The Ultimate Guide to Wuning Fishing Village in Jiujiang: A Perfect Getaway for Food and Fun — traveler post in Wuning

The Ultimate Guide to Wuning Fishing Village in Jiujiang: A Perfect Getaway for Food and Fun

Last week, my friends and I took a road trip to Wuning Fishing Village. As soon as we arrived, I was instantly charmed by this slow-paced village right next to Lushan West Sea✨. It’s free from the noise of over-commercialization, filled only with the scent of lake breezes and fresh fish—perfect for anyone looking to escape the city and relax. Wuning Fishing Village is located on the southern shore of Lushan West Sea. It was originally a settlement for generations of local fishermen. After recent renovations, it has retained its authentic fishing village charm while adding plenty of recreational and dining facilities, so you can experience genuine fishing life without worrying about convenience🚗. The village stretches along the lakeshore, with grey-tiled, white-walled houses arranged in a scattered layout. Fishing nets drying at doorways and hanging fishing lanterns preserve the original atmosphere. Walking along the paths, you’ll often run into local fishermen carrying freshly caught fish and shrimp—it’s such a lively, authentic scene. I’ve put together a few must-do activities that I personally tested and loved: ① Boat tour on a small wooden boat⛵: You can find local fishermen with hand-rowed boats. It costs about 100 yuan for 4 people. The boatman will take you around the nearby lake bays where you can see plenty of water birds. If you're lucky, you might even catch the fishermen pulling in their nets. You can even try catching some fresh silver fish yourself! The lake breeze is so refreshing—it's much more interesting than taking a big cruise ship. ② Stroll through the fishing village market: Located in the small square at the village entrance, stalls open after 2:00 PM. Local residents sell homemade dried fish, silver fish sauce, and sun-dried lotus seeds at very reasonable prices. I bought 2 jars of silver fish sauce to take home for noodles—it's delicious! Also, don't miss the freshly fried small fish cakes; they're 5 yuan each, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. ③ Fishing Culture Exhibition Hall⭐: A small, free-to-enter venue displaying old fishing nets, model fishing boats used by veteran fishermen, and the history of Wuning Fishing Village. It takes about 10–15 minutes to walk through and is a great way to learn about old fishing customs. ④ Sunset viewing platform: Located at the far east end of the village, it’s completely unobstructed. In the evening, the lake surface is painted orange-red by the sunset, and the distant islands appear and disappear in the haze. It’s incredibly photogenic, so remember to go half an hour early to grab a spot. For a niche experience, I recommend trying to go net fishing with the local fishermen. Just book it in advance with your guesthouse owner. It costs 80 yuan per person to go out on a boat with a fisherman for half a day. You can learn how to cast a net and haul in the catch. You can even have a restaurant cook the fish you caught—the taste is truly different when you've caught it yourself😋. 📍Address: Just navigate to "Wuning Fishing Village, Jiujiang City." It’s a 1.5-hour drive from Nanchang or 1 hour from downtown Jiujiang. There is a free parking lot at the village entrance, which is very convenient. For food, I recommend the "Fisherman's Joy" restaurant at the village entrance. Their signature big white fish is caught and cooked fresh—the meat is incredibly tender with no muddy taste. Also, the steamed eggs with silver fish and the fish head with tofu and ginseng soup are local specialties. You can have a very satisfying meal for about 60 yuan per person. For accommodation, there are many guesthouses along the river in the village. You can see the lake as soon as you open the window. In the off-season, you can stay in a lake-view room for just over 100 yuan per person, which is great value. ⚠️Small tips: It’s windy by the lake, so I suggest bringing a light jacket. Do not go swimming in the lake on your own. When buying local specialties, feel free to bargain a bit. Don't buy the ones with overly fancy packaging at the scenic area entrance; it’s more cost-effective to find the small stalls set up by local grandmas. Take 2 days on the weekend to come here, enjoy the lake breeze, and eat some fresh fish. You'll feel completely relaxed. It’s a hidden gem I’ve visited recently and definitely want to go back to~

West Sea: 8,000 Islands Hide a Mountain and Sea Wonderland Rivaling the Maldives — traveler post in Wuning

