The Dog & Doublet Inn

We arrived around 4pm outside on narrowboat to discover very empty moorings and pub closed! BUT 5pm came pub opened and boy was the food worth waiting for just amazing Thia Green curry. We had heard 3yrs ago that it was worth a stop if we were ever up this way again. Great staff, great food, and great mooring. Thank you.

Likes to hype its canalside location which is indeed very pretty. Website states unequivocally that food is served until 8pm Friday to Sundays. We were on holiday in a canal boat. They do 4mph flat out so once you choose a pub to aim for, after mid afternoon, you are pretty well committed. We arrived at 7.20pm and all the staff were very surprised that we wanted food since apparently the Landlord always stops serving food at 6pm on Sundays. Obviously 'Landlord' was 'upstairs' and unavailable. My plea that we had relied on their website and now had no way to eat since we could not get to the next or last pub in time was met with verbal shrugs. Lots of apologies but nothing which was helpful. The entirety of the response was that the staff would tell the Landlord, the Internet is not something the staff use and the Landlord uses a website company so it's all somebody else's fault. I fully accept the staff aren't to blame. The Landlord is entirely responsible. Maybe they could have offered us some sandwiches or anything they could rustle up with little effort but alas we were repeatedly told 'sorry but it's the Landlord'. I've no idea what the food is like, but the service is appalling. In the end we managed to get a pizza delivered to the pub car park.

This is a traditional pub located on the canal in beautiful surroundings. The staff and management are very helpful and friendly, and always willing to help in any way possible. The pub has regular music events and there is a Marquee where many events are held. They serve delicious home made food and there are a good variety of vegan and gluten free options. There is a choice of English food and also amazing Chinese food . Prices are very reasonably and the quality of food is excellent. It is child and dog friendly too. A great pub!

We didn't use the bar or try the food so are only commenting on the accommodation. Unfortunately this was dreadful. The smell of damp was overwhelming so we opened the window but someone was smoking outside the window. Dried poo on the toilet bowl and a damaged shower revealing soil and bricks suggested a lack of cleanliness and care. We left.

The pub is highly recommended , you must try it.. Excellent for its Abbots Ale. Can't recommended enough their steak & ale pie. & Lasagne. The staff are very friendly and 100% good service. Going back on Sunday for lunch Can't wait if tonight's is anything to go by. A good pub fora meal down by the canal and a nice walk from the kingsbury camping and caravan club site.

Staff were so friendly, especially the bar man that served us (can’t remember his name). The battered cod dish was sensational, very tasty. Service was quick and a lovely relaxing environment. Would highly recommend!!

We went here for a few drinks and my girlfriend ate. They have a good range of taps and spirits. The food was top notch, really authentic South East Asian cuisine. Service was great and staff are friendly and attentive. The landlady even gave us ice to take back to our boat.

Beautiful location and warm friendly welcome,the food is absolutely amazing and fair priced,we were staying at brook Marston farm for night and there was a wedding reception on and told us restaurant was closed so we walked here for couple of drinks and food,and in hindsight wish we had booked room here instead but next time we come up for weekend break will definitely book room here

Really friendly staff. Had a lovely meal. Best steak I have ever had. My husband had the homemade pie which was amazing. Beautiful location by the canal but can’t see it from the road. Could do with signs on the road
