An excellent hotel with fabulous service. Management was very attentive to our needs. Each morning breakfast was delivered to our door. Breakfast excellent. Hotel provided. us with towels and mats. for the beach as well as tiding up the room each day. This hotel is highly recommended.

The room is too small for a dresser or a closet. It has a basic 4’ metal clothes rack and no drawers for clothes. The shower is smaller than those in a camp trailer. Plus it is dangerously slippery. We frequently bumped our feet on its raised corner that was next to the toilet. The kitchenette was 3’ x 3’ and the sink faucet was loose, requiring two hands to use. A small simple breakfast offers only hard hard boiled eggs, day old croissants, some slices of cheese and ham was not serious. Our last hotel offered a real breakfast with scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, several yogurt flavors and more. In good conscience with my honest opinion, I 100% am against recommending the Hotel Victor Hugo in Nice, France.

This hotel is in a perfect location, just a short walk from the Promenade des Anglais, 15 minutes from the train station and all other attractions are within easy reach. Our room was traditional and spacious with a big bed, shower and kitchenette. Gilles the owner is especially helpful, friendly and personable. Breakfast is simple and served in a small room where you can meet other guests. It was a testament to this hotel and Gilles that other guests had returned many times. It was our first time in Nice, and will definitely return. One tip the taxi from the airport was €46, even though the flat fare was supposed to be €30, it’s worth getting the shuttle which drops you at the end of Rue Cronstadt €2.

A really great stay with a very pleasant, welcoming host. The hotel is a home from home and well situated, being close to the main railway station and bus stops as well as just a 2 minute walk from the tram stop with frequent services to and from the airport. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much. Gilles was very friendly and attentive, and helped with advice of where to go and what to see. It is a charming hotel with a small number of rooms, so the continental breakfast can be taken in your room if you prefer. Very close to a tram station but also walking distance from the Promenade des Anglais. Would definitely recommend.

The hotel is perfectly located in a beautiful boulevard and directly opposite a local park and a tram stop for the airport. A very short walk to the Promenade des Anglais and the seafront. Very conveniently located for the main shopping area and close proximity to an abundance of restaurants. The hotel provided excellent service by Gillies and Corsette who were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was really very good too! A comfortable room with all facilities including a small kitchenette, comfortable bed, good air-conditioning, TV and fast Wi-Fi. We enjoyed a very good 6 night holiday at the Victor Hugo and we would certainly choose this hotel again on our next trip to Nice.

The Victor Hugo is a quirky Hotel with several advantages. It is very secure, the aircon is fantastic and breakfast surprisingly good for such a small hotel (7/8 bedrooms) Amazingly enough beach towels were available which saved us €14 on the beach . We enjoyed our stay

One of the worst hotel, if you call it a hotel. It is rooms in an apartment building. The manager told us we would be sleeping on the streets if we would have been 5 mins later. Who says that? We travel all around the world and this is the worst experience ever. DO NOT GO THERE!!! It is a hostel not a hotel!!! The lights were always off see the pictures. The place was misty and sticky and stunk…the parking garage was a dungeon and was pitch dark (black picture). I am surprised Trip Advisor and Amex work with them. If you care about your travelers you will not keep them on board. It was dirty and tons of mosquitoes.

For European travel I’ve found books written by Rick Steves to be invaluable. In May my wife and I traveled to Provence and looking for Rick’s hotel recommendations for Nice one was the Hotel Victor Hugo. His description noted a small hotel run by the owner Gilles and a 10 minute walk to the famous beachfront which has many restaurants. I booked a 4 night stay. Our stay was wonderful and Gilles who speaks English was a delightful and helpful host. A buffet breakfast is included and here we enjoyed meeting people and sharing travel information with people from around the globe. The hotel is located on ground floor of a 6 story 19th century former mansion and in a neighborhood of 19th century former mansions. Across the street is a beautiful park with a fountain, statues, and a playground were we enjoyed a picnic lunch.
