The Riffelhaus is probably the best hotel in the Gornergrat region. It is a lovely historical building and it is definitely worth it splashing out on a Matterhorn full view room. While it is a pricey hotel, if somebody is flexible with their times, then it can be booked at much more favorable rates. Room 101 was tiny but gorgeously furnished in alpine style and staring right at the Matterhorn. Most bookings come with a four-meal course dinner and this time around it was salad, soup, a wonderfully prepared steak with sides and tarte tatin with ice cream. The breakfast is also a great spread with lots and lots of options. Another highlight is the amazing spa area with the outdoor jacuzzi and the large, spacious sauna, both once again offering full view of the Matterhorn. And the staff also perform their tasks very professionally and with a welcoming smile on their faces. As a once-in-a-lifetime treat, the Riffelhaus is worth breaking the bank for.