West Sea: 8,000 Islands Hide a Mountain and Sea Wonderland Rivaling the Maldives

Who says you have to go far to see the "sea"? In Jiujiang, Jiangxi, I found a seriously underrated mountain and water secret spot—Lushan West Sea. It’s not actually a sea, but it boasts scenery even more dreamy than the ocean: over 8,000 islands scattered like stars on the clear water, stretching as far as the eye can see. Glass observation towers, waterside boardwalks, coconut groves and beaches… so many ways to play, I regret not coming sooner! This 2-day, 1-night essential guide will take you through this "Jiangxi Thousand Island Lake." 🏝️ Highlights: More Than Just a Lake, a “Mountain and Sea Marvel” Lushan West Sea is actually Asia’s largest earthen dam reservoir. But it feels far beyond just a lake: · Thousand Islands Sparkle: More than 8,000 islands of various sizes, looking like green gems set on blue velvet from the air. · A Landscape Painting: Classic “lake and mountain scenery,” with the liveliness of water and the elegance of mountains—every snapshot looks like an ink painting. · Diverse Experiences: Combines natural sightseeing (climb towers to see the sea), family-friendly pet interactions, cultural heritage, and night light shows, meeting the needs of the whole family. 🗺️ Essential Itinerary (2-Day, 1-Night Immersive Version) Day 1: Island Hopping, Strolling the “Fairy Mountain and Sea Islands” · Morning: Arrive at Mengshengshan Pier and start your lake journey by boat. Shortly after setting off, you’ll see the iconic “Tree in the Vast Sea,” a lone, steadfast tree standing amid endless blue waves, full of poetic meaning. · Island visits (in order of boat route): 1. Yunju Island: Highly recommended! Upon landing, you’ll find a coconut grove and white sandy beach, instantly feeling like you’ve traveled to a tropical island—super photogenic! The Yunju Tower and West Sea Pavilion on the island are traditional Chinese architecture, perfect for climbing and enjoying the view. 2. Goddess Island: Themed around love culture, with beautiful scenery, ideal for a leisurely walk. 3. Ruoxi Island: A must for families! The island has many cute animals (alpacas, parrots, monkeys, etc.) you can interact with and feed—kids will have a blast. 4. Jinlong Bridge: A long, winding waterside boardwalk connecting two islands. Walking on it feels like stepping into a painting, especially stunning from aerial shots. 5. West Sea Star: The core landmark! Climb the 99-meter-high glass observation tower with a fully transparent glass floor—thrilling and breathtaking. From here, you get a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire West Sea and can spot a natural heart-shaped island in the distance. · Evening: Return by boat to Mengshengshan Pier. · Night: Explore Zhelin Old Town by night. When the lights come on, the ancient-style buildings instantly transport you back to the Tang Dynasty. The streets are lively with various snacks, performances, and intangible cultural heritage displays—great for photos too. Day 2: Nearby Exploration or Leisurely Return · Option A (Leisure): Sleep in, enjoy the tranquil lake view at your hotel or guesthouse, and return at your own pace. · Option B (Explorer): If you want more, visit the Sunshine 29 Resort or West Sea Hot Springs nearby for a relaxing afternoon. 📌 Super Practical Tips (Avoid Pitfalls) 1. Weather is key: Be sure to visit on a sunny day! The lake water is bright blue or emerald green under the sun, but looks dull gray on cloudy days, greatly affecting your experience. 2. Transportation and Boat Schedule: · Driving is most convenient; just navigate to “Lushan West Sea Mengshengshan Pier.” · Boats: The main way to connect islands is by ferry. Boats usually run once an hour; arrive early in the morning to avoid waiting. Check the pier’s daily announcements for exact departure times and be sure to note the last return boat! 3. Tickets and Accommodation: · Tickets include boat fare; peak season price is about 150 RMB per person (for reference only, please check official updates). · Accommodation options: ① Resort hotels inside the scenic area with lake views from your window; ② Guesthouses near Zhelin Old Town, convenient for night visits; ③ Hotels in Jiujiang city, offering good value. 4. Clothing and Gear: · Wear comfortable sneakers! You’ll be climbing stairs and walking between islands, so expect a good amount of exercise. · Prepare for sun protection! Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. · Bring some snacks and water; there are shops on the islands but with limited choices. 5. Photo Tips: · Shoot in the morning with front light for bluer water. · Use a wide-angle lens for big scenes, and a telephoto lens to compress space and capture the layered islands effect. · When shooting on the glass tower, watch out for reflections; get close to the glass for better shots. The beauty of Lushan West Sea lies in its vastness and tranquility coexisting. Standing atop the tower, watching clouds rise from the mountains and islands spread beneath your feet, you truly feel like you’re in a “fairy mountain on the sea.” This guide has mapped it all out for you—pick a sunny weekend and set off to discover Jiangxi’s “Blue Tears”! Jiangxi's Hidden "Thousand Island Lake"! Winter Boat Tours, Stay in Fairy Tale Treehouses and Overwater Bungalows

