Location and grounds are fabulous. Looks very imposing as you drive up…. however! Room101….very tired and very noisy (next to car park/entrance/and passing inside foot traffic) Plus, can’t open blind in morning - as foot traffic right in front of window. Had to jiggery pokery to get kettle plugged in under the table. Bathroom is very tired - but least water hot from bath/shower. And again need to keep blind down when in bathroom. Restaurant is more pub grub but nice enough - although 4oz steak is not the usual pub grub size. (Rookie mistake in ordering) However starter and wife’s fish very tasty. Staff pleasant and friendly. Writing this before breakfast so can’t comment. Overall - disappointing from how it all appears. This was a one night pit stop - but wouldn’t be happy to stay for any length unless in better room.

This is a lovely hotel .. perfect location right next to the racecourse which is an absolute bonus ! First impressions are important and The Lodge staff were so welcoming, friendly , pleasant and helpful .. nice to see staff who really seem to enjoy their job. Our room was spotless and had everything we needed Bed was very comfy, nice smelling toiletries and fluffy towels . Yes the room was fairly small but no issue . Well stocked bar and pleasant atmosphere and appears to be popular with visitors and local residents alike . We also had a lovely cooked breakfast . We can’t fault The Lodge we had a great time . Thankyou we are planning to return in October .

In order to take the children to the nearby school for an interview, stayed for one night, so there is not much demand for the hotel. The facilities in the room are general, the beds are put together, not very comfortable, the health is OK, the breakfast is too poor, the overall feeling is not acceptable for the holiday! The decoration at the front desk is ok, warm and elegant!

Stayed here Friday and Saturday night for Newbury races so very convenient being 2 miles from racecourse and right in town for the evenings. We also chose the hotel for breakfast and free parking- no complaints. Breakfast ran until 10am. The room was spacious and clean although outdated but it was good enough for our stay. We had a rubbish first night sleep as we were on the Oxford road side and the car sounds feel non stop, also closing of the pubs time is very noisy. We were then woken up very early by the light, the curtains don’t even cover the windows. They need double glazing and blinds! Pretty similar second night sleep so was looking forward to coming home to my own bed which is a shame. The floor was so creaky we were woken up numerous times by other people in the building especially from upstairs. The bathroom door had to be slammed to close so that would of been heard by neighbours. Our room was not serviced on the Saturday although we placed the sign on the door and cleaners were on the level as we left. We were out from the morning for over 7 hours. This was a shame as would of liked water and tea/milk replenished and clean mugs. Check out the red lion pub for some Mexican food, it’s unreal and unexpected! 5 min walk.

We have been to this hotel before, but this time we saw a sign saying that swimming will incur £5 pp charge. I was gutted that I was not advised, as the receptionist said this new policy took place 2 weeks ago. BUT, when we went to the pool, the clerk told us that if you booked from a different provider (trip.com etc) you have a complimentary pass to the pool. If only we knew the first day. But really happy overall.

We stayed for one night. Very warm welcome from staff. Helpful and kind. We had our evening meal at the hotel. Delicious food and good value. (The special offer with evening meal and breakfast). Special mention for Amma and Sheena( front of house)and Tony the chef. In the morning a breakfast buffet. Plenty to choose from. Especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and yoghurt. Again very pleasant staff on duty. So thank you for a great stay. We hope to come again.

We were looking for a spa hotel full board. The reviews for the hotel appeared good. It is not a cheap stay so we expected the best. Generally the stay was great and the spa was very nice except you had to book your 2 hour slot. The meals we good and the service was excellent. Problem was it was only two average size plates of food and anything extra was charged for even bread at £6. I ordered a GnT it was £17 plus a service charge so was in excess of £19. A bit OTT. The room was spacious although very tired. The patio outside had two chairs and a table but the floor was covered in bird poop. The bed base cover was torn and there was no extract in the bathroom. The room definitely needed updating. On receiving our bill by email we noted we were charged over £40 service charge for our dinners. First for us. Would we return - no. The following night we stayed near our family and were in a Young's hotel adjoining there pub in Chertsey. Value for money it was exceptional. A great room with everything one would need an a breakfast with proper coffee and cocktails included all for £125 for 2. Unfortunately no 2 hour spa. Dinner for two £50+. Highly recommend.

Had a lovely lunch at Donnington Valley Hotel on 14th May. Can highly recommend the Burrata, Plum Tomato Salad, Basil, Breads sharing starter The roast beef was lovely (although my husbands was very fatty, but I think that’s just the luck of the drawer with how the meat is served) there were plenty of fresh seasonal vegetables, that came in a separate bowl and steaming hot which was great. Dessert was amazing, highly recommend the Lemon Tart and raspberry sorbet, it was delicious. Waiting staff were super attentive. Thank you very much.

After driving from the Vendee and catching the latw ferry over choppy seas we stopped at this Travelodge. Veey good value for money. It cost £29. It was clean, the staff were friendly, the bed comfortable. There was a bqth and the usual teamaking facilities. We had been travelling around France with a few stays in this type of accommodation, but this Travelodge was better. Of course it is not a 5 star hotel. That is not its purpose, but we will stay again.
