Lovely settings everything in good order staff very friendly nice for a short break, Only thing I thought that the food a bit over priced for what it was.

The setting of the pub is 5* beside a rolling river. The food itself is 5*. What let it down for me was the service. My starter was missing its chutney, the main arrived with mash instead of the chips and they brought double cream instead of clotted. The accommodation is good but the sofa bed an carpet felt grubby. I would recommend the food but be very clear to the servers what you want

Booked a table for two via telephone, arrived at specified time to find our table was not ready. Advised to get a drink and an alternative would be found, were we happy to sit in the bar area and not the dining area? No problem and an alternative was found. Waited for our menus and after a few minutes we were ready to order at the bar. We waited and waited and just as we’re about to leave and get a takeaway our food arrived. Staff member very apologetic said they are short staffed. Only one person behind the bar so when a refill was required, and it definitely was, a long wait was had. No one told us how long the waiting time was for food, no one asked if our meal was ok and there was no one I could tell how disappointing the food was. Over priced and poor quality. Will not go back and it’s 10 minutes from where we live.

We waited to be seated as instructed, but several staff walked past without acknowledging us. We were eventually seated and moved to a quieter table as requested, which was appreciated. We set up a tab and ordered food at the bar. When our meals arrived 25 minutes later, mine was completely cold, and my husband's chips were cold too. I asked for a replacement, which arrived within 10 minutes and was delicious. The desserts took 15 minutes, and I had to ask for a clean spoon as mine was dirty. One staff member was particularly helpful, apologising and chasing the desserts. We had a 30% off mains voucher that was helpful, given the issues. Overall, it could be a great place with more attentive staff and perhaps more people on shift.

Took my mum and partner out for a local dinner last night, decided on fisherman’s cot as only 10 minutes away. Looked on website to book and very pleased to see a30% off voucher. However, after the meal we all agreed that even with the discount it wasn’t good value at all!! Two of us had steak & ale pie with chips & veggies. Portion sizes good, pie not hot, not chunky meat like a usual pie. Just seemed like a cheap pie. (Usual price £15.79) Partner had hunters chicken. (Usual price £15.99) Small, and came with just a small portion of chips and lettuce- a tiny drop of salad dressing, but literally just dry lettuce!! Partner had a crumble for pudding. Tiny portion for £7.29. Ordered a takeaway watermelon & feta salad for my son- £15.79….what a joke!!! No idea how they could call it a main meal!! Zero salad dressing- dry rocket & lettuce with a few pieces of watermelon & feta, and some pumpkin seeds. All in all felt very disappointed with the poor quality meal … only upside was at least we had a discount- though still made each main around £11 and they didn’t seem worth even that especially the salad! Staff were lovely & friendly but did need to keep asking for attention rather than have one person attend the table, it seemed a bit disorganised. Eat here occasionally in a Sunday, the carvery is always great.

This pub is in a beautiful location and will, of course, attract many passing visitors. Lots of parking. Main building well maintained and welcoming. However....understaffed. Supposed to wait at reception do be shown to a table for our meal. Only on first night was there anyone there. Every other time we had to go and look for someone. Breakfast buffet deserted and I had to find someone to ask for bowls, plates, bread etc. Sliced bread brought out in it's packet and put in basket as was. Gravy sign from Sunday carvery left out and splattered with dried gravy. As we were staying for 3 nights it was more convenient to eat dinner in however service was terribly slow. 30mins to get 2 drinks brought to our table. Food was ok when it arrived and the lady serving apologetic for our wait. 3 staff in the kitchen...is that adequate? The last evening we had not booked an evening meal but decided we were too tired to go anywhere else. Sat at a small table for two in sight of the bar as other tables hadn't been cleared. Had to wipe it down first as it was wet and sticky. All so disappointing. Accommodation. As a previous reviewer has said the exterior of the lodge where our room was situated was very rundown with paint peeling from the outside door. Inside was well decorated and warm, as was our bedroom. It was neat clean and spacious with patio doors to a private terrace with seating area...that was a surprise! However...it is a double room so why is there only one chair? A simple desk and 2 bedside cabinets and no drawers at all. The bathroom was spotlessly clean but the bath panel had chunks of paint missing, the door wouldn't latch, the hot tap cap was just resting on the top, a miss matched plug was on a loose bit of chain, and the plunger on the loo cistern wobbling as if it were going to come apart. It just reminded me of some ordinary old wayside Motel. The experience could have been so much better.

Being local to the pub it is always a stunning place for a drink. However, all the bird poo on the tables and seats outside was VERY unhygenic! Sadly the food gets worse and worse so we will no longer eat there. Hunters chicken cooked so long you could barely chew it. So dry you could peel it off in thin strings. Dried sauce, was there cheese? If there was i couldn't see any. Obviously cooked hours in advance and was frankly disgusting for £15.95. A small pile of undressed, wilting rocket as a ‘garnish’. Chips were nice but few of them. Scampi was OK but again overcooked.

Suprised at some of the poor reviews. We have eaten there many times and enjoyed the meals on every occasion. Today was no different. I had an excellent steak and ale pie and chips. The rest had scampi and chips. Puddings were good too. The staff were lovely.

Went out for an anniversary meal with my husband and thought we would go the the Fishermans cot for a meal. The weather was not kind and we worried as we had booked to eat outside but the staff quickly sorted out a table inside with a view of the river. The food was delicious and clearly freshly cooked. Would definitely recommend to go here as the view, food and staff were all great. Well done Fishermans cot
