Exceptional Stay in Shanghai - Highly Recommend! We recently spent two weeks traveling with our family in Shanghai, staying at five different hotels and homestays. Among all of them, our experience at the Shanghai Yaoting Lingju (Xiangyang South Road Branch) was by far the best. Accommodation: We stayed in the Family House - 2-Room unit, which was a breath of fresh air compared to our previous stays. The 80m² space was incredibly spacious, impeccably clean, and well-organized. The quality of the furnishings and equipment was top-notch, and the décor was elegant and modern, not cheap or dated like other places we stayed. Comfort and Amenities: The two queen beds were very comfortable, and the rooms had excellent noise insulation, ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep. We loved the separate areas for washing and drying clothes, which added a great convenience to our stay. The three bathrooms were spotless and well-maintained, with no signs of leaks or issues that we encountered elsewhere. Location: The location is perfect for European travelers. The area is very green, quiet, and pleasant, with a wide variety of dining options nearby. Whether you’re in the mood for European-style breakfasts or local Shanghai delicacies, you’ll find plenty of great spots within walking distance. Coffee lovers will also appreciate the abundance of cafes in the vicinity. Special Features: One of the highlights was the outdoor area. There’s a cool table outside where you can enjoy meals or just relax. The courtyard itself is charming, providing a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although the building is part of an older complex, it’s well-maintained and adds to the authentic Shanghai experience. Value for Money: The price-quality ratio at this homestay was excellent. Unlike our previous accommodations, where we often felt we were overpaying for subpar conditions, here we felt we received great value for our money. Everything from the high-quality repairs to the well-thought-out ergonomic design contributed to a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Overall Experience: Our stay at Shanghai Yaoting Lingju was exceptional. It surpassed all other places we stayed in terms of comfort, cleanliness, and overall experience. We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Shanghai. It’s a hidden gem that offers both quality and value.
Xiaozhu Homestay (Shaanxi South Road)

The Swan Goose room was cozy and exactly as pictured, with a nice view of the Shanghai skyline! Enough space for a short stay but may be a bit tight for longer stays with more than one suitcase. The service team was nice and always prompt to reply, allowing us to check in a few hours early and responding immediately when we had an issue with the room password. It’s on a lovely street with many places to eat and convenience stores nearby. The AC did not fully work while we were there so we didn’t extend our stay, but I’m sure they will fix it next time.

So this place has pros and cons and we’d like to look at it from both sides. First the pros. PROS: It’s close to Disneyland and has a cute setup with a bathtub and cozy loft. The loft is amazing if it’s freezing outside but it stays super hot even if the temperature is set at 20 degrees. Towel service was great too so whenever you need a new clean towel, it was there. The bed wasn’t the softest but it was firm (and some people prefer that) and the linens were clean. Last of all, location. It’s a 10 minute taxi ride to Disneyland which was amazing for the price. CONS: There was urine on the toilet seat when we arrived and there were stains in many parts of the hotel. Additionally, the noise from the road and guests was loud, making it difficult to sleep past 7 or 8 on vacation when you want rest. If you’re already awake at this time, it’s perfect. However, we just wanted some peace and quiet. Next, the hotel shuttle service to Disneyland is limited and it’s only at 7 and 7:40. It doesn’t offer shuttles through the day. Also, they wanted to pick us up only at 7pm. The park closes at 9:30 so it was an inconvenient service which we decided not to use since we’d like to choose when we go to the park. The buffet is ok but just limited to traditional Chinese food with 8-10 small portion selections with 1 drink selection so we stuck with water bottles in the room. Overall, we feel a 4.9 rating we saw when we booked this home stay truly misrepresented the place. We feel we had an obligation to share. We will not be returning but we are grateful for the experience.

The room type I booked is not good. The two bedrooms and one living room are in an attic. The living room can’t be any smaller. The breakfast is not good. There are few things, just a little white porridge, some buns, corn and sweet potatoes. The recreational facilities are good, including table tennis and billiards. You can also set off fireworks. The children are the happiest. The disadvantages are that the swimming pool is too small and the water quality is not good. I don’t know how often to change the water. I hope these shortcomings can be improved.

Nice hotel. Very friendly staff. A little bit far from Ubud center, but there’re many nice cafes nearby. Tasty and cheap breakfast 🥞 Actually no indoor swimming pool, was before, now it’s a part of the restaurant.

The location of this B&B is very good, right next to Wukang Building. Our family stayed here for two weeks in a row. Except for the old corridor, we thought it was pretty good! The boss arranged regular cleaning and even turned on the floor heating, which was very considerate! The bedding in the house has no peculiar smell, and the pots and pans are fully furnished. It is very suitable for a family to stay.

The boss communicated with us very carefully to confirm the correct address and explain the password lock and other information. The people are very friendly and the service is excellent. There is an elevator, the location is close to the South Shaanxi Road subway station, and there is a supermarket just two minutes' walk away, which is very convenient for elderly mothers. The lighting is good on the 16th floor. You can directly see the plane trees and the old house from below. Overall, I am very satisfied.

The house is as shown in the picture. It is beautifully and exquisitely decorated with a strong American style. It has two windows. The air is fresh, transparent and bright. The late autumn sunshine shines on the bed, making the room warm. The home appliances are complete and the landlord is very enthusiastic. There is a jewelry store in the community and I bought a lot of favorite treasures. The transportation is really convenient. Huaihai Middle Road is just outside the door. The house price is very affordable. I am very happy about this trip to Shanghai. We will meet again next time!
Guisu Homestay (Nanjing West Road)

Jing'an District/West Nanjing Road
We had a wonderful experience with the Guisu property for an 8-day stay. For a group of 5, this was much more convenient and cost-effective than having to book separate hotel rooms. I booked this room for my family, who was visiting China for the first time. Communicating with the host was very easy, and they responded very fast to any inquiry, sending over items, such as house slippers, within minutes upon request. Our communication was all in Chinese, so it may be helpful to have someone familiar with the language. What my family liked most about Guisu was that they felt like they were immersed in the city, experiencing the real life of a Chinese neighborhood, which a hotel may not be able to provide. The property was next to an elementary school, and while we were woken up each day by the sound of the children, it was nevertheless a pleasant, authentic, experience. The amenities and facilities all worked well, and the kitchen is stocked with dishes and utensils. Even if you are not cooking yourself, it is convenient to have all of this on hand. I would certainly recommend Guisu Homestay to other friends visiting Shanghai. The location near West Nanjing Road made it easy to walk everywhere, such as to People's Square or nearby parks. It is also close enough to the metro station, for a quick ride to other popular areas or train stations.