When Lushan is covered in ice and snow in winter, the Lushan West Sea at the foot of the mountain reveals a different kind of vibrant beauty. On the vast misty lake surface, thousands of islands are scattered like emerald jewels. We sail among them by boat and stay in treehouses built on the islands, spending a winter that is both secluded from the world and full of wild charm. 🚢 The Right Way to Enjoy West Sea Boat Tours Route Selection: The main routes connect several key islands. It is recommended to choose routes that include the "Fishing Village Islands," "Sangtian Island," and "Canghai Island," among other highlights. The journey itself is like admiring a moving landscape painting. Island Exploration: Each island has a different theme. Fishing Village Islands: Experience traditional fishing village culture and giant net fishing performances. Sangtian Island: Focused on farming culture, perfect for children to learn about crops. West Sea Star: Climb the tall glass observation tower for a 360-degree panoramic view of the stunning Thousand Island Lake—this is the iconic viewpoint of West Sea. Best Time: Winter has fewer tourists, often allowing you to "charter" an entire boat. Choose a sunny afternoon departure for soft light and a mirror-like lake surface. 🏡 Unique Island Accommodation Experience This is the part you must not miss when visiting Lushan West Sea! Several hotels are located on independent islands, requiring a boat ride to reach, offering excellent privacy. Lushan West Sea Siwuxie Homestay: Located on a private island, with only a few overwater bungalows and treehouses. Designed entirely of glass, it feels like floating on the lake, with zero distance to the mountains and water. Reservations must be made well in advance. Lushan West Sea Resort: Located on the main island, offering various room types including charming forest treehouse clusters. Well-equipped with hot springs, swimming pools, and rich family activities. Zhelin Lake Hotel: A long-established hotel conveniently located near the dock, offering great value and serving as a good base for sightseeing. 🎣 Winter Water Leisure Activities Lakeside Fishing: Enjoy quiet fishing time in designated areas. Cycling/Hiking Around the Lake: Beautiful green trails have been built around West Sea. Rent a bike or take a walk to enjoy the lake and mountain scenery—very relaxing. Hot Spring Therapy: Choose a hotel with hot springs and soak in the warm water on cold winter days while gazing at the lake—an ultimate pleasure. 🗓️ Two-Day One-Night Lakeside Living Proposal Day 1: Arrive at the scenic area dock in the morning, take a boat tour of the core islands, and in the afternoon climb the "West Sea Star" observation tower. In the evening, check into a unique island hotel and enjoy a fresh lake seafood dinner at the hotel restaurant. Day 2: Enjoy a leisurely morning at the hotel, participate in hotel-organized activities (such as crafts or cycling), or relax on the room balcony or public areas reading, daydreaming, or watching the lake. Depart by boat in the afternoon. 🐟 Taste Memories: West Sea Freshwater Seafood West Sea Organic Bighead Carp: A must-try! Raised in West Sea lake water, the fish is tender and free of muddy taste. Fish head soup or chopped chili fish head are both exquisite. Stick Fish: A small fish that never grows large, deep-fried until crispy and delicious, bones included. White Sauce Bighead Carp: A local specialty, fresh, spicy, and appetizing. 🚗 Transportation Tips: Drive and navigate to "Lushan West Sea Scenic Area" or "Zhelin Lake Scenic Area." The scenic area has large parking lots. If taking high-speed rail, get off at "Yongxiu Station" or "Dean Station," then take a taxi for about 40-60 minutes. The key is to know which dock your booked hotel uses for boarding the boat and contact the hotel in advance to confirm transportation details.

