B&B Hotel Ouistreham

Lovely, clean, comfortable hotel. Ideally situated for the ferry ⛴️

The hotel is quiet and the rooms are comfortable. The only problem with this hotel is that if you catch a ferry that arrives in France at 10 pm, the hotel reception will have closed. The only way in is to check in through an outside computer and when we arrived, there was seven groups ahead of us attempting to get in. We queued for half an hour to be able to get him through the front door.

In all my years in the travel industry, I have never experienced anything like it! Myself and a colleague arrived at the hotel from a Brittany Ferry service from Portsmouth at about 4.00pm and found reception had closed and entry to the hotel not available as the doors were locked. The only way to access ones room was to obtain a code from using the bank of machines in the pre-lobby area instructions for which were mainly in French. The system would not accept the '*******' reservation number and you had to speak to a remote 'Help' centre who found the reservations and gave you their own 9 digit reservation number which you had to input and then use the debit card machine again in the porch area to pay for the room in full. Once you had completed this onerous task you were given a second 6 digit number which allowed you to open the door and access the hotel. This same code was used to open your room door. All very complicated and annoying with a queue of other ferry travellers behind you. The rooms were VERY basic with linoleum on the floor and no soap in the washbasin area of the bathroom. There was no restaurant and the only positive thing was the buffet breakfast the next morning. B&B Hotels are apparently a chain of over 300 properties and given the dreadful check-in experience, both myself and colleague said we would avoid ever using B&B Hotels Group in the future.
