I was hesitant about our long Labor Day stay at Tides Folly Beach based on reviews I had read, but ended up being pleased overall with a great mini-vacation. Here are some of my thoughts: Price: You are paying for the location, hands down. However, compared to some really really nice resorts I have stayed at, this place IS reasonably priced for oceanfront, with a beach and private pool, Tiki Bar, and restaurant. Rooms: Like others have said in reviews, these rooms are pretty basic and that is ok. We were rarely in the room but loved the view and the newly renovated shower was probably the best water pressure/temp we have ever had in a hotel shower. I will agree that the floors were a pain in the neck because despite our best efforts, we brought a lot of sand in. I really wish they would just provide a broom/dust pan in every room to help with that--the daily room clean wouldn't be able to keep up with it. There was some oxidization on some of the metal pieces in the room, but the humidity was insane while we were there so I get why it happens. It did not bother us at all. Besides the great shower, the AC in the room was AMAZING!! We had some close to 90 degree days and the room stayed cold and comfortable. The TV had a variety of channels and the little refrigerator stayed cold. (It was a pain to go through a cabinet to get it, but no biggy over all.) But the rooms were clean. (The balcony IS a Juliette balcony so you won't be sitting out there, but its still nice to have) Pool/Beach Area: The pool is small but there always seemed to be a place to sit when we wanted. It was warm but comfortable. We spent most of our time on the beach, but one day when it was really windy on the beach, the pool worked comfortably. It is an old pool and the bottom is a bit stained but it seemed clean and was never cloudy. The beach area is wonderful but be prepared to pay $45 each day for two chairs and an umbrella, if needed. We planned that in our budget and 4 of our five days we paid that. The first day I mistakenly got the wooden chairs, which proved to be a problem since you couldn't move around to get some sun if wanted. After the first day, we got the moveable chairs and that was much better. Even though it was a holiday weekend and the beach WAS busy, it wasn't too rowdy or crazy. The ocean was perfect--lots of waves but easy to walk the beach and to play in the surf. Elevators: A lot of people complained about the elevators in previous reviews and even while we were there one broke down once or twice. But there was always a repair man there quickly and only one time did we have to wait what I would consider a long time--maybe 5 minutes? During that time, hotel personnel brought us water and/or a frozen popsicle which was a nice gesture. Parking: Never had any issues with parking as you are guaranteed a spot. Hotel Personnel: Everyone was really friendly. We arrived really late our first night so we never received
