What can we say other than fabulous stay. The room was amazing as were the staff. Dinner…one of the best meals ever (no exaggeration). If planning a stay in Swellendam do yourself a favour and stay here. You won’t regret it if only because of the unexpected hot water bottles at turndown and the car being washed before we left!!

We had a lovely stay during our honeymoon. The hotel is gorgeous and staff faultless! The small touches are what really made this hotel 5 star, from the hot water bottle put under the duvet during the turndown service to the complimentary car clean during breakfast. You don’t know what luxury is until you have stayed at Schoone Oortt. Thank you Alison and the team!

What a beautiful boutique guesthouse! The family and staff go above and beyond to make sure your stay is perfect. Wonderful food and fantastic service - couldn’t fault it. It was cold while we were there - so a fire in the bedroom was lit and hot water bottles put in our beds to our surprise On departure - they had even washed our car!!

Absolutely stunning guest house. Really lovely rooms. Afternoon tea on arrival was perfect. Staff and hosts utterly charming. Couldn’t do enough for us. The story books of the history of the house were great and very interesting. Dinner in the conservatory was delicious and enjoyed by all four of us who each had a different dish. A 3 course breakfast the next morning was just as good. Would highly recommend!

Our friends and we spent two nights here. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are big. The bathrooms do require some TLC, however the owners and the staff still make it a five star property! Best part was the complimentary car wash. Much appreciated! We met the owner Alison Walker. She and the staff go out of their way to accommodate their guests' needs. We were there in Winter so the place was nearly empty one night. They smartly reduced their staff that night but it did make for a very slow dinner. The location is fabulous. We walked multiple times to the downtown for meals and to shop in the boutique shops. The rooms were very well serviced with thoughtful turndown service. Suggestion: given the inexpensive mini-bar in the rooms, consider making it complimentary. It will be a nice wow factor. The complimentary tea, cookies etc. hit the spot. Another suggestion is to improve the quality of the scotch whisky in the main bar, just a wee bit!

The entrance is via an automated gate.with access by intercom. We were greeted by Callum who directed us to an alternative entrance closer to our room. Once settled into our lovely room, we enjoyed scones and jam on the outside terrace at the front of the house. As it was cold, We were asked if we would like our woodburning stove lit that evening. As we only wanted something light to eat we did not dine in the restaurant but used the Republic, a 5 min walk away. On return we used the heaters to warm the room so when turndown service arrived we had no need for the fire. However, it quickly became apparent that the heated towel rail and underfloor heating was not working in the bathroom and despite efforts to rectify this they would not work. We were quickly moved to the family room next door. This accommodation is enormous with entrance hall, lounge with 2 sofas and bed, a separate bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds, toilet and bathroom. The lounge leads out to a large balcony with table and chairs. This accommodation did not have the luxury feel of our original room and looked in need of refurbishment. However, it would adequately meet the needs of a family. The staff were very friendly and wanted to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay. It was a lovely touch to have hot water bottles to warm the beds. Make sure you have a good appetite to make the most of the breakfast . We have never experienced anything like it and could not eat all the food that was provided. We were also very surprised to see our car being washed before departure. On checking out, we met the owner who is justifiably proud of her house.

Simply fabulous place to stay! The building is very elegant both in terms of its appearance and decor. A very warm welcome from Callum was followed by tea and scones. We had a high quality dinner accompanied by an excellent wine list. There are number of small museums near to the hotel which are well worth a visit. As mentioned a lot in previous reviews the breakfast is top notch. Highest recommendation.

My family party of thirteen (including ten adults, two small children and a ten month old baby) stayed here overnight on our way back to Cape Town from Plettenburg Bay. Every aspect of our stay was excellent - from the very comfortable rooms, the warm welcome of the entire team and the very high quality of the food and wines. The team were also very sensitive and helpful to a party with a wide variety of dietary requirements as well as age! Our only regret is that we did not stay longer. I cannot recommend Schoone Oordt highly enough.
