The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Hankou, also known as the "French Church" in Hankou, is a small Catholic church located in the French Concession in Hankou for the exclusive use of foreign residents. The Church of the Immaculate Conception was built in 1910, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, and is located on the Rue du Premier Ministre (now Chezhan Road) in the French Concession in Hankou. In 1910, Bishop Tian Ruiyu of the Hubei Eastern Diocese appointed French priest Ding Shou to be responsible for the construction of the church. The church covers an area of more than 300 square meters, is cross-shaped, and the interior is decorated in the Gothic style, which is gorgeous and exquisite. The ceiling is blue and decorated with white stars. The construction cost of the church was 12,000 taels of silver. From 1924 to 1925, the Hankou Diocese built an accounting office (manager's office) to the right of the church, which became the economic center of the Catholic Church in Central China. The church was closed in 1953. Later, the church was occupied by an external unit. The church opening ceremony was held on December 8, 2014.
