The Sundowner Cabin & Tourist Park
4.1/567 Reviews
The 2 bedroom cabin I booked was very new and clean. The kitchen had a stove, microwave oven, refridgerator and all cookinv and cleaning utensils. The beds were large and comfortable but blankets provided were not very warm for winter weather. We left the air conditioner on all night. The bathroom was designed for disabled access but there were no towel racks or hooks for hanging clothes. Location was on the main highway and a few minutes drive from a large shopping centre. Reception was only open during the day so make sure to contact them in advance if you plan to arrive at night.
Discovery Parks - Barossa Valley

I recently stayed in a Deluxe Safari Tent at Discovery Park Barossa Valley. I took my sister along to celebrate her 80th birthday. I requested twin beds and rang the day before our arrival to confirm we would have twin beds, but on arrival to our tent, I was rather miffed to find the bed made up as one King. A quick phone call and someone was over to rectify this. Then after using the very nice en suite bathroom, for the first time, I discovered a used wet towel still hanging on the back of our bathroom door. A brief email to the team and someone came over to collect the used towel that we left out on the verandah. The car park for the safari tents is located on the other side of the creek and you have a short walk over to the safari tent site which is restricted to safari tent guests only. Some tents are located close to this path but our tent, number 2 ,was tucked into the corner and required walking across the stepping stone path which is surrounded by smaller rocks. This was really a difficult journey for my sister and it was impossible for her to use her walker along this rocky stepping stone path. If you are coming with anyone who has any difficulty in walking, please make sure you find out which tent you are allocated first and that it is easy to access. I don't recall anywhere on their website that indicates that this is could be a problem. Tent 2 would also have the least desirable view from the balcony of all of the tents. Our first night stay was so peaceful and I felt very refreshed the first morning after a wonderful nights sleep in the very comfortable bed. Alas our second night was totally wrecked as the vineyard that abuts the safari tent area, (directly alongside the back of tent 2), had its vines harvested during the night. How could we be so unlucky! The harvest truck commenced at 12.30am and went until 4.30am. The noise was deafening and it was totally impossible to sleep. We had to check out at 10am and my nerves were all on edge due to the terrible night. I was very concerned about driving home after having so little sleep. I spoke to reception about it on my way out and whilst I appreciate it is something above their control, I really felt there was very little concern given to the effect that this had on us and how it totally wrecked what was supposed to be a relaxing stay and a special way to celebrate my sister's 80th birthday. A little bit of empathy from the park staff would have gone a long way but it was dismissed with 'we didn't know about and I've let our manager know'.
Stone Hut Cottage

Searching for a unique bakery we found the Old Bakery Stone Hut on line. So on our way back from Quorn on our way to Adelaide we stopped to try one of their famous wild boar pies. Sadly they didn't have any of that particular pie that day but they did have a number of others to choose from. I then decided that it was about time that I tried Kangaroo so I went for it and had a Kangaroo and red wine pie. My wife had a******** and stout pie which I also sampled. We each had a coffee since we were going to be on the road for still a few hours. Suffice to say everything was excellent and we will be returning the next time we are in the area.

Booked for ourselves and two other couples. Only had unpowered sites but that was OK. Couldn't do the booking as their computer was down. Were not told of the price but saw on the website it was $25 for unpowered site. FINALLY got an email 3 days later - $85 PER NIGHT - and wanted one night for deposit NOW. Two days before sent an email to us wanting it to be PAID IN FULL (we thought they were joking) but a phone call to us the next day and were threatened we would have to wait for at least an hour when we arrived if we didn't pay................ We paid and when arrived were greeted by blonde Hitler with no PR skills at all. (Think she was the same one that rang demanding full payment) She took great delight at giving us the three parks at the very extreme back of the park - actually it was just a grass area on a non-existing road next to piles of woodchips and gravel. To be positive at least we had a bit of room in our undulating scrub allotment and not cheek to cheek like so many others who were squeezed in. (One with a quarter of their caravan hanging over a deep creek). Hubby has recently had ankle surgery and we are both nearly 70 so was a bit of a pain we had to take a water bottle and a packed lunch to walk to the amenities - especially at night when there are no lights - need a torch unless moonlight. Plus no how water one morning. Googled same site when got home and price came up to $50 total for the same time frame - not $170 for two people for two nights with no power or water!!!!!!!! We have been HAD.............. We have stayed in a top caravan park in Darwin at peak holiday time with full services and that was less than two thirds of this price. In fact have NEVER paid this much even for a powered site. Shame on them and silly us for paying it !!!!!!!
Discovery Parks - Lake Bonney

I booked a pet friendly cabin for 3 nights. The cabin was quite expensive for what you got. The kitchenette needed upgrading with a proper stove not a tiny bench top toaster oven. Having said that the cabin was spotless, the bed comfortable, the linen of good quality and the shower nice and hot. The bonus was my dog was able to join me in the cabin. There were plenty of grassy areas I could walk her and although these pet friendly cabins are at the back of the park it was just a short stroll to the lake. The staff are very friendly and always give you a wave. I have used these cabins several times before and will use them again
Discovery Parks - Kangaroo Island

The room is large with two queen beds and one bunk bed for 6 people. The koala can be found on foot next to the hotel. The kangaroos will come out in the evening and you can see all kinds of wild animals. It is more interesting than the zoo. Next to the hotel is the National Park, a great location. The kitchen is fully equipped and suitable for bringing food to the hotel for cooking. The hotel's lawn is full of birds, and the speed limit of 15 is very reasonable. There are many small animals. Great hotel.

I suspect this motel has recently been taken over by its next-door neighbour and may be undergoing renovations. They're certainly painting outside. Hopefully they'll do the inside as well ... To check in, you have to go next door to the Adelaide Royal Coach. This wasn't mentioned at all during the booking process. It wouldn't be an issue if you didn't have to cross a road and wait for traffic lights to get there and back when checking in and out. Somewhat annoying. The room had everything you needed (aside from Wi-Fi - and you're told there's none when you make the booking). The bed was very comfortable. It was surprisingly quiet at night - even with the Fringe in full-swing. I expected a lot of traffic noise. The room definitely needs renovating. Shower curtain rather than screen, toilet seat that doesn't fit the toilet, etc. Any other location it would be about an $80 room. However, it's within easy walking distance of North Terrace, etc., which was the reason I chose it.

The Barn Accommodation

Last year we had an evening meal here and, due to having to drive an hour or so home on country roads I chose not to drink any wine. So this year we stayed overnight and had a fabulous time. When they said a Premier King, they meant 'Premier'; the room was huge with a fantastic bed and large ensuite. Check in was easy and once we had settled into our room it was a nice walk back to reception and into the Piano Bar to enjoy the ambiance over a cocktail before going in to the restaurant for dinner. I had the special steak after confirming it was gluten free (I am coeliac and need to avoid gluten at all costs). The staff were very helpful and clearly understood my needs and I enjoyed one of the best steaks I've eaten in years; it melted in my mouth. I also had a desert (gluten free of course) and really enjoyed the wine (a local Pino Noir), not needing to worry about safe driving. The next morning we enjoyed breakfast in the 'Engine Room' and again my Gluten Free requirement was carefully looked after. I have no doubt we will be doing this again in the future.
