Guest UserThis stay was really nice but to pay for spa was disappointing I was only there one night as my husband was in hospital close by so ended up paying 40 for spa in night and in morning and there where lots of people with club membership so wasn’t that relaxing as I was staying at hotel to relax I wouldn’t return the staff where really nice so if you don’t want a spa to relax I would recommend

First time taking grandson to Chester with an over night stay. First impression of Hotel including location was excellent and I have only one negative from our stay which was reported to reception on checking out. There is a big problem in the hotel with bedroom doors slamming shut noisily every time someone enters or leaves a room as they have no dampening which spoilt our evening and night in our room. The rest of the hotel was excellent with a good swimming pool and restaurant. The breakfast can only be described as superb with our grandson thoroughly enjoying it. The location including the car parking was ideal for walking round Chester City Centre with a 100 yd walk to the main streets and the Levels.
Overall, I would recommend the hotel for a City Break and would easily qualify for 5 stars if they could put some dampening device / closing spring on the bedroom doors.

Checking in at the main Oddfellows hotel was smooth but it would have helped to have the exact address of the apartment in advance, so we could park more easily. There is one parking space at the apartment but it is a tight entrance!
Apartment 5 was upstairs and very spacious. The lounge/kitchen/diner was well set up and the tea and coffee available was very welcome. Bedrooms and bathrooms were large, comfy and clean (but could do with a few hooks for towels or coats). There is even a laundry room. Decof is quirky and the location is great - just off the main streets. Fabulous place to stay.

Guest UserJust a brief overnight trip so didn't really use any amenities. Breakfast was good, dining room was overly full so had to go in the conference room, which really should have been laid out properly to use and not abandoned chairs everywhere. Should have had cutlery and condiments in that room too.
Overall would stay there again

DrVicThe location of this hotel is great, very close to Chester and all the attractions around.
In terms of the room, our room was very spacious and the bed was very big. However it was two singles joined together, so a gap between the two.
This is probably where the good bits end. The size of the room and bathroom really was a positive though, especially travelling with a baby.
We had to pay £5 to hire a travel cot and in the end we didn’t use it. The cot mattress appears to have never been replace and was very thin and lumpy, making it redundant. The wooden slates at the bottom of the crib could be felt very dominantly through what was left of the mattress, meaning our baby was waking up uncomfortable and we had to transfer him to the bed.
In terms of things that could do with improvement:
Cleanliness
The room floor was very dirty and could have benefited from an additional vacuum. Initially I put this down to arriving on New Year’s Day and then having a lot of people check out that day, but the whole hotel appeared a little bit grubby on closer inspection.
The spa pool was exceptionally dirty. The floor coming out of the changing room covered in hair and general dirt. The showers looked like they hadn’t had a good scrub in months, with yellow build up all over the floor and walls. Not what you expect from a spa! To top it off after swimming I have contracted the Norovirus.
Service
Our first encounter with the reception staff was great the lady very welcoming and friendly. We met the cleaner as well who was also lovely. The rest of the staff we encountered were not so great. Either rude or disinterested, I get that it might not be your dream job but service with a smile goes a long way.
Facilities
The hot water takes a while to come through at busier times, this is signposted in the room. However, the water does not get very water at all. It does come through at a pleasant temperature, but not great if you like a bath or shower on the warmer side.
There are three times a day when you can go swimming with children. It would be great if these times were restricted to children/families only, as there were quite a few adults sitting around the poolside and in the hot tub.
Breakfast was ok, but a lot of the time left uncovered.
Overall not a great stay and would be unlikely to stay again.

Guest UserFriendly reception staff. Great location. Room good size and modern bathroom but not the cleanest, hair on dress cushions, hair in shower tray, lots of dust in room. Expected a bit better from here.

Guest UserReally clean and tidy room and we had the best night sleep on the comfiest bed. Plenty of tea and coffee. Really friendly and helpful staff. Location was at the Center of Chester which made everything easier to get too. It was right by the shops and loads of places to eat. Self service breakfast with plenty of choice enjoyed everything and hope to visit again.

Guest UserGood hotel, nice breakfast with a variety of items. Very good juices, coffee and tea selection Great pool area and sauna. Shame Aircon does not work in the rooms. Even with the heating in the rooms turned off we still had to leave the window open overnight as it was too hot.

Guest UserBrilliant location, lovely old building.
The fold out beds for kids are uncomfortable (worse than the ones at travel lodge or premmier inn).
Don't bother with breakfast! Kept running out of things and didn't always replace them. Bacon inedible, sausages cheap, no nlack pudding even though it's on the menu and small portions.
I would stay again but wouldn't add breakfast

Guest UserHandy location for travel to North Wales and an easy drive to Chester. Hotel rooms are dated. We only had one bedside cabinet and lamp in a double room. The wardrobe door was in danger of falling off. Room looked out onto another part of the building. A storeroom or something. No window in en suite. Felt a bit claustrophobic.
Breakfast was of limited choice but adequate.
The public areas and pool facilities were clean.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
