We come to Bad Reichenhall every few years, as I have family who still lives here. My relatives go back four generations that they have lived in this beautiful city. I usually stay at the Axelmannstein Hotel, as it's a tradition. Imagine my shock when I pulled up, with a paid reservation, and they had closed down a week prior for a much needed renovation!! I frantically looked for a place to stay, and found this hotel. First, let me say that they very welcoming and accommodating. Parking was no problem, as it was early November (very off season) and there were hardly any hotel guests. The location is perfect! We literally walked outside, turned left and right through the gate to the beautiful park. How awesome is that?! The room was spotlessly clean. There's a Nespresso machine, a small refrigerator with complimentary mineral waters. The carpet is thin, and there's no padding underneath, but that didn't deter us. The bathroom was very large and very clean. The only criticism I have is that there are no shelves in the shower, since I always bring my own hair care products. I had to set them above the toilet and open the shower doors each time I needed to shampoo or conditioner. I made it work. Daily housekeeping was very thorough. The breakfast was also a traditional German assortment of cold cuts, cheeses (my fave), fruits, veggies, cereals and breads. I loved the coffee machine, where I could have a daily cup (or two) of Cappuccino. The dining area is very charming, with lovely prints of Bad Reichenhall. It was always spotlessly clean and the staff was very friendly. Though I speak German, my husband does not. They were kind enough to speak English to him. The neighborhood where this hotel is located is really lovely and very quiet. There are other small "boutique" hotels and some residential homes. We felt very safe walking around at night. In fact, we walked to the train station-- less than a 5 minute pleasant walk on a regular basis. There we shopped at Aldis, there are little Imbiss restaurants and the tourist center. The location is really great! The price was very affordable, too. We would definitely come back here and I recommend this hotel to anyone.