Escape the crowds! Unlock a tranquil winter adventure on the small islands of Lushan West Sea with intangible cultural heritage crafts — traveler post in Wuning

Escape the crowds! Unlock a tranquil winter adventure on the small islands of Lushan West Sea with intangible cultural heritage crafts

While most tourists shuttle between the main islands by cruise, we chose a deeper, quieter way to explore Lushan West Sea: renting a small boat to visit unnamed islets; stepping into lakeside villages to learn an ancient craft. This is the true way to immerse yourself in this landscape painting. 🏝️ Niche Experience: Customized Private “Island Hopping” Tour How to do it: Rent a small motorboat with a canopy through local fishermen or homestay owners, led by a boatman for a half-day or full-day private tour. What you can do: Land on uninhabited islets: Choose a lush green islet to dock and embark on a small “deserted island adventure,” collecting uniquely shaped stones and pine cones. Birdwatching on the water: Winter is a great season for birdwatching. West Sea is a habitat for migratory birds. Quietly approach by boat to observe cormorants, egrets, and other water birds. Don’t forget your binoculars. Find the best photography spots: Let the boatman take you to his favorite angles for shooting islands and distant mountains, often off the mainstream routes. ✂️ Lakeside Intangible Heritage: A Quiet Handicraft Class Leave the water and delve into traditional villages along the lakeshore. Find bamboo weaving artisans: The West Sea area is rich in bamboo forests, and bamboo weaving skills have been passed down to this day. Find a master craftsman and have your child learn to weave a simple bamboo basket or a small insect, feeling the flexibility and warmth of bamboo strips. Experience Doucan making: Duchang Doucan is a local intangible cultural heritage delicacy. At the workshop, you can see how soybeans go through multiple processes to become golden Doucan, and even try your hand at pulling the bean strips—very fun. 🚴 Cycle along the most beautiful water highway Lushan West Sea has a famous “water highway” (a section of Yongwu Expressway), and next to it runs a parallel scenic road around the lake. Cycling experience: Rent a bike and ride on this low-traffic, quiet road. On one side is the sparkling vast lake, on the other, green mountains, feeling like traveling through a painting. Choose a gentle section, perfect and safe for family rides. 🏠 Accommodation choices to immerse in lakeside life: To experience the above activities, it’s recommended to stay in lakeside villages rather than the core scenic islands. Lushan West Sea Yunju Hotel: Located on the hillside by the lake with wide views and modern design, a good choice connecting nature and comfort. Lakeside farmhouses cluster: In places like Jinkou Township and Nan’an by the lake, many farmhouses offer food and lodging. Staying here, you can hear the real sound of lake waves at night and see fishermen setting out in the morning. Examples include “Wanghu Tower” and “Fisherman’s Courtyard.” Hot spring town hotels: Choose hotels in the Lushan West Sea Hot Spring Resort to combine hot spring bathing with lake views. 🍂 My slow-paced three-day plan Day 1: Arrive and check into a lakeside homestay. In the afternoon, stroll and fish by the lake near the homestay, adapt to the environment, and enjoy the sunset. Day 2: Book a small boat in the morning for a private “island hopping” and birdwatching tour. In the afternoon, visit bamboo weaving artisans or the Doucan workshop. Day 3: Cycle around the lake section in the morning. In the afternoon, return home contentedly with handmade crafts and a peaceful heart. 🌿 Travel philosophy: At Lushan West Sea, the most beautiful scenery isn’t necessarily on the ticketed islands but in the corners you actively explore, in the moments you quietly listen to the wind, water, and birdsong. Teaching children this ability to “discover beauty” is more important than just checking in.

Lushan Xihai Scenic Area

Although it's a man-made scenic area created by a dam, it's absolutely worth the price. The water and sky blend seamlessly, islands are scattered like stars, and floating bridges and boats are very convenient. The weather was perfect when we went, and everything was just right.

