The Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station.
Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor.
Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out.
Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though.
I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.

We absolutely loved this hotel. Inside and outside, its beautiful! The rooms were modern and clean and they provided a well stocked coffee bar. Location is also good, walking distance from the city centre. Would definitely recommend.

Yu&xingCaught in a weekend + peak season, the room rate was quite expensive. The room itself wasn't very big, but we were able to check in early. With the sofa bed pulled out, there was barely any space left after opening our luggage. The windows were sealed, and the air conditioning worked decently. Breakfast was a typical English breakfast, and it was included by default with our stay. There were no vegetables or fruits, but it was filling enough. The hotel is within walking distance of the train station. Recommended for a short stay.

Located within a golf course, the hotel boasts a tranquil, peaceful, and comfortable environment with beautiful scenery. However, it's quite far from the city center, about a 30-minute drive from York's Old Town. If you're not traveling by car, it's not the best choice for accommodation. But if you have a car, it's an excellent option as parking is free.
The hotel has two restaurants with good food, but they are very expensive and the portions are small – typical fine dining. If you don't want to spend too much on food, it's best to eat in the city before entering the hotel.

yilunpartyUpon entering the room, I noticed the toilet and cups were dirty, and there was limescale in the kettle. I informed the front desk, and they quickly sent someone to clean it, so their response was prompt. The guy at the front desk spoke excellent English, which was easy to understand. The hotel's location is superb, situated by the River Ouse, within walking distance of the train station, and very convenient for visiting the old city. The breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious, offering great value for money!

If you are Chinese, I strongly suggest thinking twice before staying here.
I was first assigned a room in the side building that reeked of mould and had a broken bathroom sink. After complaining, I was moved to an accessible room on the same floor, despite having no accessibility needs — no bathtub, an absurdly tiny sink, and a mirror positioned for wheelchair users. If this was considered an appropriate replacement, perhaps they should have provided a wheelchair too.
What made the room allocation even more questionable was that the floor, with around 11–12 rooms, appeared largely empty. And it certainly wasn’t because of good soundproofing — I could clearly hear guests talking in other rooms.
So why was I first given a mouldy, broken room, and then an entirely unsuitable accessible room when the floor did not even appear full?
Separately, there was a white female receptionist whose behaviour made the experience even worse: dramatic eye-rolling, a condescending attitude, followed by the most artificial “professional” smile imaginable.
I cannot prove the motivation behind the room allocation, but as a Chinese guest, the entire experience left me feeling singled out and discriminated against.
A terrible room can be an accident. Repeatedly questionable treatment is harder to explain away.

Anonymous UserIt was a very pleasant stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They are also quite accommodating. The location is superb as it is just a 12 mins walk to thr city center.
The pool and sauna made the sray more fun.
The only critique would be the breakfast as breakfast options are limited and the same everyday. There were not enough pastries or hot food options. But it is definitely not bad. It is just a tiny feedback that would make the whole experience a 10/10.

MayneNI had a really lovely stay here. The hostel is in a great location, very close to the city centre and easy to reach on foot. The building itself is beautiful, cosy and full of character, with a charming old-fashioned feel.
The cleanliness was 10/10 for me. Considering that it is a hostel with people constantly coming and going, I was genuinely impressed by how clean everything was, especially compared with other hostels I have stayed in.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the common area is comfortable and cosy. There is no kitchen, but breakfast is available in the morning at a reasonable price.
There can be a little noise from the street outside, but overall this is an excellent place to stay. I would especially recommend it to women travelling solo. I felt safe and comfortable during my stay.
One extra tip: don’t spend your whole trip only in the city. If you are visiting between May and September, take one of the longer local bus routes towards the coast. The journey itself is beautiful, with wonderful countryside and coastal views, and it is a great way to see another side of the area.
I would definitely stay here again.

Stuart AyrisNice cosy room outside of the main hotel. Only window was a skylight that you could open, but it didn't give a lot of natural light. Bed was comfortable and shower good. Excellent amenities within the room including tea/coffee, ironing facilities and TV.
Perfect location for exploring the city and the bonus of free parking.
The continental breakfast was a little sparse and if you're a vegan, you may want to let the hotel know ahead of arrival.
Despite the odd area for improvement, still very good value.
