Hiroshima Attractions | Hiroshima Castle and Cherry Blossoms

Hiroshima Castle, one of Japan's 100 famous castles, was originally built by Mori Terumoto, a military commander under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, in 1589. It was destroyed by the atomic bomb during World War II, and the current Hiroshima Castle is a reconstruction, which is quite modern inside. Transportation: Take Hiroshima tram lines 1, 2, or 6 to Kamiya-cho Higashi, then walk for 15 minutes, or take a bus from the south exit of Hiroshima Station to 'Godocho-mae' for about 7 minutes, get off at 'Godocho-mae' station, and walk for 8 minutes. Admission: Free for junior high school students and younger, ¥180 for high school students and those over 65, and ¥370 for adults. I walked from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, which took about 20 minutes. I happened to visit during the full bloom of the cherry blossoms, mainly around the moat and near Hiroshima Castle. The reconstructed castle has a steel structure interior, with large spaces on each floor displaying the history of Hiroshima Castle and information about the samurai families. From the castle tower, you can see the cherry blossoms around Hiroshima Castle and the cityscape. It's worth a visit if you have the chance to go to Hiroshima.
