Elounda Alikes Suites & Studios

Elounda Alikes is on the water in the beautiful and quaint town of Elounda. The rooms are above average size with a decent balcony for 2 people. The AC was great as well as the bed. The full bar and restaurant on the property are great and available most of the day and night with friendly and helpful staff. The pool and loungers are comfortable and enjoyable. There are a few restaurants in the same street. It is a 10 minute walk to The Square for more restaurants, bars, taxi stand, boat tours and supermarkets.

A top-notch stay all round, absolutely loved it. We were welcomed with warmth having arrived on a late-evening flight, and after a speedy check-in were shown to our room (suite). If all the rooms are like the one that we stayed in then it's an amazing place. A separate lounge (with a main balcony and a rear balcony with drying rack) and a spacious bedroom (with another decent sized balcony overlooking the pool area), each room having independent air con units. There are traditional shutters at the doors and windows which really help to keep the rooms cool during the day. The bathroom had a lovely shower and was well maintained and spotlessly clean. In fact, it is really worth making a point of how clean, tidy and well maintained the whole place is. Although the pool and bar areas look compact, it was never overly busy and there seemed to always be a sunbed or two (I can't recall seeing any ”reserved” sunbeds with unattended towels). This may be in part to the provision of towels for around the pool, and also that the staff are nearby, but it was appreciated. Also, the pool area was never noisy or rowdy, and there was an air of tranquility about the place. The gardens had a seating area under the trees, which were decked with citrus fruits. The little extras were also appreciated. A bottle of rather nice white local wine in the fridge (which was set to a good cold temperature), coffee pods (re-stocked) for the Nespresso machine, botanical shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom, pegs for the drying line (the breezy days were quite welcome at the end of August). And did I mention that there were two aircon units! All the staff were brilliant, but a special mention for the housekeeper who always seemed to come as soon as we went out for the morning, and the room was totally spotless and so neat and tidy.
Aristea Hotel

I found this hotel last year when staying further out of town and was determined to stay there this year so booked directly with them by e-mail for 11 nights and could not have been happier. It’s typically Greek and the oldest established hotel in Elounda. All rooms have a balcony or terrace but ask for a sea facing room and you’ll get a view to die for. Breakfast is the usual continental and certainly enough to keep me going until dinner. You won’t get a full English but you can find that elsewhere if that’s what you need. Staff all helpful and polite. Rooms cleaned and bed linen and towels changed regularly. This was my second solo trip to Elounda and there was a lovely mix of couples and solos at the hotel. There was always someone to sit with at breakfast if you wished and I had dinner out with a couple of similarly solo ladies. Being so central in the town is a bonus as everything is on your doorstep and there are lovely walks all around. The owners also have the floating restaurant directly in front of the hotel, the Poulis just further along the front and a restaurant in Plaka which are worth a visit. I’ll definitely stay here again; booked this trip a year last June and may just get in there early again!
