Originally we were going to stay in Aviemore, but decided to pay a bit extra and book this hotel as it was close to the Boat of Garten golf course. For the price of the room (around £150) we expected a clean and comfortable hotel with good service. Unfortunately we got none of the above. Our room was at the top of the hotel and the carpets in the hallway were sticky, shabby, threadbare and covered with silver tape to prevent anyone from tripping. The room itself was pretty small and not really particularly appealing. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. The hot water tap rotated in my hand and didn't work. The shower door wouldn't shut and the water pressure was next to non existent. At night the room was uncomfortably warm and the heating was not even switched on. In the middle of the night I checked the radiator and it was cold. The window couldn't be opened. Going down to dinner in the evening followed a similar pattern. Typical pub food that was over priced, verging on the extortionate. Service in the restaurant was pretty poor. There were enough of the young staff present but they were too busy fooling around to bother with the customers. We only ordered a main course and it took 90 minutes to arrive. What was really annoying was the constant door bell "ding dong" to tell the waiting staff that food was ready to be taken to the table. The food itself was average to say the least. To finish it off, around 7 in the morning there was a loud noise from just outside the room reminiscent of an airplane engine. Walking out of the open fire door at the side of the room to look, it appears that there is a large flue type structure which was the culprit. If you want to pay an exorbitant price for a small shabby room, £4 for a small bottle of coke, £6 for a coffee, £19 for a bbq crispy chicken burger allied with poor service then this is the hotel for you.,....but before you do, I recommend you read some of the recent reviews that are consistently similar. I certainly won't be back.
