The waters of the Jiunv Immortal Lake originate from the Qin River, which is the second largest river in Shanxi Province. It rises in Qinyuan County, Shanxi, flows south through Anze, Qinshui, Yangcheng, Jincheng, cuts through the Taihang Mountains, flows into Henan, and finally empties into the Yellow River. It is named after one of the ancient eight scenic spots of Yangcheng, 'Jiunv Immortal Platform', and 'Yanhe Spring', the number one spring in Shanxi, which stores water to form the lake. The main landscape feature is a high gorge and flat lake formed by using a hydroelectric dam to intercept the Qin River channel.
