When we arrived, we had not received the code for the key safe for our room (room 6). We rang the owner (who was not on site) to hear that we had been 'upgraded' to room 9. He gave us the code to collect that key, and we negotiated our way past the rubbish bags at the front door to find that, not only was it unlocked, the lock was actually broken! When we got to the top of the (rather steep) stairs, we found a tired but clean room. The bed was comfortable, but the fridge was totally unsuitable for a bedroom, with a noisy fan that ran permanently. In the bathroom, the shower screen was out of its runners, which meant that it couldn't seal and water leaked onto the bathroom floor. When we had a wash we found that there was no hot water, so we had to use the shower to put hot water into the hand basin. On the second day of our stay (Saturday) we returned from a day out to find that the room hadn't been cleaned, the bins hadn't been emptied, the towels hadn't been replaced and the tea/coffee supplies hadn't been replenished. In the evening we met friends who had paid a lot less for better rooms in hotels, with breakfast (which the Florence doesn't provide). When we left on the Sunday morning the rubbish bags were still blocking the unlockable front door. In the absence of any instructions on what to do with the keys, we left them on a numbered hook in the entrance hall. In future, we will avoid the Florence like the plague, and would advise others to do the same.
