Nantucket White House Inn

Perched along side a glamorous Harbor, the White Elephant (WE) serves as a perfect base for an island escape.It is a glitzy facility with a docking facility for the well endowed to park their yachts. Located close to downtown, it is a perfect spot to cash in on local retailers, boutiques and galleries. The WE is a multi-building complex with a number of accommodation options to choose from: in the main building select from a guest room, guest suite or a Harborview room or a Harborview suite. The garden cottages available in 1, 2, or 3 bedroom arrangements, are located next to the main building around a immaculate green lawn. The sizeable penthouse lofts are located in the downtown area. My Harborview guest suite was delightful with it's high plush king bed and light filled room. The surrounding decor was classic and mostly neutral with the coziness of Nantucket Island charm and subdued elegance with nautical touches. Brown headboards and plantation shutters were nifty accents. Incorporated in the room design was a reminder of it's history yet the chamber was modernized with high-tech appliances and a renovated bath. Capping everything off was fireplace capable of sporting an evening crackling fire. Service levels were very respectable. The Brant Point Grill specializes in seafood, steaks and stellar sunsets on the Nantucket Harbor and is a local favourite for an al fresco lunch, lobster dinner and Sunday Brunch. For breakfast I enjoyed the simplicity of fresh berries and for dinner I couldn't resist a lobster weighing in at 2 lbs. .......a decadent entree. Although the menu was chocked full of delicacies, I am a zealot for lobster and enjoyed the lobster chowder as well as the Brant signature drink in the form of a 'Lobster Bloody Mary' Amenities include the WE Spa which offers a 'serenity chamber' and 3 treatment rooms specializing in facials, massages and body treatments using natural ingredients. There is a cozy 1st floor library area and a small fitness centre. It is a pleasure to sit on the WE sprawling, well manicured lawn outfitted with white garden furniture and sun loungers and consume the view. A shuttle service jockeys guests to the many sweeping beaches. So, if you want as escape from the pangs of everyday life............then try the.............. White Elephant.........not really a White Elephant.
