The concierge team was amazing and booked a large van (jumbo taxi) and driver for the day. they also ensured that the van could accommodate a folding wheelchair for one group member that needed it. The van and driver arrived on time and was quite reasonably priced. Great experience that was made possible by the hotel team! Upon return to the hotel, we realized we had left some items on the van - the hotel called the taxi company and coordinated the return of our items. Beyond these experiences, the hotel itself is a bit older but rooms are comfortable and fairly spacious for a hotel room in Japan. Location is great and the breakfast buffet was one of the better ones we had on this trip. If I should ever travel back to Niigata, I will most definitely be staying here. Since it is a sunroute brand, there is a sense of security as an inn for traveling alone. However, among the many sunroutes, the facility is quite old. The key is made of old-fashioned metal and is not automatic locking. The air conditioning is also controlled as a whole and there is no room. The bathtub is also old. It is about a 5-minute walk from Mandaiguchi, Niigata Station, and there is a convenience store right in front of you. Amenity is now a type that picks up by yourself at the front desk. I think we exited to the western concourse and signs to hotel were easy enough to follow. The walkway enters level 3 of the hotel. Very conveniently, right next to a 7-Eleven. Also super convenient is the sake museum. Definitely must visit. Check-in was efficient and we were given rooms on the top floor (level 9). A rather basic room that has everything except for an in-room safe. No coffee (nor bottled water) was provided with the kettle but only tea. Not a problem as free coffee can be made in the waiting area next to the reception. Also in the reception area is where more bathroom amenities are provided. Only toothbrushes are in the room. The bath area in the room is large with a wash area and a stool like at the onsen along with a bathtub. That’s where a visit to the amenities area in reception comes in handy. Wifi was speedy enough for our needs. The convenient location was great for us as we arrived in the rain. There is plenty of choices for food and even shopping. Do explore around. We did buy day passes for the Niigata City Loop Bus (JPY500 per adult). Check-out was as efficient as check-in. While there wasn’t much of a view, the hotel was just right for us. The staff are very helpful, although only 1 lady could speak reasonable English. The rooms are very spacious, and comfortable, although the bathroom is on the old side. Those who used the onsen really loved it, although you have to pay an onsen tax, even if you don't use it. Breakfast is on the expensive side, and even little kids have to pay. However, free coffee/tea and soup are provided in the lounge area. There are lot of lockers, but only 2 washers/dryers. The dryer function is not effective, even after 60 mins of drying, so I ended up hanging the clothes in the room to dry instead.

We had a nice stay in Takinoyu Hotel. When we departed from Tokyo, it was sunny and not snowing at all. Once Shinkansen train passed the tunnel, a whole different view was revealed. We were surprised by the snow-covered landscaped in Echigoyuzawa. The hotel offered a free shuttle van. You just need to make a call using a paid phone by the station exit. Our room was spacious, tidy and cozy, with a nice view. We had a tiny living room and massage chair and coffee maker. The hotel outdoor and indoor onsens were both great. On snowy days, the hotel offered free waterproof boots to keep your feet dry if you want to have an outside walking. There was a ski slope named Ipponsugi right in front of Echigoyuzawa Station, only 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel. Ski lift and rentals were also available. We had Kaiseki dinner in our room, which was a traditional multi-course and each individual tray was served one by one. Two trainees from China were arranged to prepare dinner for us and they introduced us the technique of Kaiseki Cuisine. The hotel breakfast was Japanese set meals served in a dining room, mostly local food such as grilled fish, soybean paste soup and oriental dishes. We’d recommend this hotel if you want to experience Japanese hospitality.

Close to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, the location is almost perfect. The staff were very friendly and the service was very friendly. My stay at the Takahan Ryokan was wonderful thanks to the welcoming staff, classic room layout and view, and history of the property. I arrived at Gala Yuzawa Station a little before the official check-in time (3:00 pm) but was still picked up within five minutes after calling. The staff member on the phone spoke good English, as did the two staff members - both non-Japanese - who welcomed me at the hotel. Everyone was patient and went out of their way to help me and answer questions. One staff member led me up to my room on the fifth floor of the hotel, showing me the entrance to the baths from the hot spring presumably under the property and the room Kawabata Yasunari wrote ”Snow Country” in, both on the first floor, along the way. I was really happy with the room, which was quite large by Japanese standards and had a great view. As another reviewer noted, the amenities in the room are dated, but I thought that just added to the charm. As a fan of Kawabata Yasunari, I really enjoyed the history of the place and the chance to look out on the town from the same vantage point he described in his novel. The comfortable seating - with tea set - on the room's balcony/veranda made this especially enjoyable to do. Overall, my stay at the Takahan was one of the most memorable and enjoyable I've had. Highly recommended.

For snowboarding, use a plan with a Japanese room with a toilet without a bath for one night. After check-in, I guided me to my room with my luggage. The room is clean and no problem. The humid air cleaner that I requested was also set. The bath was very comfortable with the comfortable temperature of the inner hot water and the open air. My stay at the Takahan Ryokan was wonderful thanks to the welcoming staff, classic room layout and view, and history of the property. I arrived at Gala Yuzawa Station a little before the official check-in time (3:00 pm) but was still picked up within five minutes after calling. The staff member on the phone spoke good English, as did the two staff members - both non-Japanese - who welcomed me at the hotel. Everyone was patient and went out of their way to help me and answer questions. One staff member led me up to my room on the fifth floor of the hotel, showing me the entrance to the baths from the hot spring presumably under the property and the room Kawabata Yasunari wrote ”Snow Country” in, both on the first floor, along the way. I was really happy with the room, which was quite large by Japanese standards and had a great view. As another reviewer noted, the amenities in the room are dated, but I thought that just added to the charm. As a fan of Kawabata Yasunari, I really enjoyed the history of the place and the chance to look out on the town from the same vantage point he described in his novel. The comfortable seating - with tea set - on the room's balcony/veranda made this especially enjoyable to do. Overall, my stay at the Takahan was one of the most memorable and enjoyable I've had. Highly recommended.

For snowboarding, use a plan with a Japanese room with a toilet without a bath for one night. After check-in, I guided me to my room with my luggage. The room is clean and no problem. The humid air cleaner that I requested was also set. The bath was very comfortable with the comfortable temperature of the inner hot water and the open air. I entered four times, but three of them were rental ‼ especially in the morning. It was crowded and not troublesome once in the evening. Breakfast was served at the dining hall with Japanese meals. You can specify the time when you check in. I think there is a problem of taste, but it fits our mouth, and it is said that rice (it is said that it is Koshihikari from uonuma) is delicious, and it is a mountain from the morning, and it is replaced. When I asked if I could buy rice somewhere because the rice was delicious at check-out, I bought it because it was sold in the inn. It was cheaper than buying it at a souvenir shop. After checking out, there was no way to put a car around Yuzawa station to buy souvenirs. I would like to take care of you next season.
