Shangri-La Homestays

This is my kind of place. I stayed in the 4 bed (2 bunk beds). There are drawers and and shelves to put away your belongings in a nice sturdy bunk bed that doesn't make noise when your move. It is a typical Chinese mattress, however I found it comfortable. It also has a heated mattress pad with 3 settings. The shower is a small room that is all tiled and clean, and it's separated from the men's shower. The toilets are also separated and it's a heated toilet seat. Rulan,the innkeeper, is super friendly and arranged discounted tickets to the Songzanlin Lamasery one day and the Pudacou National park another day. When I became anxious about the bus, Rulan was supportive when I texted her. One night she served a really nice tea to me and the next she brought me heated soy milk. I expecially like that there is a small garden and a outside rooftop deck. Washing machine is available for 15CNY and can be hung on the upper deck which has a nice view!

Location is not far from major square. Room was well clean and equipped with floor heating, humidifier and oxygen generator which very recommended for high altitude so you could sleep comfortably. Owner was nice and help us with necessary information such transportation to Potatso National. Recommend

Located within ancient city and a short bus ride to Songzhanling Monastery. No lack of F&B and supermarket, pharmacy within walking distance from Inn. Clean room. Service is good and friendly. Toilet seems to have some leaking though, floor is always wet even before we shower. Water pressure of shower is relatively good. Breakfast is local noodle soup or western toast, eggs and yoghurt with fruits. Both are delicious.

Bala Gezong is indeed the secret place of Shangri-La. From the road leading to the scenic spot, you can enjoy the clear and turbulent stream. After going up the mountain, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the canyon with a drop of more than 800 meters. The hotel's room rate of 888 includes the scenic spot ticket and the car to the scenic spot. It happened to be the off-season when we went there. As soon as we arrived, the hotel housekeeper Jiangba Jiangcai arranged our two-day tour itinerary. Then Duozhu Dingzhu accompanied us for more than 3 hours to visit the Echo Wall, Bala Village and other tourist attractions included in the hotel package. On the second day, the tour guide Shan Zeng and the driver Losang Pincuo led us to visit the natural pagoda and felt the ethereal realm that was infinitely close to the blue sky. Here we express our gratitude. Of course, what impressed me more in Balagezong this time was Mr. Sina Dingzhu, who built this road. When he was 11 years old, he was burned in the eye by the sparks from the burning iron while forging iron. However, because there was no road to get out of the mountains to the city, he missed the best time to treat his eyes and became permanently blind in one eye. Therefore, building a road to Bala Village became Sina's ideal since he was a teenager. For this ideal, Sina lived in the wild for two years and measured and explored the route of the road with his own feet. For this ideal, he spent his 30 years of savings and even encountered a landslide when the road was built for 14 kilometers. The newly built road and engineering machinery were destroyed, but it did not shake his belief in building roads. Sina mortgaged all his belongings to the bank and finally built this road to Bala Village. Today, the indigenous people of Bala Village have moved to the foot of the mountain through this road. Tourists are also fortunate to see the secrets of Balagezong because of this road. Walking on this road, each of us will feel the power of faith, just like Gaudi spent his life to build the Sagrada Familia. As long as a person has a firm belief, no matter how many failures he experiences, God will eventually favor those who are determined.

unique, excellent service, location, meals and room. Owner couple went out of their way to serve guests. They cooked the best meal in the area so no need to find food elsewhere. They arranged transport for us to go to Shangrila, Lijian Airport and the hiking trails. We were also invited to a wedding party in the Village high up i the mountain. Joyous celebration of dance and song with the whole village. our last day was the special day where the villagers slaughter their own pigs to make preserved meat. We were again invited to the farms high up in the mountain and had a most unique experience of live pig slaughtering and BBQ. No tour will ever offer this. As hotel, the accommodation is excellent for the price. Our room overlooks the gorge and mountain. The heated bed is great touch and comfort. Can see stars in the sky at night from the room balcony. Family run and treat guests like family. Highly recommended.

The staff at this home stay is some of the most exceptional and professional I’ve encountered in all my years of travel around the world (special shout-out to 小宋！）We were booked for 2 nights and our group of 3 was generously given an upgraded room. From the moment we checked in, 小宋 and his team were eager to assist with questions, recommendations and helping to arrange and set up itineraries for our stay. Sadly, on my second day, I became severely sick with altitude sickness and 小宋 came to my assistance immediately- checking my oxygen levels and setting me up to the oxygen machine in the room. He handled the entire situation with such kindness, compassion, composure and professionalism that I’m still blown away. He helped my family members find medicine for me and offered his advise and guidance while making them feel assured at what should’ve been quite a scary situation. When we decided it was best to leave Shangri la as soon as possible for lower elevations in Lijiang, 小宋 sprang into action to find us a carpool that was leaving within the hour and also took the initiative to help make sure we were refunded for our second night booked on a third party site. I can’t thank him enough and I will 100% recommend this hotel and this team to everyone I know that’s traveling to Yunnan. I truly hope to be able to return myself under better conditions. Even more so, the hotel also happens to be incredibly designed and beautiful with smart tech features in the rooms. When I booked, I thought it was a cool feature that they have oxygen machines inside each room, but who would’ve known that it would prove to be a lifesaver for me 😅

Pros: excellent location, close enough to the old town without being noisy at all; extremely friendly staff, who picked us up from the airport for free, helped us with the luggage all the time, and gave great advice about tours in Shangri-La; clean; comfy beds; good WiFi connection Something to improve: the bathroom- shower was a little difficult to use, and it would be great to separate dry and wet areas; breakfast was good but lack variety- we had the same for three days straight

Wonderful experience. The location is perfect. In the heart of the Dukezong, and tucked in just outside the ”noisy” part of the old town. We had a few hiccups the first day since the window was out of order filling the room with cold air. But the friendly and polite staff fixed it IMMEDIATELY and showed us that room has electric heaters inside the bed mattresses instead of floor heating. We're very thankful the staff let us check in earlier and leave the luggage in our room even though it was in the process of preparation and cleaning. In short: The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting downtown.

It was a great homestay experience. The boss and the proprietress are very enthusiastic. The dog in the hotel is also very docile. Fortunately, the boss upgraded the room type for us. The windows can directly see the two towers of Guishan Park in the ancient city of Dukezong. There is floor heating and power supply in the room. Oxygen has a humidifier, there is an electric blanket on the bed, everything is available! Disposable toilet covers are also thoughtfully prepared in the toilet. I really appreciate it. I feel the warmth brought by the homestay in the cold Shangri-La.

The boss is nice! The room is cleaned diligently! He introduced the surrounding attractions! It is also amazing that you can put on makeup in the inn! If there are many friends staying, you can go out in a group! The big fat rabbit should be considered a mascot
