"The room was much larger than typical Tokyo hotels, comparable in size to a standard hotel in China. Breakfast was plentiful, and right outside the hotel, there's a stop for both the airport shuttle and the bus to Lake Akan. It's also just a few hundred meters from Washo Market, which is super convenient. The front desk kindly granted my request for a one-hour late checkout. Many thanks!"

"We booked this hotel for its proximity to the Kushiro train station and bus station (these were just opposite the hotel) which saved us the walking in snowy conditions. The triple room we booked was surprisingly bigger than I would imagine for a typical Japanese hotel. We tried the hotel breakfast and it was good for value and have a spread of food choices. The staff were friendly and despite of language barrier, we managed to be able to request for assistance. I would like to thank Ryoyo for his help in checking for alternative bus to Sapporo due to train suspension and he further helped to contact our Sapporo hotel to inform that we will arrive later due to unforeseen train suspension. As per other reviews about the attitude of the hotel staff, I personally feel that they are really helpful but might appear rude to foreigners as they are not good at expressing themselves. The hotel has a manga corner and amenities shelf which you can grab special hair amenities and other types of pillows. There is also free washing machine which my husband used it daily to wash his clothes, free onsen and coffee. Overall, this hotel has great amenities and facilities. The famous tourist attractions were within walking distance from the hotel (MOO/ EGG/ Nusamai Bridge about 15-20mins walk)."

"Everything is good about this hotel, except the room is small especially the attached bathroom. It can sleep two persons but if both are 180cm tall, you probably have to navigate slowly. But none of us is that big, so it works for us, we booked 2 rooms for a family of four. Breakfast is nice. The hotel provides parking for a very reasonable fee of 500 Yen a day."

"The room wasn't huge, but it was perfectly fine for us with two kids. We paid a small extra fee for the children, and it even included breakfast, which felt quite reasonable. The lobby had a good selection of drinks, and the hotel felt very international with lots of foreign guests."

"The hotel is the work of a local ”genius” designer. It is called the Castle, with small windows, western-style rooms, and a bathroom that is not a complete bathroom. It is separated into dry and wet areas. Breakfast is set, afternoon tea drinks and red wine are provided, and red wine curry venison is provided after 7pm. There are pillows to choose from. What I am not satisfied with is the air conditioning and heating, which is not as comfortable as Domi Ying"

"Honestly, I was quite impressed the first time I stayed here because it was so much better than the Gyozenmizu Hotel, where I usually stay (though there's often a big price difference between the two). At the very least, it was genuinely clean and hygienic, unlike Gyozenmizu's rather lackadaisical approach to cleanliness. The hotel facilities here are also much more thoughtfully designed; at least the door frames aren't under 1.8 meters! Is being tall in Japan a mistake? However, on my second stay, the showerhead was broken, barely spraying any water. By the way, in Hokkaido, outside of Sapporo and Otaru, no matter how nice the hotel or how big the room, the bathroom within the room is always terrible..."

"The hotel's location is excellent; it's a two-minute walk straight ahead after turning left from the JR station. There's a bus stop and a sightseeing bus pick-up point right outside the entrance. It's also just over a ten-minute walk to Nusamai Bridge. The hotel breakfast is delicious, and there are complimentary alcoholic beverages and soft drinks on the first floor in the evenings. They also offer free hot springs. The only downside is the questionable cleanliness, which needs improvement."

"The hotel has been renovated. Its hot spring facilities are quite unique; for example, women are required to shower unclothed before entering the rooftop open-air bath. The staff provided excellent service and had impressive language skills, though the parking fee was a bit steep. The hotel is conveniently located near Nusamai Bridge and the market."

"I had an urgent need to go to Kushiro and stayed overnight without meals. There's a parking lot, but it's not very spacious. Even with a kei car, the width is just barely enough to park, but it's manageable. I appreciate that there's no charge for parking. At the reception, they need to note down your car's license plate number. It's close to the station. I went to a public bathhouse. You can choose from a small selection of pillows. Also, the room uses a traditional key, not a card key. The downside, given the cheap price, is that the walls are thin, so you can hear sounds from other rooms."

