This fascinating new hotel is a converted prison, offering both cell-style and conventional rooms. It is located near the Japanese Garden in the centre of Kaiserslautern, at the edge of the Pfälzer Wald forest. Dating from 1867, the Alcatraz Hotel am Japanischen Garten is Germany’s first prison-hotel. In the cell-style rooms, guests can taste a little bit of prison life via barred windows, original prison beds (made by prison inmates), and even a washbasin and toilet in the room. Breakfast can be served through the hatch of the original prison door if you wish. A new à la carte restaurant opened in 2013. However, the cell-rooms of the Alcatraz Hotel are not without modern comforts, and each includes free wireless internet access. Those who prefer more conventional comforts may prefer the hotel rooms or suites. These feature an en suite bathroom. Wer mal ein „Einzelzellen-Erlebnis“ sucht, darf keinen Luxus erwarten … und dann ist AlcatraZ wirklich gut: einfachste Ausstattung, nur das Nötigste, saubere Zellen, simple (dennoch recht bequeme) Betten, Etagendusche, authentische Atmosphäre etc. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und das Frühstück ist vollkommen ok. Stille kann man in den Zellen nicht immer wirklich genießen, wenn morgens und abends die Nachbarn mit den schweren Eisentüren knallen oder sich unbedingt auf den Gängen wie laute, „rüpelige ********“ benehmen müssen. Nervig kann zu Stoßzeiten auch die Parkplatzsuche vor dem Knast werden - da geht’s eng zu. Mehr Info zur Geschichte des Hauses wäre schön. Wir mussten als Paar 2 getrennte Einzelzellen beziehen, aber fanden‘s wirklich lustig. Fazit: gerne mal wieder im ehemaligen Knast von K-Town.

My bus jad delayed and i missed the connection so asked hotel to about the possibility to change the date to the next day arrival. I received a confirmation of the date change. Was happy but…..Next day on the way to hotel received the cancelling of their confirmation!!! Had immidiatly to find another hotel. After this no money to me were returned ! I tried to ask them several times!
