We were in awe of this home. So much to explore and so much history! Loved the thick granite walls and original wooden doors/shutters with hardware, antiques and displays everywhere, beautiful view, and even a pool. It is situated in a quaint little area by a church and you can easily walk down to the river. The area around Ponte da Barca is absolutely beautiful and fun to explore. The hosts are very friendly and offered a lovely breakfast.

Wonderful place and genuine hospitality. This ‘house’ is more like a miniature castle, stuffed with antiques, curios and paraphernalia of times past. It has personality in spades and will remain in your memory. The photos give you a good idea. We absolutely loved it. The best aspect however was the lady working there, Céu, who is just a delight: so friendly, warm, chatty and couldn’t do enough for you, including cooking delicious cakes for breakfast. She reminded me of being back in my home country of Ireland. Ponte da Barca is small but perfectly formed, with a river beach and famous bridge and a bigger version, equally beautiful, Ponte de Lima, is just down the road. A treasure of a place for those who are happy to forego the modern in favour of character and history.

Fabulous historic hotel in the centre. Full of character. Spotlessly clean. The housekeeper is outstanding and super focussed on guest experience. We loved it

Limpeza do quarto Ótima!...Mas...

It was a unique experience to stay in a 500 year old property. Breakfast was okay and the service and hospitality were fantastic.

It was a one night stay. The house is very old and beautiful. We stayed in a suite with a pyramid-shaped wooden ceiling. It would have been perfect if at 2am we hadn't woken up to a bat (a big one) that was repeatedly coming in and out of the cracks in the wooden ceiling, certainly in need of work! We spent the night awake without sleeping at all, with the bat flying around the room all night!!! As it is not a hotel, it does not have 24-hour service. I tried calling the numbers provided at the house and no one answered! Unbelievable! I've never been through a situation like this! And without any response or compensation from the house management who simply said that as we had a small dog, the bat was attracted to the dog!!!! Unprecedented!! What is certain is that attracted or not, the ceiling has cracks through which bats, or any other insects or crawling creatures can pass... I don't recommend it! Unless you like sleeping in a room with bats and who knows what else!

What we appreciated most was that there was no television in the rooms. The atmosphere of the house takes us back to a time when there were no combustion engines or daily rushes. For a moment I thought the horse was downstairs waiting for a ride. Breakfast is not brunch but it's enough to last until lunch. The church bell starts ringing at 8am including Sundays. The pool is smaller than it looks in the photos...but that's always the case, isn't it?
