If Southern Italy is all about sunshine and lemons, then the beauty of Sicily is a collision of ancient civilization and natural wonders!
The Scala dei Turchi (Turkish Steps) located in Agrigento is one of the best examples, with its pure white cliff steps and the emerald Mediterranean Sea – truly a masterpiece of nature!
📍Location: On the coast of Realmonte, near Agrigento, Southern Sicily, Italy.
🎫Tickets:
Previously, it was by advance reservation and online ticket purchase, as many guides on Xiaohongshu described. However, when we went this time, online ticket purchase had been canceled. Now, tickets are purchased on-site, starting after 10 AM, 5 euros/person, card payment only.
🚗How to get there:
Self-driving is recommended. First, navigate to "Parking Scala dei Turchi," which is the closest parking lot to the attraction. Parking fee is 6 euros for up to 3 hours.
🏔️How to explore:
1️⃣Get up close:
After parking, exit, cross the road, and walk down the stairs nearby until you reach the beach. Alternatively, you can navigate to "Ristorante Lido Scala dei Turchi"; the entrance stairs are next to this restaurant. Once on the beach, turn right and walk to the end, and you'll see a small tent (Figure 9). That's the entrance to the steps, and there's a police officer collecting fees.
2️⃣Panoramic viewpoint:
It's located along the road above the entrance to the Scala dei Turchi beach. You can navigate to "Belvedere Scala dei Turchi." From this spot, you can overlook the entire white cliff and the sea, perfect for capturing panoramic shots.
⏰Best time to visit:
It's recommended to go in the afternoon because the light is favorable then, allowing you to capture the pristine white texture of the cliffs. If you go in the morning, the cliffs will be backlit, and the photos might appear dim.
🔔Tips:
1️⃣The visiting policy for Scala dei Turchi changes quickly; sometimes it's free, sometimes there's a fee, sometimes online tickets, sometimes on-site purchase. Therefore, it's best to reconfirm the latest information before your trip.
2️⃣The surface of the steps looks quite smooth, but it actually has some friction. Many netizens "recommend wearing non-slip athletic shoes and absolutely no high heels or flip-flops." While that's not wrong, if you want to take beautiful photos, athletic shoes don't really match a dress. So, I was the disobedient one who wore flip-flops, and it was perfectly fine; many foreigners also wear flip-flops! So, there's no absolute rule; it depends on your personal ability and preference!
3️⃣There are several seaside restaurants nearby, so you don't need to worry about food, drinks, or restrooms!
