Dos Playas - 30º Hotels
4.3/544 Reviews
I want to give a 3.75 rating rather than 3 for a number of reasons. We stayed at the Dos Playas hotel for 10 nights in July. It was my wife, daughter (9 yrs), dad (90 yrs), mother-in-law (81 yrs), and me, we generally had a good stay. Some things the hotel does very well and there are some things that should improve. The hotel is very clean and comfortable with excellent air conditioning throughout. The beds are very comfortable. From what we could see, most rooms are the same size and of a similar configuration, it's only the rooms on the first floor that have the larger balconies with sun loungers. The balconies on the upper floors are a good size with two chairs and a small table. A small point but there are no loo brushes in the rooms. I can see reasons why the hotel decided it this way but many of us prefer to have one available. The facilities are good and there is a fair bit for the kids to do. The pool area is well laid out and well maintained (as is the hotel in general), this is where we spent most of our time. Many guests go to the beach during the day so there is generally space and sun loungers/parasols available. It can get a bit windy, which can take the parasols flying - the lifeguard will ask people to take them down if this is the case (sensible). One can hire a Balinese bed for €25/days which provides shade, comfort, and some privacy (sort of) - we did this on the last day as it was quite windy and we needed the shade. There are organised pool-based activities (aqua aerobics, water polo, etc.) a couple of times a day, participation is not compulsory ;) The kids' mini club runs mornings and afternoons with supervised activities, games, and entertainment. Our daughter enjoyed it but as the majority of guests are Spanish there was limited opportunity to communicate with other children. This is not a complaint/problem, just an observation. There is a kids mini-disco at 21:30 and once a week there is a Disney show (it goes on quite late but hey, it's Spain and we're all on holiday). There is also evening music entertainment for adults. The staff are great, very friendly and helpful - I can't fault them and this is one of the major strengths of the hotel - they have done really well with their hiring. Our major disappointment, however, was the food. Considering this is a 4 star hotel, the quality of the food needs to be better. We booked full-board because the photos on the website give the impression of a high-quality buffet. After the first night and then breakfast, we were seriously considering switching to B&B but we persevered. That said, we ate at other locations a number of times as the quality was not up to standard. Some examples; cold scrambled eggs made from powdered eggs, bacon that was barely cooked, lamb stew that was all bone and fat, stale bread rolls at breakfast. We had an omelette made up at the grill which was almost inedible (again, powdered eggs and powdered cheese). To be fair, there
Ramada Resort by Wyndham Puerto de Mazarron

We stayed initially for 4 nights, but decided to extend by a further 3. Travelled to Murcia with my sister to stay with family, and then decided to stay on in the region, due to the continuing lovely weather. We booked the Ramada Resort in Puerto de Mazarrón online with ******* and ended up sharing two deluxe sea view twin rooms during our stay - one on the 4th floor - the second on the 2nd floor. On arrival we were welcomed by the lovely Soleil in reception. During our stay, she organised our room swap (due to staying on at the resort) and assisted in printing off return boarding passes. We found ALL hotel staff members to be attentive and pleasant, including the gardeners and maintenance staff. The equally lovely Ioana (Ana) and her colleagues in the bar area, were particularly attentive and we shall miss her drinks suggestions. The grounds and pool are well looked after and the sea and mountain views from the hotel are superb. The rooms are very modern, with large balconies, comfy beds, heated bathroom mirrors and a small fridge. The in-room satellite TV has a small number of English speaking channels - all of which were in high definition. The general vibe around the hotel was peaceful, un-rushed and relaxing. There were large bedded areas to lay on by the pool and plenty of sun-loungers evident elsewhere. There was also plenty of covered areas for those sensitive to the sun. The hotel throughout the weekdays was very quiet - only becoming more active over the weekends, but not excessively so. Apparently, (we were actually told this) their busiest time of the year, is a a ten week period from the end of June to the beginning of September. Please note: The Ramada Resort by Wyndham in Mazarron, is situated in an elevated position, up a hill named Calle Teide - hence the great views from the top. If relatively fit, it would take a person around 10 mins to walk up from the main road at the bottom, where a large Consum supermarket can also be found. The only real ‘downside’ to our stay, was the number of small midge-like flies that occasionally ‘pestered’ guests. However, a dab of anti-mosquito repellent helped relieve the frequency of these ‘pests’ somewhat. Re: actual mosquitoes - we only encountered them halfway through the week and generally only in the bedroom. They were easy to spot, as all rooms have predominantly white interiors. We chose not to eat at the hotel, due to the proliferation of very decent cafés and restaurants in town and by the marina. Would we stay here again? ABSOLUTELY! Without question.
