The Young Street Hotel

There was a foul smell in the room. I had to open the windows but didn’t solve the problem. The showers were a mess. Dirty and needed a scrub. For $100, we have seen much much better places than this one. Kindly pay attention.

Kitchen was dirty, smelly, fridges were not clean. No mugs & cutlery. Shower head kept spraying, had to use the other shower. No shampoo, & body wash only conditioner & it did not get replenished. You need to take more care of your visitors, very unhygienic & not healthy especially for kids.

Room was covered in bugs and cockroaches. Stains everywhere from where they have been previously squashed.

My partner and I are on a jag of "Let's try something new". We used to go to the Young Street Hotel under its previous ownership when it was higher end dining. Wow. Has it nosedived!! We walked into the restaurant area that has now been "kiddy-fied" and we were deafened by children screaming. Some were in a room off the main dining area, treating the furniture like jumping castles. We retreated to the front bar and ordered our food. And then we waited... and waited... Our shared entree of pork belly bites was OK but ordinary. We waited another half hour or more (my partner works from home and had a Zoom meeting coming up) and our mains turned up. I had the entree size Rare Beef Tataki. It was actually a largish serve for an entree, but it was tough and completely lacking in flavour. My partner's fish and chips were average but a bit on the small size and lacking in flavour. Add a Coke and a glass of red wine and the bill hit $96.77. Add a second glass of wine and the bill went over $100. For an extremely ordinary meal with long wait times and screaming kids. We wont be back.

This was the worst pub meal Ive ever had in Newcastle. The food was incredibly poor, like I didn’t think was possible anymore. Burnt and soggy toastie, overcooked schnitzel with soggy lettuce covered in poor quality dressing. Massively overpriced. The tables were sticky dirty, atmosphere awful, poorly maintained and not clean. This pub will go broke if they don’t improve. Do yourself a favour and don’t go.

The bed was fresh and comfortable but I totally expected there to be a towel.

Was a good place to stay whilst travelling/working in the area.
