Firstly the hotel is well located as everything you’d want to do is within a 20 minute walk; but secondly its location is also not that great as the neighbourhood is sketchy to say the least. Granville, 1 block away, is really rough and the surrounding couple of blocks are rammed with homeless people. Check-in was also a pain. We arrived an hour before check-in time, left our bags and went for something to eat as we’d had a long journey from Montreal. We came back a little after check-in time and it still was not ready. My status level gives me a guaranteed room at check-in time and the agent tried to get me to take a regular king room with sofa bed instead of the suite that I’d booked and paid - a lot - for. I decided to wait and was told they’d rush the cleaning. Half an hour later, still nothing, and the manager came out to apologise. He gave a hefty discount and sent 2 more people up to get the room ready. He also bought my wife and I a drink at the bar. The suite was very nice, very large but with a curiously small shower room. The king bed was great and the pull out sofa also very comfortable. A second sofa was also provided so using one as a bed still left sitting space. The only complaint about the room was the fact that the shower gel hadn’t been refilled (the old days where you got individual bottles was much easier to tell when it had all been used!), so we had to leave a note to ask for it to be replaced. We had drinks in the bar and the happy hour prices were definitely very reasonable. On balance, I would recommend the hotel but watch it after dark. The surrounding area isn’t good.
