Hollywood
I stayed at the W Hollywood for nine nights. The hotel is expensive, and I considered cheaper and more costly alternatives. You can get to West Hollywood quickly by bus and scooter, and the hotel is conveniently located above the Vine metro station, where you can get into downtown and to Santa Monica. You can hike up to the Griffith Observatory in the local area, about an hour from the hotel on foot. The lobby is outstanding, with lots of relaxing seating options. The room was brilliant and decidedly spacious, with a thoroughly comfortable mattress. There is a large desk to do work and eat food; I regularly requested plates and cutlery to eat delivery food in the hotel; in some instances, it came quickly, and in others, I had to phone several times for this. The hotel should address minor damage to the leather furnishings, such as scratches on the fridge cabinet. The fridge and cabinet are stocked with a considerable quantity of heavily overpriced goods costing several times what they cost in the supermarket. I asked staff to remove them so I could put my provisions in; a staff member told me that there is typically a fee for this but that they will waive it on this occasion. How generous of them! The shower room is spacious, but the bathroom products, although fantastic, are small and not replaced by cleaners as a matter of routine; I had to telephone the reception for additional shampoo and shower gel on several occasions. The shower head is fixed, and the water pressure is relatively low. My two main gripes are the television and the view; my view was of a wall about 10 m from the window. The selection of television channels is abysmal. All channels are from the US, and there isn't even a single channel in Spanish. W Hollywood is the only hotel I've been to abroad without foreign channels. Unfortunately, the hotel entrance, which leads to the Vine metro station, involves noticing some incredibly crude and objectionable behaviour. I saw adult men urinating and not being discreet about it metres from the entrance. There are many rough sleepers metres from the hotel entrance, which is sad and depressing. In one instance, I was dangerously threatened by a man that hassled me for twenty dollars as soon as I left the hotel entrance and walked down to the metro station; he was aggressive, and I was lucky that an altercation did not ensue. I spent my last afternoon by the hotel rooftop pool; this was the only time I purchased food at the hotel, and it was terrific, albeit overpriced. The pool is tiny, but there are stunning views of downtown, about 10 km from the hotel. When checking out, I rushed as I had to catch my return flight, so I quickly paid my bill by card. I realised I had a spare $34 in cash, which is useless to me at home. I asked a staff member if she would accept this cash and credit my card with the same amount. She said yes. This $34 has still not appeared on my card. I emailed the hotel not once, not twi

Westwood
We booked a 5 night stay on points and extended for an additional 3 nights. There is wonderful Ambassador status recognition and we were thrilled with our upgraded 2 bedroom suite that allowed us to feel very comfortable during our stay. The room used to be dorms so they are laid out more like apartments and spacious. One little detail that was great was there is a square on the shower door that you can turn on the water so the water can get warm and you don't have to risk getting wet! I wish all hotels (and homes) had this! The restaurant for breakfast is outdoors so it during our stay in late April/early May it was chilly most mornings, but they had plenty of heat lamps available. If you are using the $25 credit vouchers per person, per day with elite breakfast amenity know that you will be paying out of pocket as most things are ”LA priced” and you are responsible for taxes and gratuity. The restaurant on the first floor (STK Westwood) is rather fancy but the happy hour drink/food specials are great and worth doing early dinners. It was a little chilly for the pool, but it looked nice. The location notes ”West Beverly Hills” but you are really in Westwood which is a great neighborhood and right by UCLA. You are within walking to distance to restaurants, shopping, etc. The internet was fast and reliable. There was one large table with 4 chairs so we shared that as shared working space. Since we had two bedrooms we could use one of those for when we both had phone calls or zooms.
