Staff at the front desk was a bit dismissive and parking costs $20/night. Breakfast not included but there’s a restaurant on site.
Pros:
- great location, close to attractions, restaurants, shops
- Wifi works well
- rooms are relatively clean however I found a few hairs here and there
- rooms are spacious enough
- Check-in is at 4pm officially but our room was ready at 2pm so we could check in
- mini fridge in room
- the hotel is nicely furnished and decorated
- 24-hour fitness center
- 2 complimentary bottles of water
- Coffee machine in the room
Cons:
- staff at the front desk could’ve been friendlier
- bed too soft and pillows too thick
- A/C didn’t work properly—the room was either ice cold or hot

I've stayed here in the Renaissance a couple of other times prior to this, and overall, enjoyed my stay. That said, although there was good service, I feel like things are starting to slip, making it more along the lines of a 2 or 3 star hotel, not a 4 star. And it was little things like my water pressure in my shower was horrible, the shower basin flooded, as the drain must have been clogged, and there was peeling paint around the light fixture in the shower. Additionally, the bedside lamp attached to the wall was sagging, so it gave the impression of being a bit ghetto. My bed was okay, but not amazing, and the seating furniture seemed a bit worn. I know it has to be hard to run a 4 star hotel and keep things up to standard, but just from these things being a part of my experience didn't rock my world while there, but I did expect more from the Renaissance and it's 4 star hotel rating.

Rarely leave reviews. This place deserves it. It was all so perfect for a couples weekend. Pool and deck was gorgeous with great views. The hotel is close to all downtown. Every sitting area throughout the hotel was done to perfection. You can spend a full weekend just in this hotel and it’s amenities if you wanted. The club room was an added bonus with great service. When they didn’t have the drink I wanted at the club bar, Dan went out and got it for me. 5 star service and hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised after reading the various reviews on this hotel. We attended a birthday party for a relative. The party was in one of their private rooms with a bartender. The plated food (chicken or salmon) was excellent.) The hotel rooms were clean and in good condition. And, the beds were extremely comfortable. I was really impressed with the handicapped accessible room that we needed for my husband. It was large with a really huge bathroom. The staff was the reason that I gave this hotel a four-star review. They were friendly and readily accessible when we needed information or support. A special thank you to one of the bell captains who brought a wheeled cart to take over forty gift bags down to the party room. Again, good service. Coming from a metropolitan area, I am comfortable giving tips for service. We also enjoyed the hotel restaurant. The menu was large enough with a great breakfast buffet. The food was very tasty and varied. There was made to order omelets included with the brunch. It was the first time that I saw smoked salmon and grits on a breakfast buffet, but it made me happy. We ate a number of lunches at the same restaurant. Their Nicoise salad was excellent, very well priced, with a piece of cooked-to-order tuna. It was beautifully plated and delicious. The drinks from the bar were not over-priced. The cocktails were excellent. We didn't have cars and quickly could have Ubers drive us to different sites. I'd return if in the area.

My family and I liked it very much after staying for one night, so we stayed for another night. The room is big enough, clean and comfortable, there are many guests with pets and children. Sometimes there are pets barking or children running around in the hallway, but overall it is quiet. The whole hotel is small and delicate, elegant everywhere, even the back stairs are clean, covered with thick carpets and perfumed. Simple breakfast buffet.

I stayed here on a girl's trip to Charleston and was also able to use American Express points which was a bonus. (It was a LOT of points but the nightly room rate was quite high so I expected that). The hotel is beautiful, quiet but cool vibe, very understated. My room, while small, was quiet, well appointed (gorgeous chandelier) and the bed was SO comfortable. One thing I thought strange was that there were no in room coffee or espresso options. They did have a morning coffee self service stand in the lobby which was fine. There were also no places to grab a quick bite to eat to take on the go which would have been convenient. Two of the mornings I was there I didn't have time to either order room service or go sit in the lounge to order breakfast so I ended up eating a granola bar that I had with me since I was meeting people for other activities. The service across the board was excellent. The views from the Citrus Club were beautiful although service there seemed to be way too slow and the whole key card/wait for entry didn't quite seem necessary as we had to wait twenty minutes to get up there and found it 50% full (maybe a staffing issue?). Regardless, it is a lovely hotel, a block off of King Street. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely, well-appointed, comfortable hotel. The room was clean and the location is great - you can walk everywhere. Loved the breakfast basket each morning - really unique idea. Housekeeping was great as well - room was cleaned and set up each day and coffee maker was restocked each morning. Comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. I stayed in a Studio but it was bigger than my apartment! Only downside: sometimes sharing the elevators with 7th Floor rooftop goers was a bit of a concern, but I would just wait for the next elevator and no USB ports in the room. Will definitely stay here again and highly recommend to others - just will remember to bring an extra charger.

