I left another local hostel after one night as it was just too noisy - I wanted a place for a good rest so that I could really enjoy all the amazing day trips nearby. This place did just that! I booked a single occupancy room (shared bathroom) on the day and stayed for 4 nights - great value for money and really did the job - I had a perfect rest here. Other guests were of all ages and were friendly. The hostel was very quiet at night and put on some optional entertainment (I chose not to partake and it didn’t disturb me at all). The pool area is small but great! Big kitchen area to cook in and store food. The staff were great at helping me book day trips and the location is fantastic for these (I did the Great Barrier Reef, karunda skyrail and daintree trip from here and the location was perfect). I would definitely stay again!

We were a family with kids 3 and 7. We booked a triple room but got given a quad which was nice. It was a heat wave, but the aircon was super cold. The room and common areas were clean and inviting. The pool was a great escape from the heat. It was easy to walk into town and the Cairns Central Mall was across the road. I need to come again by myself and will be booking here again.

The personnel is helpful and friendly. The location is perfect and the bar/club is always busy. You can eat, drink and party all at the same place.
The air conditioning in the rooms was a bit too strong, and there is no controller to modify it. It's a centralised system.
The bed has to be done by yourself when arriving. Finding it done would be appreciated. A shelf and individual light in the bed would be really useful.
The building is very big and has enough room in the common areas and kitchen (which is busy at any time).
Services are fine overall.

1) It was a nightmare checking-in. I reached the hostel at 6:30pm and realized that there was no reception but to use Goki for checking-in. However, I received a notice from Goki that ”no reservation” after keying in my confirmation number. I got a shock and kept asking for help from strangers within the hostel. By the time I got it solved, it was like 8:30pm and I was starved to death.
2) Though Goki is an easy system but u need to bring your mobile everywhere you go even to the toilet eg shower (what happen if you forget to bring out the phone); there was a time my phone was almost out of battery (1% left) and I have to quickly charge it by borrowing charger from others.
3) There is no window in my room (single) and the air-con temperature is beyond my control
4) The reception area only opens till 2pm daily, after which you have to make call for any housekeeping services. It really pose inconveniences for first timer who wants to know about Cairns in terms of the directions, places of interests etc.
5) The location is excellent but I don't think I will recommend this hostel to my friends in future.

Good location, and only a short walk from shops, bars, restaurants and the reef cruise terminal. Large rooms with all things you would need for a short stay although the room we stayed in was dated. I believe there is a room modernisation programme on the go. Quite noisy at night, not sure if it was coming from the hotel bar area on floor 3 or from a nearby establishment. Our room was on floor 10 and even with the balcony door closed it still kept us awake. Staff were pleasant and helpful and rooms serviced daily. We booked this hotel in July 2022 with breakfast included. It came as a surprise to us when we took breakfast on the first day that we only had limited choice from the menu. All other items including larger breakfast items, juice and coffee were charged extra. Due to time limitations on the first day we left it till later to complain. Reception explained that there had been a change of management and had discontinued the buffet breakfast in favour of an al a carte one. They phoned the restaurant and authorised full breakfast free of charge for us. As we had paid cash for extras the previous day, this was now lost. We always check booking.com and trip advisor reviews before making reservations. My advice would be to ignore those prior to July 2022 and especially ones that mention breakfast.

Pleasant motel with nice extra touches. Comfortable beds with cotton sheets and throws if needed. Efficient aircon and plenty of space in the apartment. Kitchenette was very useful and there are excellent takeaways nearby. I expect the parking can be tight, but we didn’t have a car so not an issue for us. We used the pool, which was a reasonable size, very clean and comfortable temperature. Very clean apartment, kitchenette had been refurbished more recently than the bathroom which was looking a little tired, but plenty of hot water and pressure was good. Wifi was excellent and staff efficient and helpful. We arrived early from the airport and they stored our bags until check in time. We found it good value for money.

Pullman's is close to everything in town. I rang Pullman's the day after I booked a room & asked reservations if I could get a upgrade to a harbour view, the reservations person said that yes I could get an upgrade & that it would cost me an extra $20 a night on top of what I had paid, I said should I pay for that now, they said no when you arrived it will be $80 as I was staying for 4 nights. When I arrived I asked them about my upgrade & they said there was no record of me wanting an upgrade & that they could not help with a harbour view room as they did not have any available. I had other friends staying at the hotel at the same time that paid for mountain views & got harbour views. The furniture in the rooms were
old & tables were swollen & had big chips out of them, outdoor table & chairs were not 5 star. We had breakfast at Coco's, I had ordered muffins, my friends had ordered omelette & bacon & eggs. I changed my mine 1 minute after I ordered, I wanted waffles I asked the staff & they said yes they would change my order. My friends order came & I waited for 20 minutes before I got my waffles. Staff were walking around the restaurant with orders & asking people had they ordered this, they had no table numbers, no idea who ordered what, they looked very unprofessional.

