Villa Athena Resort

Villa Athena Resort

📍 Via Passeggiata Archeologica, 33, Agrigento
★★★★★ 9.7 (49 reviews)

"This is really a 5 star experience! They have many on-site dining options - all with a lovely view of the Concordia temple. All food was fabulous and featured local, seasonal ingredients. The resort also has a private entrance to the Valle dei Templi park which allows guests to beat the crowds and enjoy a peaceful walk through pristine nature to reach the temples. I hope to return in the future!"

"During our first trip to Sicily I had the pleasure of staying at international luxury hotel chains such as the Four Seasons and Belmond so I was looking to try an Italian brand instead for our recent visit. Although I was recommended Rocca Forte hotels, I chose Adler after hearing great things from a local Italian friend who'd been a few times (Adler has beautiful properties in the Dolomites and Tuscany which I've visited before). Not only did the hotel look beautiful but it was extremely well priced and I liked the fact it was off the beaten path in the more rustic Agrigento area. The property itself is relatively new having opened pre-Covid. The rooms are super modern, chic and spacious, and the grounds were simply stunning with expansive 360 degree views of the ocean. The sunsets in my opinion rival those in Santorini anyday! I loved the entire set up - from the pool, wellness area and gym to the private beach club which is a 7-8 minute walk away (its easy to go down but a moderate climb on the way back so you can opt for the electric shuttle if you are feeling lazy). On some says the ocean was a little rough swimming but the beach feels very private as it is located in a nature reserve making it all the more special. The hotel has also erected a deck with loungers plus a snack area with fresh sandwiches and even gelato. There are also fridges stocked with complimentary sparkling and boxed still water which was a nice touch. Best part of it all, was that it was well staffed with a super attentive team. The rate included breakfast as well as dinner which I would usually be apprehensive about as I am a fussy eater and not a fan of buffets. The quality here however was top notch with so much variety on offer, including a comprehensive list of a la carte dishes (you could choose as many as you like and the portions were just right - not too small not too big!). I usually like to try local restaurants but the food was so good that we ate all of our meals at the hotel for the entire stay (even those not included in the package were extremely reasonable priced which is a rarity in Sicily). Above all the staff were just incredible. Every call or request was handled super efficiently - in fact there were times where certain staff members such as Stefano and Emanuele in the restaurant or Luca in reception - would anticipate our needs before we even asked. The tour recommendations were also great and reasonably priced. Our private tour guide at the valley of temples previously worked there as an excavator so had incredible insights which we loved (he was also efficient and fast which we appreciated!) We barely left the hotel and it was so worth it! Thank you to the entire team for an incredible stay."

"This is a very quiet and unique hotel. All 25 rooms have private swimming pools. The warm and thoughtful service plus the unique natural scenery of Sicily are worth staying for a few days. The restaurant charges a lot but the atmosphere is great! If I go to Sicily, I will stay there for a few more days!"

Colleverde Park Hotel

📍 Via dei Templi snc, Via Portulano, 1, Agrigento
★★★★ 8.1 (114 reviews)

"The hotel staff were polite, but they didn’t actually help solve any real problems. It felt very much like they treated guests differently depending on who they were. The hotel itself is old, small and smelly, and absolutely not worth 347 Euro per night. I would recommend avoiding this hotel."

B&B Palazzo del Teatro

B&B Palazzo del Teatro

📍 Vicolo Teatro, 4, Agrigento

"The moment we entered the hotel we knew we were in for a treat, reception was friendly and whilst the lady didn’t speak good English we were able to understand and received good information on the surrounding area. Room was exquisite. Breakfast was very good and the cozy atmosphere made a good start to the day."

"Fabulous location, with direct access to the Valley of the Temples. Stunning views over the Temple of Concordia, which was especially beautiful at night when illuminated. Lovely, spacious and well-appointed rooms, warm and attentive service. Wish we had stayed an extra night so we could have had more time to relax by the pool and get a spa treatment!"

"This is one of the nicest luxury resorts from a physical, architectural and landscaping point of view. The rooms and the grounds are stunning as are the pools, relaxation areas, gym and restaurants. The service is also top notch. BUT, as great as everything is - and it pains me to say this - the FOOD is mediocre at best. The food is a huge disconnect for a great resort. The food ranged from ok to inedible. Unripe kiwis, soggy cashews, completely under-cooked steak, inedible fish dishes. You are not eating in Sicily here- you are eating at a U.S. country club that needs to reorganize its food department! We stayed at 3 places in Sicily - this was the nicest facility with - by far - the worst food. Hopefully, they can bring it close to the level of the rest of the experience which is world class."

"The hotel was very nice, the pool was great, and the location was also excellent. The only thing we didn't like was the breakfast. Unfortunately, there wasn't much choice. Otherwise, we were very satisfied."

Hotel Foresteria Baglio Della Luna ★★★★
"NOOOOOO! Not a good experience at all!! After reading 100’s of positive reviews we booked this property for a few nights while needing a place to while visiting the Temples and Scala de Turchi. We are a well traveled couple and have stayed at many different accommodations from quaint and charming B & B’a to luxurious 5 * properties.I This (hoping for charming)was NOT what we were expecting at all:/ the entrance coming up the street is in a very beat up unkept area and the front of the building non existent. Just “ugly”. When we entered there were staff in formal attire which led us to “believe” this would be more of a “service” oriented property as opposed to one with the amenities you would expect paying £158/night. Then came the room…OMG….from the second the door opened we were blasted with the smell of mold! So bad that even with the doors and windows open it wouldn’t go away, this is not just a little mold but dangerous BLACK MOLD that made us both quite sick. The breakfast was nothing special! Zero hot food and basic stale pastries and old fruit! Bed felt like cement, pillows were a joke, furnishings dated, grounds although pretty with very nice distant views were really nothing that specia !! Where are these positive reviews coming from???!! I am annoyed with both Trip Advisor as well as *********** for not verifying these reviews and steering us in the wrong direction!!! After this experience i don’t think we will ever trust” these websites again!! We headed on our journey to the next stop with a hotel rated far lower and paid £84 per night for an incredible experience!! It saved our bad “trip” and lifted our mood!! Please dont go by the reviews of this property or be prepared to be gravely disappointed:/ im sorry but i had to post this to help or stop the next person!! Couldn’t wait to leave that is how bad it was:("

"- take a taxi! If coming from train or bus stations, its all uphill with no sidewalks and uneven ground. Brutal if hot out - room was spacious with high, vaulted ceiling and a small balconette into the square - weird layout of bed in middle of room and no side table for glasses easily accessible - breakfast spread was varied - yogurt, boiled eggs, meat and cheese, and lots of different cakes - bar across the street is very loud until 2am - no lift or English if that matters to you"

"It is a nice place to stay if you visit Agrigento. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Be careful if you have heavy luggage cause you will hand carry it upstairs."
