Paradise Resort

Me and a colleague booked this resort for a 1 night stay on 18th September through MMT as part of a business meeting with a client based out of Kottayam. We were traveling from Bangalore and reached the resort at 12pm as per the check in time stated in the booking confirmation, but from reception it was told that they've recently changed the check in time to 2pm however it wasn'tcommunicated to us. After talking and waiting for about half an hour they've alloted the room. Below are our specific experience at Paradise Resort, Kumarakom: 1. Food options in the menu weren't available. Said that there is a party going on for another group, so cheff is busy with that and only limited items are available for other guests. 2. We were having a beer sitting at the varantha of our cottage. Then a staff came, said that he's the GM of the resort and told us there is a police officer and group of friends staying in the resort (two cottage after ours), so we cannot have beer in our cottage's varantha. But this group of people were enjoying drinks in front of their cottage and walking around the property with liquor. So we had a little bit of argument, and our point was ”the rule within the resort should be same for all guests.” The GM wasn't ready to accept that and behaved us in an unprofessional tone. He was often saying he's the GM, also said that they've contact with politicians, police and local leaders, so if you doesn't want to stay then you should leave. It was clear threatening and an unacceptable way of communication from a person who should be treating all customers equally. 3. Finally we complained at MMT and vacated the resort 2 hours after check-in. Even when we were leaving, the way staff and GM communicated was inappropriate. 4. After vacating, we've booked Abad Whispering Palms (a nearby resort) and stayed there overnight. It was an amazing experience at Abad and from all staffs. 5. Overall, Paradise Resort management should give some sort of hospitality training to their staffs. I believe some of the reviews they've on google or other booking platforms are paid reviews. At present this resort doesn't even qualify for a 1 star rating.
The Zuri Kumarakom Kerala Resort & Spa

This place clearly is past its prime from the looks of it. Our Deluxe Lagoon view room is past its ‘best by’ date. The furniture is fraying, the mirror has big stains, the room had a stink when we checked in, the aircon works only at one setting - 19 degrees. The woodwork has been shoddily repaired, the glass door has turned yellow with grime. The maintenance and upkeep of the property evidently de***ds serious attention. Sadly, when I attempted to show some pictures of the room to the ***agement, it barely caused any concern. I was informed that the extended Covid lockdown - and the tropical climate and moist air, has taken a huge toll on the property. In other words, we really can’t do much! However, supposedly a revamp of the property is underway - doesn’t help us though. While the explanation maybe valid, the nonchalant response was galling and totally unexpected. And any way, why shouldn’t we, as paying guests, expect better? At breakfast this morning, the papaya was un-ripened, the pineapple was overripe and discoloured. And the best. - they couldn’t find decent, fresh and ripe local bananas to serve! At lunch, the Thai green curry was spicy - so spicy and none of us four could eat more than one spoon. We refused to eat it and asked them to take it back. Yet amazingly, it appeared on our bill - no apologies offered. Naturally, we refused to pay for the dish. Quite eventful first 24 hours.

The experience was ethereal. The hospitality splendid. The property is full of greenery and has many water bodies - the lagoons and the wembanad lake. The room is of good size for 3 people. The bed was sufficient to accommodate three persons. The wash area super clean and had all forest essential toiletries. The buffet breakfast had all the cuisines, the South Indian ( dosa, vada, idli, uthappam), North Indian (parathas), omelette, breads and cake, croissants, juices, tea and coffee. The taste was good. Enjoyed it. Overall a pleasant experience.

Food is very tasty. We tried almost everything from their menu in our 6 nights stay. Cuisine from south to north to continental to italian, all dishes were well prepared. Leaving from the resort, we had two fantastic nights on a KLR houseb oat with Vishnu and Pramut steering us through the Kerala backwaters, with its many bird species and interesting sights. Amir very kindly adapted his menus to provide a truly lovely experience of typical Kerala meals. (You need to let them know if you want a less Europeanised version of food). We really loved the lazy days of sightseeing. We thought we’d be lazing *****, ready books as the scenery passed, but the trip was fascinating and very engaging. We were lucky to be travelling before the full fleet of houseboats is out and about though off-season also meant a spectacular (in the nice sense) storm. Fascinating and enjoyable. The crew were great. We then had a day/night in the beautiful hotel resort itself, that last part of our nine days in Kerala. The staff managing the resorts many services are thorough and thoughtful. The staff at the infinity pool are on hand to help in sunshine and rain - an extra umbrella kept the rain off while we sunbathed in a downpour. We make special mention of Basin and Nandhara for their guidance and attentive service in the restaurant on our last night. Beautiful facilities. Wonderful room. What a way to say good bye to Kerala (for now!)