I was happy to learn that my room had a washer and drier since I came from spending several days on a dive boat and needed to clean everything. The room was very clean and it had a huge balcony. It had a full kitchen and a large refrigerator. My tour was able to pick me up from the front of the hotel and it is a regular pick up spot for tours. I was very happy with my stay at Park Regis

We loved the atmosphere of the whole environment and had lunch there today. Sitting in a secluded outdoor overlooking the pool, we felt we could have a holiday anywhere in the world. The six of us were satisfied with our meals and thought they were great value for money. We both had a tiger prawn salad for $19 and the wardrobe had a fragrant taste. Three super special menus (which have closed) for $15, including a glass of wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, and another $15 price is very close to the people including a chicken hamburger and potato chips. The waiting staff is friendly. Our only regret is: “Why didn’t we discover this place earlier?”

GGuest UserWe arrived at the hotel around 1.30pm and we were able to check in straight away, the girl on reception was very friendly and explained where our room was as there are 2 towers . We were on the 10th floor with a city view. Our room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Loved how they are helping with environmentally keys for your door which are just round bamboo disks and also having no plastic bottles in the fridges, just glass bottles. All tv programs were free so we’re able to watch new release movies and free wifi . We had booked a holiday package , so we also had free car parking and a $250 credit to use at any of their hotels . Would definitely stay here again .

I won’t come back there are plenty hotels in the vicinity, a little walk is good exercise; plus the night market is on the other side anyway.

GGuest UserWe stayed at the Palm Royale for only 3 nights & I wish it could have been longer. We checked in late the 1 st night so there was little time left of the day except to go to bed. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the pool & it was fairly comfortable. Unfortunately, the room was a long walk from the lobby, the air conditioner was very loud, and there was some street noise. Most of the staff @ the desk were pleasant & approachable. There is also guest laundry +++. The pools are fantastic. The restaurant is closed. This property is too far from the centre. There is shopping nearby.

GGuest UserMy partner and I stayed at sunshine tower for 5 nights and it was an enjoyable stay. I want to start by saying the girls on reception were all very friendly and welcoming, they were happy to have a chat anytime and also recommended places to visit and see. Shout out to Phoebe she was lovely! The property is a little be further out of the main ***** but only a 10-15 minute walk or you can jump on one of the Beam scooters that are outside. The outside of the property is tired looking and could do with an update but the rooms are renovated and lovely. Tiled floors, updated furniture and great sizes. The kitchenette was lovely to have even though we didn’t really use it. There is no oven or stove up so keep this in mind when booking. The bathroom was a tad small but worked and the shower was great! We were in room 702 which had a lovely view towards the beach but note that this level also houses the electrical stuff so it is a little loud when you are trying to sleep. The tv was a smart tv but could never connect to the wifi so I would recommend them to update to have modems on each level. The outdoor pool and sauna were okay, only used it once and unfortunately the texture of the spa and pool was very rough on the skin so couldn’t stay in there long. BBQs are available for use but we didn’t use these. No housekeeping (I knew about this before booking) however the girls at reception were more than happy to provide more toilet paper/towels/tea/coffee etc with no extra cost. Overall it’s a great property and worth the visit for stays under a week!

GGuest UserWe really enjoyed staying at Mantra Esplanade. The only thing I’d mention to sun lovers is that the hotel pool has no sun during the whole day (we were there in June 2021) so went for a swim to the lagoon across the road instead.

GGuest UserGreat food and friendly helpful staff. Although this building is quite old it has been reasonably well renovated and is very comfortable to stay at. I had to leave VERY early to catch a bus and was supplied with a box breakfast, most welcome at 5am. On my return from my trip to Karumba we found that my booking had been made incorrectly a week further ahead.on arrival at 7pm , very tired,I was very grateful that the duty manager was able to put me into a very nice room for the night, and I was able to have a delightful meal and catch up with the gorgeous Shoni who welcomed me back even though I looked and smelt like Robinson Caruso, would definitely go there again.

