A very beautiful castle hotel. The dinner was also very good. It is worth staying here to feel the history of the castle and leave it with such grandeur. However, the rooms are a bit old.

Food a little disappointing at breakfast especially continental. Nice staff throughout hotel. Fabulous room and setting.

Have stayed here before so thought we knew what to expect…sadly disappointing this time. First “grumble” was that, in advance of our visit I contacted the Hotel as I have mobility problems. I was told I would be allocated an accessible room but on arrival found 8 very steep steps between the lift and our corridor (room 107). In fairness I managed the steps with a degree of difficulty but do feel that at the time of me asking. I should have been asked for more details as it was a real struggle. I do appreciate fully accessible rooms are in short supply but a little customer service does a lot to avoid disappointment. I’m really sad to say that breakfast was really disappointing compared to last time. Although there was an adequate continental the cooked. Breakfast was meagre and stone cold. We had been told we could only have breakfast at 8am and were the first in the restaurant but mushrooms were absolutely cold. I think you could upgrade to a larger cooked breakfast for an extra £5 but not really the point. Next (and most significant) was our room. It was a bit tired but I expected that from a previous visit but was actually very dirty. I am allergic to house dust and, on getting into bed, started wheezing very badly. I discovered the reason which was the bedside table which was thick in weeks of dust. Please see picture. Finally, when checking out they tried to charge us again for food that should have been included. In summary we were on a deal which we’d paid £119 for but was marketed at being worth £300. It definitely wasn’t worth much more than we paid, £40 per couple for food plus you can book a room for £95 but I wouldn’t have minded that if the room hadn’t been so dirty. On checking out I mentioned the issues and they said they bring the dirty room to housekeepings attention but there was no interest in how they could make this right. We don’t need “freebies” but it would have been nice if we’d felt they cared that we were disappointed. Hopefully future guests will have a better experience but that does little to make up for our disappointment.

Booked a mid week 1 night break through Secret Escapes. Beautiful location. Staff friendly and helpful.Room was good but looked tired- in need of decoration. Evening meal on the Brasserie was good but choice was restricted due to the non availability of a significant main course. Breakfast was good but hot choice could have been hotter. Buffet choice was limited and was restricted due to it not being replenished regularly. These are minor points .

Attended for a wedding. Staff chaotic. Room not ready but made us take bags back to car in torrential rain wearing wedding outfits. Charged £25 corkage per bottle of champagne, but after initial glasses, no glasses at all. £200 room but wanted extra £6 if you wanted smoked salmon or eggs benedict, or avocado! No one told us there was a cold buffet in second room at breakfast. When we found it ourselves it was pretty empty! Rationed to 1 glass of juice. Coffee drunk before food appeared. ( not worth the wait). Member of staff SO rude to one of young waiting staff at breakfast it was disgracefull. I enjoyed the wedding The venue is beautiful for a wedding ( restaurant for public dining soul less). Arranged late 12.30 checkout (£25) as husband had extremely important video meeting.... which was then disturbed by cleaners, then a bloody phone call from reception to inform us checkout was 10.30. Staff clearly do not communicate. Beautiful venue chaotic staff.

Stayed for one night. Nice facade and gardens. We were given our room key 602 and direct, down the corridor, up the stairs, turn left up the strairs, turn left up the stairs etc etc. actually it was 105 steps to room 602 in the tower, the last set of stairs being a stone spiral stairway. The room was cold and uninviting, old furniture, large comfortable bed. My concern was the fire escape was basically back down the stone spiral stairway, and maze of turns and stairs there is no way anyone would get out in the event of an emergency! Bistro was dark, yes I know it’s a castle but people had to use the torches on their phones to see the menu! Food was fine but overpriced. The cellar bar was again dark and dank with no atmosphere. Breakfast was served in the restaurant which was lovely and the breakfast was very nice. All the staff we encountered were very nice, helpful and friendly. Would I stay again? No, with hindsight I should have asked for a different room as I spent a very anxious night worrying about the lack of fire escape! If you do decide to stay and are given a room starting with a 6, refuse it and ask for a different room! I’m not even sure these rooms should even be let out

Our gift was an afternoon tea for two here. Our expectations where quite high due to the venue but the tea was disapointing. There was not a selection of teas to choice from. Sandwiches very nice cakes ok but the scones where so small and probably the worst I've ever had with and aftetnoon tea. Knife was not the cleanest and my teapot lid was dirty. There was not further communication from the waitress during or tea nor any extra tea offered. The waitress was very nice taking our order and saying goodbye. All in all we rate it 5.5 out of 10

Overpriced, we stayed for a wedding. Wedding itself was lovely however we were not very impressed to be told we couldn’t have breakfast until 10:15 the next day- 15 minutes before check out time. We asked if we could be refunded for breakfast as ideally wanted to leave before 10 and the answer was no. Next morning someone was hoovering outside the door at 8am - perhaps not unreasonably early but then given I couldn’t have any breakfast till gone 10 I was aiming to sleep in a bit longer. When we got to breakfast there was nothing left on the buffet. A fair few of the hot options have extra charges associated although a normal full English is available along with poached eggs or porridge. Very average in quality. Unable to have a juice and hot drink without paying an extra charge. I have had much better stays at much cheaper hotels. Unfortunately I think this hotel realises when it hosts weddings people are likely to pay to stay to save arranging transport to alternative hotels and rely on this to get the bookings as opposed to good service. I would advise if you are a guest at a function consider alternative accommodation.
