I genuinely don't know where to start with this one as it was such a bad experience. We were up in Stoke-on-Trent to visit the Titanic Brewery and the George was the closest hotel in terms of walking distance to the brewery. Now, we had stayed here before and overlooked the quirks the hotel had at the time (2017). However, this occasion could be overlooked as it was without a doubt the worst experience I have had regarding a hotel and I have stayed in a few dodgy ones during my 50 years on this planet. So, buckle up! Here comes my review: Arrived a little early and usually the car-park gates were open and you could drive in and park up with no issue. However, the gates were firmly shut so we had to navigate the one-way system to get back to the hotel. Finally parked up next to the hotel on the street. My wife and friend went to see whether we could check-in. When they arrived the front door was firmly locked and it was starting to look as though the hotel had permanently closed. It turns out you have to now ring a bell. So, they rang the bell and the door opened. Asking whether they could check in they were abruptly told "No, it's not 2 pm yet" It was a case of waiting around until 2 pm before we could do anything. Finally, 2 pm came and we rang the bell. First impressions usually count and really we shouldn't have carried on further. The steps up to the door can only be described as trip hazards and dangerous. The door opened answered by who I assumed was a member of staff. On entering the smell of dampness hit the nose and the floors were dusty as anything and were in dire need of a ruddy good clean. I don't think even Kim or Aggie would have been able to help at this hotel. We were all asked for an ID card which we thought was a bit random but, we duly did as we were asked. The keys were thrown at us along with our ID no "have a good stay" or directions to where the rooms were. Eventually, we stumbled across them and walked into the room. We left our friends to find their room which was just around the corner. Our room was large with a 4-poster bed but, that's the best bit. There was an inch of dust on the furniture, I don't think this room had been cleaned in a very long time. 2 lights above the bed which you had to move to access the switches. 1 light worked and one didn't have a light bulb in it at all. The mattress was just a piece of foam cut to size and this had mold on it. It had no mattress cover just the sheet on top. No thanks we were not going to sleep on that so had to sleep on the duvet instead. The flat-screen TV was just for show as there was no power to it at all and no remote control either. The bathroom light worked when it wanted to. Coffee and tea-making fees were awful as well. In the bathroom, the shower was broken and you could just about get a shower out of it but it really wasn't worth it. When we asked our friends what their room was like. They mentioned that they couldn't use the shower as the floor leak
