De Baarsjes
We loved this stay! Perfect for an weekend getaway. It isn't very central but really well connected with the trams. The concept of the hotel is extremely fun and the staff were lovely. We stayed in the Invisible Room and had a great night sleep on a very comfy bed. We didn't eat in the restaurant but having a spot for breakfast, coffee and an evening cocktail was great. However, the room was quite compact (so I wouldn't want to stay beyond a long weekend) and sharing a bathroom made it closer to a hostel than a hotel. Great find if you are willing to compromise on en suite / spacious room and prefer a unique experience.

We stayed here for 3 nights and returned home yesterday. The hotel was good for the price we paid, as compared to most other hotels in Amsterdam it is incredibly cheap. However I’m unsure as to why it has 4 stars, as in my opinion it’s more like a 3 star. The lobby is bright and clean, and has good luggage storage places for if you arrive before check in or need to leave much later than check out etc. The toilet in the lobby is clean and large, making it easy to freshen up after your flight etc. The staff were happy and friendly and always able to help with booking taxis etc. We did not have breakfast included and instead opted to go out for breakfast so I cannot comment on how good the food is. We booked 2x standard double rooms for a couples trip. Our rooms were conveniently situated next door which was good. However, both rooms were not clean enough. The bathroom sink had hair in it upon arrival, the toilet brush was not new and not even clean, and there was something I can only describe as ‘poo water’ in the bottom of the toilet brush holder, which was disgusting. The towels are very small and not very soft, which was also disappointing. And the robes were also tiny. I am 67kg and 5ft 6 so very average and the robes barely fitted me, let alone my husband. They’ve chosen to use a lot of mirrored furniture in the rooms and this is a lovely addition, if it’s clean. And unfortunately, none of the mirrored furniture was clean upon arrival, and still never got cleaned at all throughout our stay. There were finger prints, dust and other smears all over the TV table, bedside tables and on the mirrors behind the bed on the head board, which was pretty gross. The mini fridge also did not include any basic snacks or drinks, not even a cold bottle of water upon arrival. Although our friends staying next door said they had one small 500ml bottle of water, whilst we had nothing. When the room got cleaned on the first day, they didn’t empty the bin properly and a wet tea bag was left in the bottom, again- not good. Our room was also not cleaned at all on the second day, neither was our friends room. Neither room had the ‘do not disturb’ sign on it, and we left the hotel at 8.30am and didn’t return until 5.30pm to get ready for dinner- so they had plenty of time to clean it. Therefore we never got fresh sheets, clean dry towels and more toilet roll etc. The corridors of the hotel need updating. They’re very dark and not at all clean. Lots of damaged paintwork and discoloured doors etc. The location was ok. If you’re looking to go to Amsterdam and visit all the sites like Anne frank museum, Vondelpark and the main canals etc, this probably isn’t the hotel for you, as it’s at least a 20 minute (30+ euro) taxi ride into town each way. I would recommend going more central as this was a lot further than we originally thought, even after doing research on Google maps. However, at £800 for 3 nights for both rooms, it was much cheaper than more centrally
