Baldi Hot Springs Hotel & Spa

Amazing amazing amazing! I want to go back already! Hot springs were amazing, I love the option of having at least one of the hot springs open 24/7, they change it each night for cleaning purposes, they’re very strict on the towels, each one is literally accounted for otherwise there is a fee per towel, no big deal as long as you keep track, didn’t really need to carry a towel around anyway, the only downside I’d have to say was the Italian restaurant was much better then the buffet option, also the slides are pretty intense, I actually hurt my foot on one of them, but it didn’t stop the fun. Wish I were back there!
Hotel Arenal Lodge
4.1/541 Reviews
We had an amazing time at Arenal Lodge! We traveled as a family of 4 and spent the first half of our trip at Arenal Lodge and the last half at an all-inclusive along the coast! This location was by far our favorite! On arrival, we were upgraded to a family suite - two connecting rooms, one with 2 queen beds and 1 with a king bed. The beds were quite comfortable. Each room had a balcony facing the Arenal volcano. We (luckily) had amazing views of the volcano each morning/day! The lodge itself is a little outdated but we somewhat expected that due to the location. The pool was not clean when we arrived but by the next day, it was clear! We were not as lucky with the 2 hot tubs – they remained dirty and unusable for our stay. However, they were not a necessity with the temperatures! Falling asleep to all the sounds of nature and animals took a little getting used to, but was surprisingly relaxing. We enjoyed a late-night rainstorm, which was amazing! The drive to the lodge from the main road is cobblestone, quite windy, and takes roughly 15 minutes. I would recommend renting a car for your trip. It is difficult to obtain a ride into La Fortuna, which is roughly 20 minutes away, and you will be charged an extra fee from excursion companies to make the trek up to the lodge for pick-ups. The lodge does have a transport van but this is for staff use on the property grounds. We ate in the restaurant each night – there was not a large selection of items but each item we ordered was good. The bar area has large windows that open and occasionally green tree frogs make their way inside! We spent time each day on the balcony, talking and enjoying the spectacular view, playing pool in the bar, and taking in a very different culture from our everyday life! It was an amazing experience, to say the least!
Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails
4.6/5101 Reviews
We are so glad we chose the Arenal Observatory Lodge for our visit to Arenal in February 2023. If you have a car and want to be as close to Arenal as possible, come here. You'll be away from the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna with an extensive proprietary trail network from which you can spot all sorts of wildlife (we saw a yellow pit viper among other things) and come across waterfalls and swimming holes. The place seems to be hotspot for birdwatchers where you can see countless birds including Toucans which we spotted too. The property is not luxury, but it's comfortable, and gets you out into nature. There's a swimming pool and hot tub that we used once since we were more interested in getting out and about. We did buy a day pass at The Springs Hotel & Resort, but were so glad we didn't stay there. One of the unexpected highlights of our visit to the Arenal Observatory Lodge was our wonderful dinners at their onsite restaurant. After a long day of adventure, the ambience was comfortable, the service friendly, and the food variety and quality satisfying a fair-priced. We ate breakfast there daily and dinner three times. We would definitely return again to this property when we return to Arenal.
Hotel Las Colinas

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as part of a trip with GAdventures booked through trail finders in the UK. We were checked in to what I think must have been the worst room in the hotel. It was at the back and over looked a side alley. We quickly showered and went to meet our group for dinner. When we got back, we noticed this god- damn awful smell which was coming from the drains and the water hadn't drained from our shower a few hrs earlier. Drains are notoriously bad across CR. We went to reception and the guy couldn't have cared less. We insisted he come and smell for himself. Well, he just couldn't have been more patronising or belittling. He said he couldn't smell it, he accused us of 'just showering' when we showed him the water and refused to do anything ie is clear the smell or move us. He said quite clearly numerous times, the hotel was full. We were left with no choice than to contact our Rep. Strangley enough we were given a different and much better room immediately. When we left, a lady came to our bus, thanked us for our custom and said they are a family run hotel. Clearly explained why the chap on reception couldn't give a hoot - he was hardly going to be sacked! Young ish guy, curly hair tied back in a pony tail. Poor Ester who came to say goodbye has no idea. He best things about this hotel are the friendly staff in the bar below, the view of the volcano from the terrace, and its only a shirt walk from the best place to eat in town- the rainforest cafe opposite (and Andreas is the best server!) but apart from that, I'd avoid it at all costs
Hotel Magic Mountain Spa & Conference Center
4.2/544 Reviews
I’ll caveat my title by saying I had to request a room move to achieve this as our original (superior) room was side facing overlooking a small copse of trees! So a big thanks to the main man behind reception (apologies, I’ve forgotten your name) for accommodating a room change for the remaining 3 nights of our 4 night trip, overlooking the pool & directly facing the magical volcano. The hotel itself is a little tired in places but it offers a nice pool (with a wet bar) to relax in after all those day hikes & the selection of food at the inclusive breakfast buffet is pretty good on the whole, with an omelette chef on hand. There’s also a rooftop sports bar on site for anyone up for a late night beer (be warned, we found d La Fortuna to close down early of a night & were even refused entry in a bar/restaurant as early as 21.30 !!). What we did like about this hotel is that it’s a little out of the town centre but all the attractions seemed to be on that side of town ie. The Volcano Park, Mistico Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall & Eco-Termales Hot Springs (see my other reviews) which meant shorter transfers. Also Uber is available & super cheap in Colones currency so don’t fall for the expensive taxis in USD.
Casa Luna Hotel & Spa

We stayed here for 5 nights during our honeymoon and had a fantastic stay. Our room was so peaceful and we had a wonderful view of the volcano. They had left us some gorgeous chocolate covered strawberries for our honeymoon when we arrived! The pool area was great, staff all super friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a beautiful setting with so much wildlife around.
