Check in was very easy but upon opening the door to my room I was greeted with a bed that had been slept in and the smell of urine. I went to the toilet and there was dried up urine splashes on the floor that I had had to clean up myself. There are no toilet rolls either so I had to ask the reception. I had been out all day working and just wanted to relax. It’s was now 20:30. I was hungry and went to the restaurant with my friend who had already stayed at the hotel the night before. It appeared that the person serving us was the only one on shift at the time, the food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either and it took more than half an hour to arrive. There was no cutlery on the table either I went to another table to get the cutlery myself as the staff member didn’t seem too bothered to get us. Looking at the table next to us, there were used glasses and dishes of guests who had probably eaten there before us and the table wasn’t cleared. Getting the bill also took ages. The staff member lamented that he had a busy day and was very tired. I settled in for the night knit to realise that there was no phone service or wifi accessible in my room. I had to go out into the hallway in order to use my phone. The entire ordeal was like something out of a bad movie. I don’t understand how this can be allowed to happen.

Walked in and straight back out. Your senses will guide you Stale dirty smell, damp. Dark dismal. Read the reviews. Took the advice from locals to avoid at all costs. Such a stain on a beautiful village with so much beauty. The interior and exterior need a lot of work. I would never eat here went in out of curiosity afyer reading the reviews. And yes they were correct. Would give 0 if I could.

A decrepit and disgusting hotel which is largely an Indian restaurant with rooms. It is not a boutique hotel with lovely views and anyone who thinks it is hasn’t been there. Do not stay here and if you want evidence contact trading standards as I understand many guests have in the past

Disgraceful. Couldn't understand the man in 'reception'. Looked like a poor quality Indian restaurant. Graffiti on the door on 1st floor. Utterly ghastly so we left without unpacking anything and forfeited our money as we couldn't face staying in such a dump, and they have the nerve to charge £££ for breakfast.

We don’t quite understand the negative reviews. This is one of the loveliest places we’ve stayed, mainly due to the exceptional hospitality. The room I was given was both beautiful and spotless, blending the charm of a Victorian-era bedroom with the comfort of a modern bathroom. They also have a beautiful Garden space. to enjoy a nice evening, which we really appreciated. We had a stunning view of the sea and golf course, and waking up to a glorious sunrise was a treat. Like many boutique hotels, it seems to be run by a small team, which may explain some minor imperfections, but everyone we met offered excellent service and warmth at every point of contact. Perhaps our younger perspective contributed to our positive experience, but we genuinely appreciated the kindness shown by the staff. The hotel has an intriguing history as a 500-year-old building that once hosted the likes of Charles Dickens and King George. Despite some dated common areas and carpets, it seems to be undergoing renovation, which is understandable given its age and its "*******" reputation. Breakfast was a traditional full English, delicious and hearty enough to fuel our long beach walk afterwards. While the coffee was lighter than I prefer, the overall meal was satisfying. After attending an event at Alnwick Gardens, we returned late, and the coded entry system made it easy to access our room. A big thank you to Sam, Martin, and their small team for a wonderful stay. Best of luck with the continued renovations! We hope to return and see this place flourish. Cheers!

When we arrived the staff could not speak English very well and we had trouble explaining ourselves. The stairs up to the room were unclean and badly frayed (trip hazard). The room was very basic and cold. The whole ground floor is basically an Indian restuarant , doors were propped open with bits of wood, all in all this was not at all what was expected it advertised. An awful experience, we felt a bit intimidated. Do NOT go there !!!

Wouldn’t stay here again, locals said they wouldn’t be paid to stay… I was paid to stay via business trip and would still stay clear. First conversation with my work colleague.. it was all paid for and confirmed with an attitude, then when we both turned up it wasn’t paid for and wanted £260, a bit of back and forth which wasn’t needed, all of a sudden it’s been paid for again. Bad attitude behind the desk which would have been intimidating to some, bad service. Also got given a master key for my room which opened everything (obviously) bad in the wrong hands.

Called in for dinner at the Indian Restaurant. It was empty apart from one man when we arrived. Lots of empty tables so atmosphere not the best The man on the bar wasn't very friendly. Not a welcoming place. However we enjoyed our meal. The peshwari naan were lacking in the things that make a naan peshwari.

First impressions were not great, as they had given our room to someone else. Thankfully there was still space for us. As we walked in signage made it apparent that it doubles up as an Indian restaurant, that also does takeaway fish and chips... All a bit confusing! On arrival we were given a handout that was printed on A4 on an angle such that a lot of words were cut off. Careless. Our double room was filthy. Really filthy. The bathroom was obviously recently updated, but housekeeping hadn't cleaned that either. The room smelled damp, with occasional random sulphurous smell, so we opened the window for our whole stay. There was ample tea and coffee supplied. No hairdryer. Breakfast was a disaster. Very short service time from 9am to 10am. So the single staff member serving was not sufficient for the rush of guests. Would have been nice to be able to get an earlier breakfast to be able to get out for the day in good time. Dirty tea cups, and not enough cups and glasses to go round all the guests. We were not offered any menu or options, simply asked if we wanted full English. It came out in 5mins flat, and I could see how. Cold sausage, cold mushrooms, nearly cold beans, and half a rasher of bacon. A hair in my partner's meal. Not worth the extra £17 per head charged on top of the room. Being run down is one thing, which I understand takes time to overcome, but I've stayed in plenty of older run down places that are at least clean and run by a really welcoming and efficient team. General lack of care in what they are doing there. Can't be bothered to set a standard of cleanliness, or provide good service at breakfast. Not value for money, room rate far to high. Will never stay again.
