The Dog Inn

Was greeted upon arrival by the very genial Richard who kindly informed me he had upgraded the room I had booked to a bigger one, Thanks Richard, a great start. Lovely bar with friendly and interesting locals. Didn't eat in the hotel, but when I did return to the bar later it was bustling and welcoming. The highlight was Richard's breakfast, prepared fresh to order and using local quality ingredients, it was delicious. Make no mistake, this is a pub with lovey clean rooms with quality bedding, towels etc. If you are more comfortable in the corporate sterility of a chain hotel, this won't be for you. If you want a lovely stay, talking to interesting people and enjoying genuine hospitality, this is a great place.

If you're looking for a good priced, clean and comfortable room, look no further. The Dog Inn is a traditional boozer, with no thrills and the outside might put people off, but the welcome was warm and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again. When leaving, the pub is on a bad bend, so caution is required

Fantastic friendly host with a cozy pub atmosphere. Breakfast was very nice, tasty and plentiful. All in all, a great find and well worth the money. Highly recommended. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy with tea coffee facilities and comfy beds.

We booked room for 1 nights stay spent a few hour's at the pub, met Richard the landlord who made us very welcome plus a few regulars very relaxing first time out after 6weeks of radiotherapy it was a real tonic 😀 lovely room4 and bathroom spotless, sorry couldn't stay for Full English breakfast (thanks to Fred) we look forward to the next visit Linda&Bob 😀 😊

A proper pub, great real ales for Halstead, nice beer garden with views over the North Essex countryside. Richard The Guv is a real gent, knows his beers and it’s great for a pint on your own, family or couples. A nice vibe and really decent people that frequent. Plenty of parking and rooms for those that might wish to stay over.

I was looking for somewhere to stay with a friend, while visiting family. The Dog Inn turned out to be a great choice and we stayed dir 2 nights. We were made to feel very welcome which made us feel very relaxed on arrival. There was only 1 room left when I booked, which apparantly was the smallest room. It was a twin room and was big enough for the 2 of us. There was toiletries fluffy towels and plenty of tea, coffee & hot chocolate drinks. The beds were very comfortable. We had pre booked breakfast, and what a breakfast it was. Plenty of choice of Cereals, lovely crusty bread with choice of jams. The best bit for us was the lovely cooked breakfast. All local produce cooked to perfection. The sausages were so big and very tasty. The pub was a great friendly atmosphere and nothing was to much trouble for the landlord. We will most definitely be visiting again 👍

A very nice welcome from Richard. The room/bathroom was very clean and nicely presented. Very comfy bed & pillows and nice large fluffy towels. A very good option of teas and coffees in the room as well as nice toiletries.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights when we visited Halstead to attend a family wedding close by. It is an old country pub full of character with a few rooms. It's nothing fancy but it is very comfortable and clean. The owner is Richard who made us very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. His hospitality extended to a hearty, well presented and delicious breakfast. We even enjoyed a couple of pints of real ale in the beer garden. We truly had an enjoyable stay here.

Met with friends before a camping festival for lunch. Meal was amazing, service quick and the food was beautiful. The landlady was friendly and a fantastic host. The icing on the cake....... the landlady tracked us down in the marquee in the middle of a field with a phone we had left on the table. Restores your faith in human beings.
