Shadowless Pagoda

The Shadowless Pagoda, also known as Xingfu Temple Pagoda, is located in Hongshan Park, 509 Wuluo Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It was built in the 6th year of Xianchun in the Southern Song Dynasty (1270). The Shadowless Pagoda is a four-story imitation wooden structure with a double eave tower-style building. It is about 11.25 meters high and is made entirely of stone. The tower is octagonal in plan, and the first layer of the tower is quite high. It stands on the Sumeru seat and the lotus seat, and the diameter of the Sumeru seat is 4.25 meters. Except for the first floor, the second, third, and fourth floors are divided into two floors with eaves, and each side of the upper floor has a false door. Under the eaves, there are stone carvings imitating wooden brackets. There are four groups on each side of the bottom layer, and three groups on each side of the other layers. The top of the tower is damaged. The Shadowless Pagoda has a definite construction period and a simple shape, and can be used as an important scale for the dating of ancient buildings in the Wuhan area, and it also has important value for the study of Buddhist history. In November 1956, the Shadowless Pagoda was announced by the People's Government of Hubei Province as the first batch of provincial cultural relics protection units. On March 5, 2013, it was announced by the State Council as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