YyitangshaoThe French Quarter Inn provided us with the perfect base for exploring Charleston for the first time. The Inn is beautiful, clean and historical. The included morning breakfast was exceptional as well as the evening happy hour. The location of the inn is perfect for walking the entire downtown area and there are a number of exceptional restaurants nearby. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was small but efficient and the bathroom was large. Bedding was extremely comfortable with a variety of soft, fluffy pillows! Highly recommend!
DDominick79The hotel has a good location, located in the center of Charleston. The pedestrian street and the center are on the side. You can see many attractions when you go out for a walk. The central market is also within walking distance. The hotel itself is also a historical and cultural hotel named in the United States. It is registered, so its quality is guaranteed. The rooms are large and the facilities are complete, but the building itself is not so perfect after a few years. The front desk clerk is of high quality, good attitude, typical gentleman demeanor, so you are very comfortable, and you can relax and drink in the lobby...Although breakfast is a set meal, you can set it according to your needs, even You can have more points, the waiter is very friendly, I want to tip...recommend this hotel, I will book next time
GGuest UserAtmosphere is gorgeous. Very classy. Rooms are spacious but the downside is the view isn't the best. Minimal views of the city but maybe I just picked the wrong room! Staff was accommodating and very helpful. Would definitely return! Location is great for access to the shops and restaurants.
GGuest UserThis was no doubt at one time a wonderful Inn. Now unfortunately it is showing it’s age and has an air of neglect about it. There were several positives: very spacious accommodations, lovely grounds and easy walk ability to the formal Gardens of Middleton Place, view from our second floor room looked like we were in a tree house elevated along the canopy of the Oaks. This weekend trip was a belated birthday present from my husband and he bought a package. There was a huge, gorgeous flower arrangement in the room along with a cold bottle of Prosecco in the frig. The package included dinner at the Middleto Place restaurant which was lovely. Now for the reason for the 3 stars. This is a very expensive place to go for a weekend but I don’t mind the money if everything is appropriate for the cost. Our first impression when we entered the room was that it smelled strongly of bug spray. And that smell lingered all weekend. But even with that we had a couple infamous Palmetto bugs in various states of death throes and the little inch worms and flying bugs that seemed like fire flies didn’t seem phased by the spray. When we shared this with the desk the response was, well we are in the woods. The windows take up an entire wall and would be stunning if they were cleaned. Again the woods and humidity must make it challenging but for the price I would expect more. The paneling was showing its age as well and the sofa and overstuffed chair. The room was huge and we could have danced but it only had a queen sized bed which looked smaller because of the room size. The mattress sank terribly in the middle and every time one of us moved we ended back up in the middle. A breakfast buffet was included and it was also a bit neglected. On the bright side it looked like they were renovating the unit next to us so hopefully they will return this place to its original glory. I would try it again if I knew it was in an updated room, and during the off season when prices are better.
ZZHANGMEIThe environment of the hotel is very good, the air is fresh and the environment is beautiful. Opposite the room is the harbor where the yachts dock. Going out for dinner is a bit awkward, and there is no problem with driving. However, the hotel has a shuttle bus to and from the city center, so overall it is ok.
DDave PGorgeous hotel with welcoming staff and spacious, clean, quiet, comfortable rooms. The Starbucks cafe downstairs is a great touch. My biggest complaint was the lazy valet workers out front who saw us pull up and didn’t care. They just kept talking to each other and we finally had to approach them to get any service. Other than that, we had a great sleep over the last couple nights and have been very happy here and it’s centrally located and nearby the market.
GGuest UserThis is an older property that clearly used to be majestic. Today the frame is there but a lack of maintenance shows. The staff were very good. They also have a 24 hour valet. My room had nice high quality furniture - not the cheap crap see in most hotels today. But the carpets were old and dirty, the paint is worn and cracked, and there was mold in the bathroom. The A/C was ok - not great but ok. The room felt humid. But it was very quiet with no street noise or hallway noise. They serve a decent breakfast. The location on Market St is close enough to the action to explain the rates. If this property was out by the airport it would be $59/night. Overall, if being on Market St is important then it's fine. But if a clean and shiny hotel is important this isn't the place. Bottom line, I'd stay here again if I needed to be in the area. Mostly because of location and staff. Without that I wouldn't return.
