on Huangjin Mountain on the south bank of Xinjiang River in Shangrao City. It was founded in the 33rd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1694) in the Qing Dynasty and was formerly known as Qujiang Academy. After expansion in the 51st year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, it was renamed Zhongling Lecture Hall. In the 8th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1743), a building was built on the back mountain to worship Zhu Xi, and it was renamed Ziyang Academy. In the 46th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, it was named Xinjiang Academy. There are more than ten ancient buildings with quaint flavor, such as Zhongling Terrace, Chunfeng Pavilion, Yitaxuan, Xixiu Pavilion, Rixin Book House, and Yiletang. They are carved with beams and painted with rafters, and their shapes are simple. They are hidden among the dense green trees and are particularly elegant and unique. On the former site of Yiletang in the northeast of the academy, the "Shangrao Special District Revolutionary Martyrs Monument" and the "Huang Dao Martyrs' Tomb" were built after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