GGuest UserThe photos provided by the operators are extremely deceptive. The accomodation is old and run down. The shower tiles were painted at some stage, and it is now peeling off both the floor and the walls. The “updated” vanity basin and tap are poorly sizes and you are unable to fully wash your face due to the shape and size of the basin with a shorter necked faucet . There is no complete enclosure for water in the shower resulting in you flooding the bathroom each time you shower- we ended up using the common showers in the passageway to attempt keep our room dry. The toilet paper is only single ply so bring your own if you decide to stay here !! Our towels and sheets had stains on them and the pillows are flat and lumpy. I wouldn’t swim in the pool unless you’ve had your latest tetanus shots. We were followed back to the accommodation by a slightly hostile homeless person one night which was slightly unnerving for our teenage daughters. The nicest part of this accommodation is the outdoor BBQ area. The breakfast provided smelt ok, but we decided to eat at the cafe at the marina each day as we were heading out to the reef and islands anyways. LLinda E Address: 331-337 Lake St, Cairns City QLD 4870 Phone: (07) 4041 6605 If you are unfortunate enough to be allocated this unit there are things you should be advised The Edge Apartments Cairns is situated in Cairns only 220 yards from the Northen end of the Esplanade and the Coral Sea. It has 2 outdoor pools and spacious air-conditioned apartments. COMMENT In June 2023 We found our apartment 205 for 10 days to NOTt to be of 4star standard at all. PRO: The bedlinen and bathroom towels were very clean and of good quality. The air conditioning worked. The ceiling fans worked. The apartment was spacious. The fridge worked but bottom of door shelving missing. Inconvenient if you wanted to store water bottles etc. CONS: ” Each unit at the Edge has a flat-screen TV”., which was NOT working and had to be re-connected by guest. “Free Wi-Fi” NOT available in unit 205 – we were informed by office unless you wanted to stand outside of office area to connect. Apartment was dark, - lighting in all rooms inadequate and woefully dim and outdated. Lighting in laundry area was badly positioned – and here there were no instructions on how machine worked. *Vertical Blinds in poor state and need maintenance or replacement. *All doors (screen and glass sliding) need maintenance to run smoothly. *The furniture was inappropriate (apart from 2 leather sofas) and badly arranged. *The ambience was noisy. The decor throughout the apartment – wasn’t.!! Except 2 pictures hung almost at ceiling. – 1 small mirror in dark hallway., and a wall clock. (All 15 years or more in age) *No rugs or furnishings to soften the décor or the echo sounding throughout the apartment. *Coffee table in bad state. *Dining table satisfactory but serviced by 2 different types of chairs. *The bathroom needed maintenance/upgrade (and pictures I have taken show much damage to outer base of shower, mould along the wall.) *The kitchens come equipped with very basic essentials. A microwave and dishwasher., utensils for cooking on very old worn stove. “Some units have balconies with sea or mountain views”, others, like ours, at 205 had overgrown foliage with NO views. The Edge Apartments Cairns has an outdoor entertainment area with barbecue facilities and free on-site private parking. *The Rain forestation Nature Park is 11 miles from The Edge Apartments. Kuranda Scenic Railway and Skyrail Rainforest Cableway are only a 10-minute drive away.

GGuest UserI really loved this motel as it was very Quiet during the day and night, even though they were full with guests. The motel was very, very clean, the beds were very comfortable and there was enough room for my two young children to play. The staff at reception were so friendly and helpful in arranging a ground floor unit for me. I have noticed that many hotels in Cairns are not staffed since Covid and it was so wonderful to have friendly staff available at reception and answering phones. Thanks for a wonderful stay. I will be back.

GGuest User When I got there the room smelt of mould. I was told that was the smell of the cleaning products, but I am not stupid so I insisted they change the room. They did, but it was infested with ants. They were in the sink area, on the counter, in the bathroom, and around the toilet bowl. They even got into the wardrobe. I spoke to reception about it and all I got was a ”there is nothing we can do for you”. They sent someone after 2 days (as I had to wait since it was Sunday as if I hadn't paid for the weekend!) and he also said there was nothing he could do. I complained to booking.com and they told them they had upgraded me - BIG FAT LIE. Very quick to send me messages to leave reviews (here you have it!) but not to resolve issues. There was also an electrical fault that destroyed two expensive universal adapters. The hotel did nothing to compensate for this. Again ”there is nothing we can do for you” is what I got. I lost a day's pay as I could not work without a power supply, had to purchase new adapters the following day, and all they could say is ”there is nothing we can do for you”. What kind of hotel doesn't have adapters? The AC unit was exposed, the door was tricky to lock/unlock (the receptionist had to show me how to lock the door), and there is no one available at night in case something goes wrong. Lastly, the listing says daily cleaning but this is not true. You are only allowed to ask for it once in the middle of your stay and you need to request this. I did and she barely cleaned anything, just a quick vacuum and change of sheets and some towels (not all). My sincere advice as a world traveller: STAY AWAY FROM HOTEL TROPIQ. Their customer service is ZERO. Quick to take credit card details but then refuse to take responsibility for anything that goes wrong within the service. You just have to accept a ”there is nothing we can do for you”. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy!
