Lodging on the Square

The only thing that this place has going for it is its location. The room (#100) was outdated and in the basement down 12 steps. There is no front desk and you had to go to the Berlin Heritage hotel to checkin and get your key. The Lodging on the Square is an annex of the Berlin Heritage hotel and has no on site staffing, no real breakfast and no housekeeping except for a change of towels and emptying of wastebaskets but only if you fill out a form requesting towel changes at checkin. The bed was okay but the pillows are old and lumpy. We booked for 3 nights and tried to checkout a day early and the front desk manager said we could checkout early but there would be no refund for the final night we had booked but would not be using. At checkin they charged our credit card for the full 3 night stay instead of waiting until checkout before charging for the full booking. Don’t recommend this place, avoid like the plague!

the only thing they need to do is let a tv guide. I had to go on and on to find what i wanted. The room was clean and ready when we arrived. the coffee was too strong to my liking but everting was good Richard

Very neat and tidy rooms. Close to all of my favorites - ginger house coffee, Amish country soap and all th cute little shops! Not to mention East of Chicago is right next to where our room was! Great AC, nice showers and very spacious room! Would definitely stay again, especially for the great rates! Thank you!

Staff was great but we were locked out of our room a day earlier than we were to leave. Our cards stopped working. It really upset our pet to have us outside the door and unable to enter the room. We were glad we had our cell phone and car keys because we went to Berlin Inn to have this corrected.

Manager from another facility came promptly when called for weather emergency. That was greatly appreciated.

The hotel is clean and a nice place to stay. It was supposed to include a free breakfast but to do that you had to drive to Their other hotel and when we got there it was so full with nowhere to sit. Very inconvenient since we couldn’t just get food and go back to our room since we had to drive. Had to go elsewhere for breakfast. Felt when we booked she should have been told this upfront not after we booked and paid for room. So there is t really a free breakfast included on-site!!! Reception was very friendly and explained everything very well.

Room had musty smell I had to go buy candles and room freshener no continental breakfast at site had to go to another site they owned and it was terrible. Food in baggies to heat yourself and was tasteless stayed there couple years ago was lot better

There was a sign on the front door directing us to go to another hotel down the road to check in and get our keys. There was no person on site in case we needed anything. During the tornado siren it would have been nice to know where to go or what to do - and when it was safe to return to rooms.

Property is conveniently located in downtown Berlin. We like the proximity to Mt. Hope, and walkability to Boyd's.