Lushan Xihai Lake Island Ecological Tourist Area

After much hesitation, I finally chose Lushan West Sea as the last stop on my trip to Jiangxi. I had read many online reviews praising its beauty but also criticizing its management, citing issues like an inefficient itinerary and long wait times for boats. However, my visit today was a pleasant surprise. On October 3rd, it was drizzling at West Sea, and the misty, dreamlike atmosphere while strolling in the rain was simply wonderful. First, I took a boat to the Yudao Islands, but my main focus was on the Nine-Linked Islands. I continued by boat to Sangtian Island, then visited Sangtian Island, Canghai Island, Mingzhu Island, the Wooden House Town, West Sea Star, Ruoxi Island, and Goddess Island, finally returning to the Sima Visitor Center from Yunju Island Wharf. The scenery here is breathtaking, especially the panoramic view from the West Sea Star. Capturing the beauty with a drone, it evoked a feeling reminiscent of Qiandao Lake, but with a different kind of beauty. The boardwalk connecting Huaguo Mountain and Ruoxi Island resembled a giant dragon stretching across the lake, winding and magnificent. Not only does it offer beautiful scenery, but it also boasts excellent service. Staff members are stationed at every island, main road, intersection, and bridgehead, providing warm, polite, and attentive directions and assistance to tourists. In short, this trip to Lushan West Sea was well worth the visit and I would definitely go again.

Lushan Xihai International Hot Spring Resort

The water park didn't open until after 7 o'clock, so I soaked in the hot springs first. After the water park opened, I went to play and had a lot of fun. I was supposed to go to Zhelin Old Town, but I ended up playing on the slide until almost 10 o'clock.

Xihaiwan Scenic Spot

A highlight of the Xihaiwan Scenic Area is its night view. In the summer, the temperature in Linlin varies significantly, from over 20 degrees Celsius at noon to just over 10 degrees Celsius at night. After dinner, I took a leisurely stroll through the Xihaiyuan Scenic Area. Under the soft lights, a cool breeze blew, and the shadows of the trees swayed. There were vendors selling everything from jujubes, nectarines, watermelons, and grapes. While these fruits are also available in the city, the only organic products in this small county town are truly delicious.

Luxi Cave

The scenic spot is very small. I accidentally saw it on Douyin. This time I finally don't have to say that I was deceived by Douyin. The scenic spot is very good. The cave is well lit and very beautiful. The rafting on the glass slide is also very interesting, and the journey is very long and the experience is great! The service attitude of the shuttle bus driver in the scenic area is also very good, which leaves people with good memories. It was a very good trip!

Orange Isle Scenic Area

Orange Island is a bit of a mixed experience, and I'm honestly not entirely sure whether I'd consider it a must-visit in Changsha. It's a large, green, and pleasant park, with beautiful riverside views and plenty of space for walking. If you enjoy places with historical significance or simply want to experience a different side of the city, it's definitely worth considering. Most visitors seem to take the sightseeing train to the southern end of the island, where the famous Mao Zedong statue is located. That's also where you'll find plenty of people taking photos, so don't expect a particularly quiet experience. The main downside is that visiting the island takes quite a bit of time, especially if you want to explore it properly. And while it's certainly a nice place, I'm not sure the experience justifies spending several hours here if you have a limited amount of time in Changsha and other places you'd like to see.On the other hand, if you're simply looking for a relaxing walk through a green park, with opportunities to stop by the river and enjoy the scenery, it's a lovely option.Overall, I'd say it's worth visiting if you have some extra time or are particularly interested in Chinese history. Otherwise, I wouldn't necessarily put it at the very top of your Changsha itinerary.

Wangxian Valley

It's worth a visit. Although it's a small, undeveloped scenic area, the natural scenery is still beautiful and perfect for taking photos. The lights are quite lovely at night. The area is large, and going up and down the mountain requires some physical exertion.

Wuyuan Huangling Scenic Area

This is my second time visiting Huangling. Last time I came to see the rapeseed flowers in spring, and today I came to see the autumn harvest. Each has its own unique characteristics and is beautiful, but what I like most is the architecture on Huangling! The scenic area was packed with people; I didn't expect it to be so crowded even on a normal day!

Yellow Crane Tower

For first-time visitors to Wuhan, watching a performance showcasing several famous historical periods of the city while taking a break from sightseeing is a good option, offering a balance of relaxation and a more comprehensive understanding of the city.
