Things to do in Taitung

Green Island is located in the southeast of Taiwan Province, China. It was formerly known as "Jixinyu", "Qingzaiyu" and "Huoshao Island". It is a volcanic island with hills and mountains. The highest point is Huoshao Mountain, which is 280 meters high. There are many cliffs in the southeast seaside area, and the southwest corner is a plain beach that is more than 10 kilometers long. The northwest coastal area is low-lying and is the main settlement of the island. There are many different opinions about the origin of the name Huoshao Island. The most popular one is the theory that the island was burned by a fire during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. Green Island is the fourth largest affiliated island of Taiwan. Administratively, it belongs to Green Island Township, Taitung County, Taiwan Province. The residents on the island are mainly Han people (Minnan ethnic group) who immigrated from Xiaoliuqiu and Donggang in the middle of the Qing Dynasty.

We passed by here on a day trip from Hualien to Kenting. I heard that the rice produced here is delicious, so the Chihshang bento is very famous. We tried it and it was OK. The overall cost-effectiveness of the lunch box is very high, and the content is rich. One person is quite full. Then there is Brown Avenue. The road is straight, and there are green rice fields on both sides, which is very beautiful.

Brown Road is a rural road in Chihshang Township, Taitung County. There is not a single electric pole on either side of the straight road. The road divides the fields on both sides into two halves, and is known as the "Green Paradise Road". Brown Road has a very wide view, and the charm lies in the vast rice fields. The rice ears sway in the wind, like waves hitting your face, which is an unforgettable beautiful scene.

Tiehua Village is a stage for local singers and also a place for singers from outside the county to perform and exchange ideas. There are different music performances every week and every month. People can enjoy the performances by paying a low price for drinks. If you haven't been to Tiehua Village, you haven't been to Taitung. You can also visit Uncle's Little White House.

Taimali, Taitung, is rich in sugar apples. August is the peak summer season, and there are many roadside vendors selling them. The prices are quite good. If you charter a car from Hualien to Taitung or Kenting, you must pass by here. You will usually buy some to eat. The sugar apples in Taitung are much bigger and sweeter than those we eat in the mainland. It's a pity that you can only eat them locally. Fresh fruits are not easy to preserve and cannot be brought back.

Finally arrived in Taitung, the scenery along the way was amazing, the Sheraton Hotel was nice, they upgraded us to a suite and gave us a lot of fruits, snacks and drinks. The kids love taking a bath the most, and this time they also realized it. Seeing that the room was nice, they didn't ask to go swimming anymore.

Smooth access, friendly staff, great adventure despite the long lines for getting in and out. We were lucky enough to enjoy sunset and the night views of Taipei. The egg cake is so delicious.
