Siamo giunti a Giza di primo mattino dopo un viaggio notturno di 12 ore in treno da Assuan e, non avendo prenotato un posto per dormire, ci siamo messi in cerca di una sistemazione e ci siamo imbattuti casualmente nel titolare di questa struttura che fin dal primo momento si è dimostrato cordiale e disponibile. Ci ha subito offerto uno sconto sulla tariffa per il pernottamento poiché non funzionava la Wi-Fi e ci ha detto che qualora avessimo avuto bisogno di internet per questioni urgenti ci avrebbe messo a disposizione l'hotspot del suo cellulare. La camera in cui abbiamo pernottato era abbastanza pulita e spaziosa, con un piccolo balcone da cui si aveva una vista mozzafiato sulle piramidi. Eravamo a meno di cinquanta metri dall'ingresso del sito! Il giorno dopo il titolare ci ha organizzato un tour per Saqqara e Dahsur, l'autista è stato anche lui carino e disponibile, oltre che di una pazienza infinita (io e mia moglie siamo molto lenti nel visitare i siti archeologici: a Saqqara ha dovuto attendere il nostro ritorno per più di tre ore sotto il sole cocente!) Inoltre, l'auto era pulitissima (cosa non scontata in un luogo in cui il vento trasporta continuamente sabbia). Sottolineo anche la sua onestà, non ha mai cercato di fare il furbo per spillarci più soldi (anche questo non è scontato: in Egitto la gente del luogo cerca continuamente di spennare i turisti.) La sera abbiamo cenato nel roof dell'albergo, noi siamo vegetariani e la moglie del titolare è riuscita a prepararci un delizioso pasto fatto di piatti tipici locali. Ho mangiato il felafel più buono della mia vita! Due giorni dopo siamo ripartiti: quando ci siamo salutati avevo le lacrime agli occhi e gli ho detto "maybe see you again". Spero davvero che le nostre strade possano incrociarsi ancora.
