Our first night of eating in the restaurant my husband and I were extremely sick within an hour of eating in there.. The food was not hot but tepid and bland . We were so ill and almost called the doctor and later on found out there had been a great number of people who had fallen very ill and hospitalised too.. All who spoke to us had eaten in the restaurant. The late night man on reception was extremely rude and just waved his hands in the air and told us to go to hospital. We needed water and we were told to go to the restaurant .. not a wise move when someone has been vomiting all night to enter a restaurant full of people. Reception girl kindly got me a jug of water but not bottled. In addition to this the queues for the restaurant are horrendous and it’s like a school canteen in there. So noisy!! We were here for a week and spent four days in our room living on bread that our family member got for us .. When the sickness first occurred we tried to use the phone in the room to get some help and water but it wasn’t working. This was later fixed at a later date.. i asked for the manager to call me but I received no response. The next day I asked again and still didn’t receive a phone call.. No one was really concerned about this food poisoning and the sickness. The hotel reception is clean, the rooms are basic.. There is no coffee & tea facility in the room.. There is a safe in the room but you have to pay for it. Pool area is rather depressing, not enough sunbeds and full of smoke.. All in all this hotel is not what I would consider a four star more like a two/three. Horrendous experienced!

Calella Beach
Hotel in the middle of the tourist area and with a leisurely two minute stroll to the beach, is perfect for a first visit to Calella. The overall standard is perfectly fine and with a good buffet breakfast, it makes for an ideal place to call home for a week. The railway station is a brisk ten minute walk and whilst the area can be quite lively, the patio door onto the balcony did a good job of proving peace and quiet. All in, we had a good stay.

Do not be put off by poor reviews. This hotel is in a great location, right opposite to a fantastic beach, 8 minute walk to the railway station, and a few minutes from the main shopping area. There is a really good local supermarket (Consum) a few minutes away, used by locals and very reasonable. The hotel is small and not surrounded by the larger hotels. Our room was overlooking the courtyard and the balcony enjoyed the sun all afternoon and evening. The rooms are very simple yet clean. Adequate for sleeping and a well equipped bathroom. The staff were very good, they immediately sorted our air conditioner as it was not working on arrival. The price paid for August was unbelievably cheap. Hotel had a range of guests of all ages and from various locations. Not many English guests which made us feel like we were actually abroad. The lobby and restaurant area are kept to a high standard. The food at breakfast and dinner was really quite impressive. Fish and seafood on most nights, cooked freshly and plentiful. Food is constantly replenished. Breakfast catered for every need. We travel regularly and must admit that the standard of food is in our top 5. Take the train to Girona and Barcelona, great service and only £10 each.
Sant Jordi Boutique Hotel

It is with considerable disappointment that I pen this review. Our experience at SANT JORDI, a purported 5-star property, fell drastically short of our expectations and has left us questioning the credibility of its rating. Upon our late-night arrival, we were eager to unwind and revel in the luxury amenities, especially the bathtub, which was a pivotal factor in our selection of this hotel. However, the excitement quickly morphed into disillusionment when we encountered a large, unsightly brown stain on the side of the bath, resembling feces. This egregious lapse in cleanliness prompted immediate communication with the reception, an interaction we hadn’t anticipated. Our subsequent meticulous inspection of the room uncovered more shortcomings: black mold inhabited the shower area, posing a severe health and safety risk. Furthermore, the water tap, when operated, emitted a noise so intrusive that it had the potential to disrupt the slumber of other guests within proximity. These occurrences were not only inconvenient but also reprehensible, considering the supposed standing of the hotel. Our concerns, articulated at check-out, were met with assurances of a full refund for the inconveniences suffered. Despite this promise, the refund is yet to materialize, adding to our grievances. Our stay at SANT JORDI was marred by unacceptable cleanliness standards, glaring maintenance oversights, and unfulfilled promises, all incongruent with the hotel's purported stature. We left feeling deceived and distressed, far from the rejuvenating experience we sought. It's imperative for prospective guests to approach with caution and for the management to institute immediate rectifications, lest the hotel’s reputation suffers irreversible damage. Rating: ⭐☆☆☆☆
Kaktus Hotel Kaktus Playa - Adults Recommended

A short stay for of 2 days was booked with Triip.com for one adult and 2 children under 10, to join us who were booked in a day earlier for three days. Our three day booking was direct with the hotel, half board. The hotel is marked 'adults recommended' and they sure discourage children, by seeking to charge per occupancy rather than simply on a cost per room. The Trip site quite fairly offered the room at the rate for two adults, with children under 12 free, so this is what was paid. Half board was added but at the rate for two adults, which would be greater than the actual hotel rate for one adult and two children, but I was happy to have reserved restaurant secured. Things got messy at check in, the hotel insisting that the room was occupied by three 'persons' as they put it and should therefore be 50% extra, though the room was the same type as the twin we had for two adults. The Hotel also insisted that only breakfast was provided, and tried to argue that the B2B rate from the third party (Trip) was insufficient. I politely pointed out that the discounts provided to third party agents was no concern of the customer, and referred to my booking voucher which clearly stated I had booked a twin room, into which was going 1 adult, two very small children, and that breakfast and dinner was paid for, with the rate for 1 adult being greater than twice the local charge for a child. They were impossible to deal with, and I left the reception angry and upset. I contacted the Trip representative and by that evening it was sorted. Full marks to Trip, zero to the hotel. As for our stay, the hotel is excellent, but with room to improve. Dinner in the Buffet only commences at 8.00, resulting in quite the bunfight if the restaurant is busy. It was on that Thursday, a national holiday, and it was impossible to order wine and beverages after we seated, with a single service person taking orders. We ate our food dry, and finally placed an order for wine and water while eating dessert, some 40 minutes after seating. The same bottleneck occurred the next morning at breakfast, with the four snail paced Nespresso machines totally incapable of dealing with the coffee demands. Worse, all 4 machines overheated and went into 'service mode'. Worse again, these obviously unsuitable barista machines were the only source of hot water for Tea or infusions, but with no seperate hot water dispenser faucet. You had to stand for almost 2 minutes while the machine slowly dispensed through the coffee outlet, a single mug of hot water, to the frustration of the queue behind. This needs sorting, it took ages to get a breakfast beverage every morning, and on the second day I had to return 4 floors to my room and fill my cup from the in room Nespresso maker. I'd advise to bring a travel kettle with you. Otherwise, a fine hotel, but the restaurant problems and discriminatory pricing for children are an issue, so not a hotel for children.
Hotel Haromar

We spent a week at the Haromar and it was great. All staff we met from the front desk, barman to cleaners were all friendly. As it was a 'budget' hotel we did not know what to expect, but we really enjoyed our stay there and will definitely book again if we visit that area again. The breakfast was ample (though the plates are a little small). Great selection of fruit, bread, cereal, toast, cheese, cooked and cold food available as well as tea, coffee and juice. Room was clean and tidy and towels and toiletries were changed daily. Only one electrical socket in the room though, but we knew about this from other reviews so took a small extension lead, no kettle either but again we knew about that from other reviews so took a small kettle with us. Our room overlooked the hotel next door that is having building work done, so not the best view to look out too lol, but there was little/no noise from the hotel when workmen were active. No plug for the bath, but I prefer showers anyway. You need to leave a deposit for the tv remote, we didnt want to watch tv so that didnt bother us. Beach is directly over the road so only a 2 minute walk away, shops within a 5 minute walk and a restaurant on the corner. The center is only about a 10 minute walk away with some great pubs and restaurants.....All in all a good budget hotel that I would gladly stay at again.
