Excellent
GGuest UserExcellent, excellent, excellent, excellent!
Environment: Very good
Facilities: Good
Hygiene: Decent
Service: Wow, the experience exceeded my expectations! The room had great natural light, no strange odors, and even the corners were clean. The bedding was soft, and the bathroom had plenty of hot water. The front desk staff patiently explained the local attractions, and their service was really thoughtful. The location is close to the subway and tourist spots, making it super convenient for getting around. Highly recommend!
GGuest UserIt's rare for a place to get 5 stars from me, but this one truly exceeded my expectations and deserves full marks.
As a hostel, the price is very affordable. Of course, I've stayed in cheaper places, but what really impressed me here was the cleanliness. After checking in, you have to change into slippers before entering the room, which I really appreciate (though I did wonder what would happen if someone had smelly feet!).
Besides the en-suite bathroom in the room, there are also several shared shower rooms and toilets outside, which is perfect for someone like me who comes back late and doesn't want to disturb others. They're not cramped, and there's space to put your toiletries, which is very convenient.
The room uses a password to open the door, which is a bit of a hassle. If you don't have your phone, it's impossible to remember. The lockers in the room also have self-set passwords, which isn't particularly convenient; I saw two people struggling, repeatedly trying to open their lockers after forgetting their passwords or setting them incorrectly.
You have to put on the bedsheets and duvet cover yourself – clean, but a bit of a bother, depending on how you see it. There are cabinets above the bed, which are handy for storing things. There's a washing machine and a common lounge area, but I didn't use either. Overall, during the dozen-plus hours I stayed, my impression was very good (my roommates were quiet, which was a bonus!).

LLuanpaodeyouyuAfter a long day of traveling, checking in here instantly melted away my exhaustion. The entire place was meticulously cleaned, the bathroom was spotless and dry, and the bedding was soft. Each bunk had full privacy features, ensuring an undisturbed rest. The front desk staff, particularly 'Guoguo', was incredibly friendly, helpful, and reliable. The common lounge had a cozy, warm glow, and I enjoyed chatting with fellow travelers from all over, sharing interesting stories and even exploring local spots together. The owners were genuinely thoughtful and generous, freely sharing tips on local delicacies and hidden gems. This wasn't just a one-night stay; it was a wonderfully gentle encounter on my journey. Both the value for money and the overall experience were perfect. I wholeheartedly recommend it to solo travelers.

GGuest UserIt was just okay, not really great value for money. It's fine if you're just sightseeing, but if you're a girl traveling alone, I'd probably look elsewhere.
Let's start with the pros:
1. **Great Service**: The front desk is staffed 24/7, and it feels pretty safe for being in a residential area.
2. **Convenient Amenities**: They sell instant noodles and such inside, at the same price as outside. Plus, there are lots of bars downstairs, so the nightlife is quite lively.
3. **Privacy & Cleanliness**: In the single rooms, once you pull the curtain, you barely see your roommate. The toilet and shower were both quite clean.
Now for the cons:
1. **Inconvenient Location**: Although they say it's close to the subway station, it's actually a good 10-15 minute walk from the exit to the guesthouse. The pedestrian overpass to the subway exit only has an escalator going up. When going *from* the hotel *to* the subway, the overpass only has stairs. If you have luggage, you'll be constantly climbing, which is incredibly tiring.
2. **Safety Concerns**: Walking along the street, there are many people who have had too much to drink at the roadside bars. As a girl alone at night, it didn't feel very safe.
3. **Charging Issues**: The charging ports near the bed aren't standard outlets, so charging is quite slow. You have to go down to the front desk area to use their power strip.

GGuest UserThe room decor was incredibly thoughtful, vintage yet cozy. The cleanliness was impeccable; the floors and room were spotless and odor-free, which is truly a rare find in Shanghai. The common areas were also very comfortable, especially the dining table area which had a fantastic ambiance – it felt great just sitting and relaxing there. 🛋️ The owner was very kind, communication was smooth, and their recommendations were super helpful. Overall, for a short stay in Shanghai, this place was both quiet and unique, offering incredible value for money. I'll definitely choose it again next time!

TtonytravelsmondoI am grateful for Xiao Duan and Xiaolin for the help they’ve provided me!!
Great value hostel in a top location — a few honest tips for fellow travellers
The location is absolutely spot-on — right in the heart of things, couldn't ask for better. The staff were brilliant: genuinely helpful and welcoming. They gave me a disposable towel and tissues free of charge, which normally costs ¥3 — a small gesture, but a kind one that made a difference.
A few honest notes if you're coming from somewhere like Japan (as I was): manage your expectations on cleanliness. Japanese hostels spoil you — spotless rooms, no smells, the lot. China is different, and this place is no exception. The toilet had a bit of an odour, and the rooms could do with more regular ventilation. It's not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing.
On the plus side: free drinking water to fill your bottle, paid laundry on-site, and that unbeatable central location. The rooms themselves are decent enough nothing flash, but perfectly fine for the price.
Finding the place: Google Maps is patchy in China at best. I'd strongly recommend downloading Baidu Maps or Amap (高德地图) before you arrive — they're far more reliable here. If you do use Google Maps, cross-reference the address with the Chinese name 登巴客栈 (Dengba Hostel) to avoid ending up on the wrong side of town.
Overall, a solid 4-star stay — perhaps I'm slightly biased coming straight from Japan, but for the price and location, it's a sound choice.

GGuest UserExcept for the smaller room, the air conditioning, bathroom, and services are all very good. The main reason is that the price is affordable. There are not many cheap places like this in Shanghai.

BBlackeyedsamuraiBooked this hotel last minute, cause my favorite hotel is closing down business this month and i wanted something nearer cause I’m well versed with the surrounding areas, 1: the first red flag is the reception, mail and deliveries are all piled up and falling off shelves, it’s so dirty and humid, it looks like a hoarder’s poach, they’re no waiting chairs, so you’ll stand while they process the guests that came before you until it’s your turn !! The receptionists are very nice and helpful .
2; no room housekeeping ( you’ll have to ask for someone to come take the rubbish and give you towels or change your bedding.
3: THE FILTH!!! The filth is on level 1000/100 the grime made it hard for me to shower with my eyes open, I’m not sure if the place has a manager and if they care about the the wellbeing of the clients , because from what i saw, the cleaners don’t even bother, the floor had food stains from i think when they just opened, the sink🤮 the bathroom ( that one corner gave me the hibbigibeis) the toilet seat was broken
, everything in the bathroom was broken and dirty , then my charger fell in the space which is between the bathroom glass and the bed, got down to retrieve it and i decided it was best to just a get a new charger instead.
The place if cleaned and cared for would be an amazing hotel apartment, it has great amenities , a washing machine a fridge and a drying rack if you upgrade to a bigger room, a kitchenette that would be great if you are interested in cooking and staying longer and it’ has an Aldi downstairs, a gym and lots of other great places surrounding it . I really hope the owners would read this and take it into consideration and carry out serious supervision or else their property will lose value, The hygiene of the hotel does not only ensure the health and wellness of the visitors who sleep in those walls but also keeps the property value up. Dirt And filth only brings it down and puts the health of others at risk . I really hope they change standards.
