We had an enjoyable stay at the Westgate. It sits in a great position in town, the room was comfortable, and the breakfast very nice, maybe some croissants/pastries could be made available? Some guests could struggle a little with the steep stairs, If you travel to the hotel by car be prepared to pay £17 per day to park locally and have to return to your vehicle daily to top-up the 24 hour ticket. As there are a fair number of hotels in Winchester you'd think the local council could come up with some sort of agreement with the hotels for long term guests?(this is obviously no fault of the hotel). You can't even use any of the 'Park and Rides' as cars can't be left overnight.

Amazing. I love this place so much. It's not a far walk from the train station so when I got in late at night it was quick to walk to. The bed was so comfortable. I don't know if I was just jetlagged or what because once I hit that mattress and those pillows, I instantly fell asleep. I was just so cozy. It felt like I was staying in a friend's home. The staff was so wonderful. I felt bad, I was just this clueless American hot off the plane and didn't know what was going on. They were so patient, kind, and accommodating. I loved chatting with them. The pub downstairs was an experience to behold. This is a pub I would hang out at. I wish I could have stayed longer so that I COULD hang out at the pub more. The breakfast that was included was delicious. I can't speak any better words as to how wonderful my stay at the Westgate was. I just wished I took more pictures of it!

Another great stay at The Westgate with family and friends for long weekend. Always made to feel welcome by all the team. Was there for live entertainment by the Henry's who were fabulous. Lovely cooked breakfast and meal. Just a stone throw away from the centre of town for visits to the cathedral, shops and great quirky pubs. Looking forward to my next stay already. Rooms have been recently updated and are lovely and cosy and very clean. The decor lovely. Would very highly recommend a stay at The Westgate

I called in for a quick beverage, the staff were not particularly friendly. It was card only which is not justified as several banks are a short walk away. The decor is good and the toilets nice and fresh. Overall cleanliness good, fairly near to main shopping area.

Stayed 3 nights. Just returned from my 2nd visit to the Westgate and to say how impressed I am with all the improvements and changes that have taken place. The new decor in the rooms and the addition of the new outdoor seating area are outstanding. The recent introduction of a breakfast menu, including delicious full english, was very enjoyable. Thanks to Ben and Emily and his wonderful team for making my stay a very memorably happy one.

Just returned from a weekend break in Winchester staying at the Westgate, which is ideally situated just outside the West gate to the city at the top of the high street and perfect for exploring the historic city and its cathedral. The pub itself is very inviting, the staff are pleasant and attentive and the accommodation is comfortable and clean with a very pleasant outdoor sitting area, which has recently been opened. The weekend we were there the entertainment in the bar area was excellent. I would highly recommend a stay at the Westgate as a base for a short stay in Winchester, just contact Ben, the general manager or his team, who I'm sure will be more than happy to accommodate you. Thanks again to all at the Westgate for a fantastic weekend.

Lovely stay. We'd originally planned to lodge in a Southampton Hilton brand. This was close to the university where we had a conference so we decided to go for it -- especially because of the staff. Dana and Charlotte were absolutely two of the kindest people we met during our six week research-stay in England. Can you believe the staff carried our heavy book-filled suitcases upstairs? We had a room that looked like it had some recent updates. Very charming. If you are not good with stairs or have balance issues, avoid the top floor in particular. The only other downside is the kitchen was not open in the evenings. Two nights in a row, my husband ate Tesco sandwiches (I enjoyed food at conference related events). Oh, please put body wash or some type of soap in shower. It is the custom for hotels to have the tall containers now to cut back on recycling. We had the shampoo and conditioner and hand soap but no body soap. Thankfully, I had chunks of some handmade soap in a ziploc but it's not my first preference as it stains towels brown. Otherwise, lovely stay! PS I love the cute little breakfast in the baskets. Refilled daily. More of the healthy fruit and nuts cereal, please.