MMaverick MakWe stayed here for 2 nights. The room is absolutely gorgeous. We booked a room with In-suite onsen, and it is directly fronting the river.
The room is very spacious with all the amenities you need. Modern-Japanese Ryokan styled. Very thoughtful design. There are seating area directly overlooking the river so you can have the picturesque scenery anytime of the day.
The breakfast and dinner were sumptuous. At 10.30pm, they serve complimentary ramen too. Popsicles are served when the onsen is open, and in the morning Yogurt drink will be served at the Onsen area.
There are 7 Sika Deer freely roaming at the property. They are such a sight to behold. Absolutely gorgeous, highly recommended.

TTutusThis was the most anticipated part of our entire trip, and it certainly didn't disappoint!
#Hotel Location: Excellent. It's right on the hot spring street, and behind it is the pier for lake boat tours (Happy Boardwalk).
#Hotel Service: They upgraded us to a large suite for free, and the view was absolutely fantastic. I loved the suite's layout, amenities, and the smart toilet. The outdoor hot spring faces the lake, and the male and female baths rotate at different times, so you can try them all (っ˘ڡ˘ς)♨️
The buffet was also good, and we additionally ordered a red king crab which was delicious. You can book many activities and experiences at the hotel. There's an outdoor shop called Siri on the first floor of the hotel where you can book activities like hiking and lake tours. My friend and I booked the night forest light show at the front desk. The only thing worth complaining about is how ugly the hot spring robes are – absolutely no desire to take photos in them!

GGuest UserThis hotel holds so much promise. Excellent location by Lake Akan. Staff were generally helpful and courteous although English not really understood here. The rooms with the Lake View had marvellous views but the condition of the room and bathroom were really In need of an upgrade or total retrofit. Furniture was worn out and sofas soft and sunk in. But the worst is the bathroom. The shower head was so tiny that you really could not take a shower in the room. The bathroom basin did not have a mixer thus you cant have proper warm water when needed. The basin and bathtub looks so old I do not think anyone would use it. The public bath was at most average. What irked ne was the inconsistency of the temperature of the shower water. Youre having a hot shower and the water will turn cold before turning back to hot again. Buffet breakfast was catered to tour groups and nothing to write home about. We were there 2 nights and breakfast was exactly the same stuff. Dinner was average at best. We just feel that Gozensui has so much potential. I would not stay here again unless I know of changes and improvements to its rooms and bathrooms.

GGuest UserWe took a tour bus directly to the New Akan Hotel. The hotel is very grand, and although it's a bit old, it's very well-maintained with a European-American style decor. I booked a Japanese-style lake view room in advance, and the size was definitely larger than what was stated in the description, at least 30+ square meters. The indoor and outdoor onsen, all-you-can-eat dining, and service were all excellent. The location is superb, close to both the onsen street and the ice mountain attractions. There are two minor drawbacks: the dinner includes a buffet yakiniku, and the smell can't be dissipated, so the entire public area smells like it... thankfully, the rooms are fine. Also, as many have mentioned, there are a lot of tour groups, all from Taiwan, so the hotel is crowded everywhere you go. You need to plan your meals and onsen visits to avoid peak times. Despite this, the hotel's order is still quite good. The internal shops are not tax-free. If I have the chance to come again, I would still choose this hotel, but I'd try to avoid the times when there are large tour groups, as the environment is quite important when you're on vacation!

The parking lot was spacious and the large public bath was nice, so I made a reservation without hesitation this time. It's just a short walk from the station, so I was able to see the marsh bell on the platform and the beautiful sunset.
The breakfast area was spacious and the morning sun streamed in through the glass windows, making it a great way to start the day. The staff were all very friendly, so I'd definitely like to return.
The view from my room was also great.

MMackey119It was conveniently located near Kushiro Station, so I stayed for one night. The room was modest and neither good nor bad, but there was no air conditioning, only a fan. Fortunately, it was cool outside on September 16th, so I was able to solve the problem by opening the window and turning on the fan, but I wouldn't recommend staying there in the middle of summer, like August.
