I think this was my fourth stay at Hidden Acres, but this will likely be my last. Outside: The decks need paint and repair, with peeling paint that sticks to your shoes/feet. The window in our cabin must have had an issue, as between the panes of glass, there was some sort of sealant that dripped, locking like bird droppings flung all over the glass. There was also some sort of flying insect making a home in wood below the door. When sitting on the deck, I would often see them flying in frequently and not leaving. Inside: The carpet in the living area was old. I wore shoes throughout the stay. The kitchen was stocked with dishes and pots and pretty much everything you needed. There were some cupboards that needed cleaning though, with larder beetle casings and larvae in one cupboard. There were also red ants coming out the wall by the door one morning. There were probably more than 50 - not just a couple of random wandering ants. On a positive note, the bathrooms had been updated with new showers, flooring, and toilets, and they were clean with good water pressure. There was a daily towel service, but there weren't enough towels provided. 4 bath towels for 5 people isn't adequate. Yard/Overall Property The pool is great. It is starting to show its age, but it is a huge asset for the property, much like the small playgrounds, volleyball net, and firepits. As another poster mentioned, there was a general look of unkeptness on the grounds - unweeded gardens, long grass, piles of items around, etc. Staff: The staff are very friendly, but it was difficult to speak to anyone about an issue, as there was never anyone at the office when needed, so we dealt with issues we had. This included taking the second key from the board in the unoccupied office, finding raid for the ants, and doing some extra cleaning. We waited for a long time to get a second key and eventually took it from rack ourselves - which didn't seem very secure to not have it monitored. I wondered if they may be having difficulty with staffing levels, like many businesses are. My hope is that they start to put some major work into their existing cabins and take a little more care with the overall experience. This property has great potential! Please note: I have never stayed in a newer or renovated cabin. The pictures from these cabins look like a huge improvement, so my review is based on the older cabins. I can understand that Fiona likely slowed any plans for updates, but I was disappointed in the current state of this property and the decline over the years.
